The match i had the most fun on dbd period was as knight against a really good and autruistic 4 people swf. Almost looked like a 4 v 4 match, both me and the survivors had so much fun during that match

You can't order a guard to damage a generator if you get too close to it with the orb.

I have played rpd about 4 times recently as knight and always get 2-3 kills and the games last soooo long. The detection and chase is somehow worse in doors tho the gen counter seems to be the only thing slightly working. And even then like you said, the too close patrol glitch is annoying af.

Another little thing they could maybe add is like an interaction button that automatically spawns your current guard to destroy a pallet or damage a gen or something like that. It feels really clunky to have to walk back a few steps to use your power for stuff like that

I feel like that would remove the whole insta-break-pallets-with-the-fatty-guard mind game that the Knight has right now, which would reduce his skill ceiling and take away some of the counterplay survivors have.

A really easy buff the devs can implement on the Knight that can hopefully balance him out and minimize his issues is to give him the Moonlight Greatsword.

Finally someone mentions this! Even tho the knight had so many issues, the most egregious one (as a knight player) is the one about the minimum distance you need to be away from an object in order to use your power. It makes it so clunky and wastes precious seconds all the time, and it’s really strangely that he’s the only one that has this issue, not pinhead or nurse who use something Similar for their power

I imagine that's because you're essentially physically travelling the entire distance with Knight, whereas Pinhead and Nurse are setting something like a "teleportation waypoint" ahead of them. The game doesn't care about the line between the player and the waypoint for those characters, but the devs wanted the guards to walk a path, so they decided to make you plot that path for them.

@@irregularassassin6380 Yup rather than adding some nice QOL to the knights power, they just slapped a bunch of limitations on it. Y'know that awkward floating towards the target before starting the chase? Thats to make sure the guard can always reach the target, rather than coding in some actual reliable LOS and area detection.

As a Knight main, my biggest problem with him is the stun out of power and the GIGANTIC space needed to use his power, especially if you are trying to use carnifex on a pallet mid chase.

All they need is to make it so you can press Ctrl to immediately have a guard start destroying whatever is highlighted without needing to path. It highlights things even when you can't send a guard out, it makes me think that must have been an idea at some point.

Oh my goodness, that space needed to summon a guard is what drives me up the wall the most. I absolutely love the sound design and the tone the knight’s gameplay has. Like he feels and sounds imposing, the guards give a haunted battlefield vibe, but his clunk makes me so sad, because I want to love him.

Also, there's another bug on Knight that prevents guards from hearing loud action noises from behind walls And that is painful on some indoor maps and even the outdoors ones

@@LittleKnight485 it’s not even that it was fun, it’s just that it seemed necessary for knight to be able to use his power effectively. There have been many times where if it had been working that it would have saved me a gen or stopped a heal or something similar.

@@Faputa-Sosu exactly For example Badham, normally I would put a guard on top of the school and as soon they did something loud they would be dead, now I feel weak, I can't even pressure the hook by placing a guard behind the wall

Orb issues are going to need a complete recode by the looks of it. From what I'm gathering here, the orb is simply your character 'teleporting' a bit in front of your existing model. So to place, you need enough space in front of you to put another copy of yourself down, and that can't overlap with any existing terrain (I imagine this shares the same code as Twins for Victor ejecting from Charlotte). This also explains why the orb can be pallet stunned. I find this fascinating from a coding standpoint - Can you be flashlight blinded while piloting the orb too? Does the Cenobyte Chain have the same issues? Do perks that improve your movement speed also impact you while piloting the orb?

^exactly this. When the knight came out, perks like Make your Choice or Hex:Devour Hope which only work if the killer has a certain distance to a survivor on a hook were abused because the game considers the orb to be the player, while the model that stays behind is useless. Bhvr "fixed" these perks by adding more exceptions. In reality the entire orb code needs to be refactored.

I really wish they would polish this power because it sincerely irks me that the actual Knight teleports to the end of the path. It looks so sloppy to me. I'm pretty sure that they just copied over Spirit's code to make Knight's power.

