New Tormek Self Centering Knife Jigs

I was surprised by the design of the new KJ knife jigs. I had long expected Tormek to introduce self centering knife jigs. I had expected a more sophisticated jig at a much higher cost. The new KJ design is very clever. It is easy to use and gets the job done at a very reasonable cost. The lower bar support seems adequate for occasional use with cleavers, although, for more frequent use with both wider and longer knives, the US-430 support bar is the ideal choice. I believe that once we become fluent with the new KJ-45, it will become the preferred choice. We will have to modify our set up technique slightly, a small inconvenience for automatic self centering and tapered blade clamping.

Well done video. One minor point: At 2:30, the comment about "standard thickness knives" should be 2 to 3mm instead of 3 to 5mm. 3 to 5mm thick knives should be sharpened with a self centering jig.

When using do you change wheels for different grits etc ?

Nice improvement 👍 . I do not think I will buy 1 as a small degree difference in sides is not critical imho . I would get this if buying a new unit . I have had my unit since 2005 and very pleased . I have bought the Wen versions with the jigs and they are plenty good enough 👍

Would you recommend these to replace the originals?

You couldn’t demo them because they don’t work. The extra nubs for the wider knives will hit the vertical bar when moving to the left while sharpening.
