New Tool Instantly Damaged - Avoid This! | DeWalt DCN660 Jammed

I'm giving myself a big facepalm on this stupid mistake, can't even believe I managed to pull this off. Got my brand new DeWalt DCN660 jammed the first time I fired it. I need to start reading the manuals.
So anyway: I needed a second nail gun, or a brad nailer, to do some fine trim work in the guest house. I already have the DCN692 ( • Dewalt DCN692 Review -... ), which is awesome! But it's not suited for finishing work since it's a framing nailer. So I got this DCN660, the tool only since it's cheaper and I already have the battery. Man, I love cordless power tools.
This 16 gauge nail gun/brad nailer should work just fine. As long as I can get the proper nail. These were difficult to load and gave me an instant jam when firing the first time. This, in turn, leads to getting the nails removed and trying to repair the problems they caused. Oh well.
Not much of a review, but hopefully, I can get you a proper review when I get the correct nails ;)
Here's the tool in the video (DeWalt DCN660): amzn.to/3LDPudx

I too am an idiot, who was trying to learn how to load this nailer, and you saved me the headache you had. Buying the experience of someone else is priceless, thank u.

I just did the same thing with a rented tool (associate even pointed me to the wrong nails) and I was sweating bullets trying to figure out how to get it out. Thank you for this video!!!

Kind of their own fault though, if they got you the wrong nails 😅

Wow the suspense nearly got me! I was watching every detail so carefully (I thought) and I didn’t pick it. Glad no permanent damage has been done. Super keen for another quick update of the guest house. When you have time. 👍

Just a heads up but there is one spare tip stored on the nailer. Near the switch is another rubber tip.

Wish I would have seen this earlier! Did the same thing. Was unable to get the angled nails in store... guess ill have to order some, did the nail gun perform well after the damage?

Aw, sorry to hear that! Luckily, it didn't seem to have any effect on the tool at all, works like a charm 🙂

I could have, but I just didn't bother, it's still working as intended, just some minor cosmetic damage :)

This explains lots of bad reviews on home depot website for this gun with pictures of the nail coming out from plastic magazine instead. I suspected that they used straight instead of angled nails to have that happen but this confirms that those people were just either not reading manual properly if at all or just lazy idiots who think they already know more/enough and then blamed manufacturer on their errors which is even worse IMO. For an experienced contractor it should be more obvious that straight won't work since firing pin/tip always shoots out straight so if magazine is positioned at angle it should also click that nails should be also at angle, it's been like that since Paslode guns were a thing that also had straight and angled options as well (angled coming out slightly later than straight). Worse thing is that people claim they did "everything right" and gun jammed on "the first nail" that should have been a good giveaway for them though.

If you can't work out that this needs angled nail then maybe you shouldn't be anywhere near a nailer in the first place? Going to get yourself or someone else hurt!!
@TryingToBuildStuff
@TryingToBuildStuff Год назад
Hehe, I agree, but I did get the nails handed to me in the same store I bought the nail gun in, so I didn't think twice about it. Thought it was a bit strange with straight nails since my other nailgun has angled ones. Well, I learned to double check what ppl hand me at least ;)