Playing as and against The Knight, I don't know why they don't have the guards speed up the longer the survivor doesn't go for the Banner. I also think they should be despawned by a pallet stun. I think this would be way less frustrating for the killer and the survivors.

i think the speed is okish...the detection radius is a bigger issue, and the biggest of issue is how clunky the power itself itself is to use, those awkard minimum distances from objects, knight getting stunned by proxi, etc

I used to play a lot of knight. But every knight player knew that MFT would break the knight. That 3% may not sound much against a killer holding W but that 3% is actually faster than the guards making any guard that isn't an assassin useless even if the knight spawned on top of you. 😢 You had to really really love knight to keep playing knight since now we know it's the second most ran perk in the game.

All the guards were already useless unless the knight was also there chasing with them to zone into a hit. Even in best case scenario (assassin vs a survivor without mft) it takes 18.75 seconds for the guard to catch up and get a hit if the survivor just holds w. 4x - 4.4x + 7.5 is the calculation, given the absolute minimum distance a survivor can make against a guard.

[4:54] I despise not being able to use your power next to a wall. I understand it’s something you just get used to but it still sucks when you’re looking for a spot where you can actually summon while the survivor’s just staring at you. I don’t mind playing a weak killer if they’re not clunky to play. I want the devs to give this guy some love so bad man.

I'm really happy that you pointed out all of these issues with the Knight. I really like this killer and i wish he receives some attentions from the devs. I've made a topic in the DBD foruns suggesting some changes to the Knight. One thing that could really help in that situations where you need to kick a pallet/gen with your power would be giving a secondary power to the Knight so he could give orders to his guards without entering patrol mode. This would be a quality of life/buff for the Knight that would make him so much more enjoyable to play.

Something that I've experienced relating to the guard deployment is that deploying a guard prevents you from doing so in the same spot. If you send out a guard and do not move or touch your mouse, once the patrol ends you don't seem to have the ability to deploy a guard again in the exact same spot. I've tried moving a little and coming back and I still couldn't deploy a guard in the same spot, but I've not tested this in-depth any further than that. It's possible that deploying a guard drops something invisible on the map that blocks the Knight from deploying another one in the same space - I assume accidentally because it doesn't make any sense.

I wish his knights had more versatility like how his carnifex can insta break pallets and deal more damage to gens, like what if the assassin didn’t alert you in chase but only made the sound like victor does when he’s nearby or the jailer could give you incapacitated or something when you get hit or heal or mend or something that represents them more than just, “oh he’s faster, he chases longer, he does orders faster, etc…”

A silent assasin would be amazing. Would also be down with a jailer that moves faster when gens are turned on, and insta downs when gates are opened. Honestly, I wish Jailer wasn't a part of the rotation at all. Wish he automatically walked back and forth between the two gates whenever a gen was completed, allowing you to potentially have 2 summons at once. Would also be cool if Carnifex was taken out as well, and only showed up on the other side of the map after you landed a hook. With these concepts, the knight could have 3 summons at once and not be able to 3 gen, especially if the assassin had a long cooldown.

Hey Otz, glad to see this video, as I've been having some issues with Knight myself. Something I've noticed recently while playing Knight is that you can actually be too close to a generator when trying to break it with a guard. I've been constantly losing time in a match while trying to quickly have a guard break a generator only to have to move the guard into a specific distance to actually have the break prompt show up, where previously as long as you were in a certain distance to a generator you could break it. This seems to only currently apply to breaking generators and not pallets/doors. I've also noticed that event objects seem to collide with Knight's power. You can't activate your power too close to a void portal as it seems to have some sort of collision with the power as if you were trying to activate your power close to a wall/tile. As well as this, desummoning a guard with an M1 swing has been inconsistent and sometimes simply doesn't work. My feedback would be to shorten the area around the Knight to allow him to more freely use his power in tiles, as this would also allow him to break gens and pallets in chase in a more streamlined fashion. It might be much, but giving Knight a command prompt when close to a gen/pallet/wall to instantly summon a guard to damage the item without having to fully go into the summon and patrol mode would add a nice bit of pace to using his power as well, removing the need to step back into a spacious enough area to actually use his power to break something. As for the issues with MFT, I think both the Carnifex and Jailer could receive an increase in speed to 103.5%, making them still faster than a MFT survivor while also keeping the speed increase small to not make guards oppressive to regular speed survivors. Giving the Knight the ability to stop the patrol from a distance by reactivating the power could alleviate the issue of guards not correctly desummoning with an M1, and would add a more streamlined feeling to his kit by not forcing you to be without your power for longer periods of time.

another really strong knight tip is you can use that elevation trick to actually place guards on small rocks, like the ones found at macmillan loops. It's kinda finicky to do, but VERY impactful. Also, as a knight main, these changes are clearly bandaids of a rushed development team. Rather than giving a team the time they needed to fix bugs with placing guards, they just slapped a band-aid check on it

The worst part is, we know from the Twisted Masquerade event that they can code it so that the pallet just breaks. The same thing you did with the invitation could be doable with a guard.

There is a minimum distance required in front AND behind you to be able to summon a guard, it's really finicky.

I really love the concept and character of the Knight and mained him for a bit but recently I have kind of sworn him off because his guards just feel so slow and inconsistent. The one thing that I really hate that you haven’t mentioned is the fact you still can’t cancel a guard if you aren’t within swing distance (and even then it doesn’t work half the time) so a simple way to reclaim guards from a distance and maybe even when they’re in hunt would be much appreciated.

I dont know other issues, but i would like that guard could see survivors auras revealed by my perks, since it could allow some fun plays, since i love when guards go through walls, or floors, because of notifications

I’m honestly surprised Otz didn’t mention the fact the guards can actually GET STUCK on objects while starting a hunt/being in the middle of a hunt. I’ve had this happen to me once on Nostromo Wreckage in the main building near a pallet and another time on a small fence post at the top of a tiny staircase on Sanctum of Wrath. This allows survivors to just run away easily while the Knight is forced to wait out the guard running while stuck in place; that is hella frustrating.

Press CTRL to order a guard break would be so nice for quality of life, even make it take the same amount of time as a regular summon, but it would bypass the weird distance requirement (and could give a sick knight animation of pointing to a breakable as an order)

I loved his design a lot so I got him he's literally so cool but my issue with his is that his ghosts are really dumb and slow compared to most survivors I'm against and for some reason they can barely detect anyone

Another trick that can be nasty is insta-hitting survivors above you. For whatever reason, gaurds will basically blink on top of survivors above them when they start the chase, which can really catch people off guard.

The amount of times I've been hit by that is insane. There's no reaction time at all sometimes and yet when I use him they like to casually float up or down instead of hitting them with the same BS move they pull on me.

Call to Arms could be basekit too. Or just extend the patrol path. Sending a longer patrol path shouldn’t really be capped, sending a guard further out allows the knight to create map pressure and the surv counterplay is almost easier cuz without the knight there to pressure they can just grab the flag but for the knight it can still be useful to force someone off a gen or just for information

A little change that could help the guard detection. Make the ring expand faster and have it be double the radius which then gets smaller over time

4:54 This issue has also become worse when in the ethereal/setting trail form and trying to register breaking/regressing a gen with your guard. Now if you get to close to a gen in this ethereal form it will not let you trigger the gen. You used to be able to be able to run into the gen actually touching it will your camera and register the regression. Now if you get to close it wont let you start the regression. What makes it even worse is there is no reverse in this ethereal mode, so you need to spin away from the gen, make distance, then turn back and trigger the gen. Sometimes you get to close again and are no longer able to trigger the gen again. When this change was made I'm not sure, but it's definitely more finicky and it's driving me up a wall.

Similarly to the drop effect for the guards, you can raise your guards above certain objects if you are the right distance away from it. Examples of such would be rock pallets and car loops, you can put the guards on top of cars and rocks to catch survivors off guard, though it is tricky to do.

Btw the summoning not only depends on the space in front of you but also the previous summoning spots... So you cant summon twice in the same spot (0.3m radius approx.)

One bug that one knight main found is amazing, it bypass elevation/walls. If you walk up(with prompt still up!) next to wall that have edge to or below your eyes level you can place guard on top! Like in larys chairs wall next to exit gate. That makes them able to see over wall so they can chase people.

As the detection circle expands with a known speed, I would love it if the visible circle was rendered by the surviour, not the killer/server, so that it would better detect you when the circle actually reaches you, not when its a half meter behind your heels. The actual dection of the survivour by the guards would still be performed by the server/killer client.

i have no idea how balanced it would be but i think adding an effect for the knights power that lets you just immediately assign the current guard to a interactable object with the secondary power button (since it isn't currently used) if you are close enough to the aura around an interactable object would be a massive quality of life buff, and i think a way to fix the dependence on the map of the realm would be to buff the speed at which the guards detection range expands, but that would probably just make the map even more powerful unless you did something like halved the range it gives

Thank you so much Otz! I've been a knight main for so long and all of these issues were never truly addressed! I would like to add there is a bug at the moment as well where you cant use your guard to kick a gen unless its aligned "perfectly" in front of it, as well as another issue where sometimes guards will just decide to run in place during a hunt!

Thank you Otz for trying to improve the game yourself. Truly the most wholesome and cool RU-vidr out there. As a Knight main, it's so painful to bit be able to place a guard and it has lost me many games and I wish he was better. Maybe this will make the devs fix him.

I wish that when summoning a guard, that the orb started under your character instead of in front of your character, similar to Demo as you said. If anything just make guards able to be walked through while they on patrol.

I don't know how good of an idea it is, but they could also spawn a guard at the nearest available open coordinate, preferring spaces in your field of view. That may lead to exploits though, which is likely why the placement is so miserly - some concern about placing them through walls, OoB or across vertical planes. Maybe Kovacs should talk to Carmina about the art of directing The Help.

I think you’ve covered most of his bugs pretty well. Other things I’d consider is that number one: Jailor feels pretty useless compared to the other two guards and number two: obviously his add-on situation is really rough but you’ve already addressed this

Jailor feels he exists solely because they couldn’t think up a third niche besides “runs faster” and “smacks faster” so they just went “uhhhh, runs more” as if that’s anywhere near as useful as Durkos or Sander.

A simple buff to the knight could be the ability to recall the guards with the Ctrl key instead of having to run to the guard and smacking it in the face, maybe if a guard doesn't detect someone by the time the flag activates you get the prompt to recall it? Something along those lines would be nice

So I play a lot of chase Knight and I think the biggest problem is that I always have to either predict a window vault or listen to injuries to find where the survivors are going because at max distance the guard still does not deploy fast enough. My idea for a fix is that while in chase when you deploy guards at a long distance the detection range is similar to the one with the map add on then the radius would decrease to normal so that it is easier to land chase guards while still not making patrols too powerful. I don’t really know what they can do about MFT but I have noticed it and I am getting way less guard hits in general. The part where you can’t summon guards around terrain is my second least favorite mechanic because as soon as a survivor drops a pallet your power can basically just be turned off till you backpedal to use it making the carnifex much worse The other problems with bugs I’m not as bothered by I think they should be fixed but it’s not making me throw my mouse out the window like the problems listed above.

Look closer. The icon is the Assassin, but the second he tries to use it, all it does it fizzle out and swap over to the Jailer's icon during cooldown.

It needs to be done patrolling first, and then he can place his next guard (the jailor in this case). But still even though this is not a correct example, the knight is soooo buggy like in the next clip. We all know what otz means haha.

I haven’t played DBD in a couple of years so I don’t know the new killers so well, but it’s a shame that knight players have to deal with these clunky gameplay issues :( His concept is quite cool, so hopefully they’ll make some quality of life changes soon. On another note, thanks for announcing the long form videos Otz! They can be easy to miss sometimes when they don’t show up in my feed, so its good to know to keep an eye out for them. I started watching your Lies of P play through on Twitch, but RU-vid is a lot less finicky so it’ll be nice to finish it here. It’s going to be a great week with these multiple hours of Otz content, and I’m excited for the new game + more Darkest Dungeons :D

as a p100 knight main, i agree fully with everything youve said! tysm for making this video, really bringing awareness to the knight's deep mechanics and problems! another bug with the knight rn is that sometimes you will not see the prompt to kick gens with guards at all, and also, loud noise notifications within a guard's range will no longer alert a guard, which it used to before the update.

I love this killer but I've always felt like the knight should be able to order a guard to damage a generator or break a pallet or door without having to enter his power he doesnt use the secondary power button so they could just slap it on that. Its a tiny thing that wouldnt save a whole lot of time but It would feel nice

This. The weird distance buffer needed to summon guards for breaking actions is really annoying, considering the game is coded to snap entities to the "interact" position anyway. The buffer just serves to make an already clunky design even clunkier.

As a Knight main, I've actually haven't used Map of the Realm since the beginning of the Haunted by Daylight event began. And I have no problems with catching up with Survivors. The yellow add on Call To Arms helps increase your speed and the iridescent banner allows the guards to vault.

The tip where you can get the guards to move down elevations also works in reverse if you can hug a wall (more specifically a small wall tile of some sort) you can sometimes get your guard on top of the loop sometimes guaranteeing a hunt on a survivor who is looping around the tile

Specifically on Dead Dawg Saloon, summoning guards will often get stuck under the outside stairs of the main building. Sometimes you can't even hit them to reset your power, you just have to wait until they despawn naturally.

The biggest quality of life change would be to have a "secondary power" button to break objects. This button would show up whenever you are in breaking/kicking range of an object and would let you auto summon the next guard to break/kick that object without having to clunkily walk backwards, find enough space, activate power, move forward, click to break

Knight is a killer that got a lot of hate because of when he was released, during the horrible gen kick meta, but now i think hes alright (minus his AI being very oof) i really like just using the sniper knight build with surveillance cause its fun & the juggling of which guard does what. I know hes not exciting or ""fun"" to go against but i don't think he's nearly as problematic as some people say.

You know he's a bad killer when even in a defence for him you still need to admit he's not 'exciting of fun'. He's just super unhealthy for the game, letting killers win chases with no effort and with very mindless counterplay. His problems are pretty parallel to the Artist.

I think a quality of life help for knight is to show us his guards spawn box just make it a ghostly outline on the ground kinda like doctors shock range indicator add-on (Maple knight) and maybe when it's running into something dum that part of the box becomes red and maybe a yellow color In between when your getting close but still good to summon one.

Something I've started doing a lot with the knight on basement or indoor maps is that if I know someone is going to rescue someone from a hook, I leave a guard nearby but out of direct sight so that when the noise notification sounds, the guard initiates the hunt and almost always hits.

I seen a knight main showcase recently that if you pre drop a pallet when being chased it will go around the pallet and not through it but if you drop it when the guards close I believe it still goes through.

I think the faster expansion of the detection circle given by map of the realm should be basekit, so the addon only increases the radius, not the speed at which it spreads outwards.

It's been a few months since I played DBD, but I remember that, when the orb teleports the knight, the aura vision perks (like nurse's calling) still work and allow you to see auras for a few moments. A kind of remote information gathering.

there are certain tiles where you can summon a guard on top of, such as the car on gas haven, you can rub against it with your orb while summoning and it will phase on top of the car, there’s many other objects this works on.. there is a knight player named sixelis that has a good video showing it.

As a Knight enjoyer, thank you very much for this video. I really like playing him since the buff of his power, that's how I always wanted to play him. Some aura reading/info perks and I sent the orb (with the addon that extend the duration of the power) and catch survivors really far away and then the guard is really fast and stuff. It's really fun like this

I would love if the knight had a secondary power option where he would slow or stop for a second to automatically send a guard to break a pallet or gen. That way you don’t have to awkwardly go right in and out of your power to do those actions. While avoiding the “too close to object to use power” issue.

I agree with making the initial detection bigger when you first summon, when I play the knight there is a lot of times when I send a guard and it feels like that guard is directly on top of them but somehow there is no detection, so I just wasted a load of time doing my power when I could have simply held w. M1’ing the guard to stop a patrol is a nice feature however if I’m mid chase it feels like I would have to go out of my way to stop it which means the survivor gets a lot of distance, on the other hand if I don’t cancel it early, I am without a power for a long time. i feel like it would be simple to press a button to cancel it without going out of your way to have a power agian. I.E. (just pressing right click agian mid patrol to end it early) Thank you for the video OTZ and the consideration of opinions from your fans.

with in the very small portion of the knight appearing after sending out a guard in this split second you can have the reaction window of actually grabbing survivors from gens

Knight is currently bugged during the Halloween event and sometimes can't kick gens with guards if you get too close to them. This seems to mainly happen on indoor maps and two-story buildings but I don't know what causes it it's super inconsistent. It's really killed my desire to play this Killer during the Halloween event which is a shame b/c he just got the cool Halloween cosmetic.

I wish that when the green outline around a pallet/wall/gen showed up I could use "secondary ability button" to directly spawn a guard to break it WITH A DELAY, I feel like it would be such a gigantic quality of life improvement but without an extra delay I think double carnifex would be a bit too powerful also mft makes running fearmonger almost necessary 💀

An issue happened with me playing Knight after the latest update where I couldn't damage generators with the guards anymore. I'd also get stuck/magnetized to the gens while using my power. I think it's time I retire him from my killer roster until they can improve him.

I believe we discussed these, but anyway. 1. *IRI BANNER IS STILL BUGGED* The issue persists since the release of Singularity, basically almost half a year. Guards don’t prevent survivors from escaping in the exit gates - which they should do with this thing. 2. *Knight’s Guards trigger ultimate weapon* Although a former Knight main, I really hate this one. Due to Knight’s awesome coding - when he places a guard, he technically teleports there, and technically his terror radius does as well. You can’t hear the radius, nor can you see it with visual terror radius - but it’s there, it procs ultimate weapon and can be combined with dead man’s switch.

Something I’ve noticed Recently is the when I’m trying to get a guard to kick a gen or break a pallet, if I get too close to the object the prompt for the order doesn’t appear and I have to waste time either adjusting my approach to get to work or just cut my losses and have it patrol instead

The Knight himself will Block guard detection, so if your between a guard and survivor, you block line of sight.

Hey Otz, I've been using Knock Out, and slugging perks with great success. Winning games with 0 hooks, with so many survivor perks with effects tied to unhooking this strat has been working very well for me.

The summon guard thing is similar to summoning Victor as Twins, in most cases you need the like 1.5x the size of the killers hitbox worth of space to summon since it places the guard/Victor in front of you.

I absolutely love the Knight and I’ve been maining him since he came out but recently I’ve also noticed that when it comes to breaking pallets and generators they became really inconsistent even when the gen is out in the open I sometimes have to move the orb around just to get my guard to damage it which gets extremely annoying extremely quick

I think other than what you've already said, guards would benefit from standing still until their detection bubble has reached max range so they don't walk away from the survivor you sent them to attack before detecting them. Also having it expand faster to keep that change from feeling clunky

Any changes I would like to see in the knight in the future 1 - Bhr was concerned about the knight using his power over long distances, but over short distances like in a chase I see a very big problem, the knight takes too long to enter and exit his power (only enter if the case involves kicking something ). I believe it would be more interesting if he had more agility when using his power so as not to give the survivor a very safe escape route. 2 - Give the knight more responsiveness to his power, such as allowing him to call a guard that chases him back to prevent players from blocking him from using his power. 3 - Make sure the knight doesn't have to stop completely to use his power on something other than finding a survivor, things like kick actions are a waste of time for a character like the knight and having to stay still to cast a guard Doing so is something I see as unnecessary. The pallet thing reminds me of the time where knight got a speed boost from summing the guard the moment he got stun and then you have the same movement speed of the green thing which is fast But they took that out

I mainly play Knight and one trick to bypass obstacles or send guards upwards (like to the main building gen on Mother's Dwelling) is that you can actually send them on top of obstacles, although it's really flimsy to be fair. It works best on slanted rocks or smth but should even work on vaults. If you're close enough, they even stay on top of the rock but even if not it's like summoning a lighthouse survivors can't escape. If you apply this to the Mother's Dwelling main gen, you can send them on the rock you can stand on and basically send them upstairs into main building

Fun fact the fact that Knight appears at the place of the orb this includss your terror radious so if you run perks like Ultimate Weapon you can check real quick if there're survivors near the placemente of the guard

Knight's guards can detect survivors on different elevations and will detect anyone if there is a pixel hole. When a survivor is detected on a different floor the guards will actually float up and start the chase from there, this is super useful on maps like Red Forest or Dead Dawg Saloon to fend off survivors from gens and zone them out to a much dangerous tiles, ignoring guards will otherwise make survivors take unnecessary hit as if you are playing a Huntress, which is really nasty

knight has this cool trick that turns him into the nurse if you send out a guard ti smash a gen or pallet or get close to the window the prompt for the Kight itself will appear and you can hit that prompt and teleport over idk if this was patched but i used it alot in the past
