New Trike!!

There are lights above and below eye level. Also, Many Cessnas and other high wing aircraft have landing lights above eye level. They are also not called "headlights". And finally, this is a "Light Sport" aircraft, being flown under "Sport Pilot" rules, and therefore is not allowed to be flown in fog, OR at night. let alone both. But thanks for your opinion.

@@symcardnel1741 On your first comment, my previous reply was basically this: I didn't have much in the way of ground school, since I already had alot of previous training and ratings. Most ground school is spent learning weather and regulations, which I pretty much already had. I'm and instrument rated commercial Helicopter pilot as well as these trikes and other flying toys haha! As far as cost for training, i think it was somewhere in the ballpark for $2500 or so... As for the second statement I think it was you that asked this on my tailwheel training video. Here was the answer I posted there if you haven't seen it yet: Nope. I’ve flown a variety of aircraft tapes over my years flying. My channel doesn’t reflect it but I spent years training as a commercial helicopter pilot doing instrument training and other advanced ratings. This was all before my RU-vid channel really existed. It’s winter here. I won’t be able to fly it really until at least late March. I’ve also had a Cherokee 180 for 15 years and needed to try something new for my fixed wing flying. I did my tail wheel training, and then decided to sell the Cherokee and get a Cub, which has always been a dream airplane for me. Unfortunately I can’t really fly the trike in the winter time, as I live in Connecticut. I needed something that could be flown during the winter time. I may sell the trike in the future, but have not remotely decided to do that yet. One of the main benefits of the Cub I bought... (a legend cub) is that it has big opening doors on both sides. I can open it up in the summertime and get a very very similar experience to the trike, but I can still close it up and put the heat on in the winter. My trike is wide open, with no fairings at all to protect you from the freezing wind. to fly it at anything lower than 40° you have to dress up like an astronaut. There will be more trike videos this summer!! And cub videos too!

I’ve been flying a Cherokee 180 for about 14 years now, and to be honest, as grateful as I am to have that amazing opportunity, it can still be a little bland after so many years. A lot like driving a car. As a teenager you can’t wait to start driving, but after a decade, you start looking at sports cars, motorcycles, maybe a Polaris Dune buggy, just something to make the driving experience more fun and interesting. That’s what the Trike did for me when it came to flying. As a kid I learned about the Quicksilver MX Ultralight, and my whole life I wanted to fly one. Open air, low and slow. Real stick and rudder visceral flying. But because they are slow I wanted something more portable. I live in Connecticut, but if I want to go flying in Utah, I’m not going to fly an ultralight all the way to Utah. Quicksilver’s aren’t exactly trailerable. I decided to go ultraportable, and learned to fly PPG. It didn’t take long before I realized I did not want to use my legs as landing gear. I finally settled on the trike, because of its portability, and wheels to land on. It can be folded up relatively easy and put into a trailer. I chose this pacific trike, the Evolution Trikes REVOLT, for its performance, stadium seating, and load carrying capability. Thanks for stopping by to check out my videos. @@AV8R_1 Thanks for the response, it does seem like a lovely machine to fly in. If I were to get a trike it'd definitely be the EVO brand. You can tell just by looking at it that it's well engineered.

Hi and congrats on solo. I'm in about 17 hours with trike training and having trouble with landings. I like to get input from other students about what they think about, look at and judge landing timing. Any advice?

A lot of this is very dependent on exactly which options you choose when you order one. The main options which would effect the things you mention are the wing, the engine model, the propeller, and the weight of the passengers you are flying. This particular aircraft as equipped has a speed range of 40-80 miles per hour and the distance you can cover, or flight range, would be entirely dependent on how fast you fly. This effects how much fuel you consume over a given time and distance. In the 40-80 mph speed range you can burn as little as 3.5 gallons per hour up to 6 gallons per hour. When I fly low, it’s the same thing that’s kept me alive riding motorcycles for almost 30 years. Pay attention, know your limits and the limits of your machine, enjoy yourself but always expect something to go wrong exactly when you don’t want to, keep your eyes open, and your head on a swivel!! My biggest fear when I’m down low is birds.

This one is one of the most expensive ones unfortunately. Very well equipped. But there are definitely less expensive options that will get you in the air safely!

vracan winter here is like 8 months. Pretty much from October to May you can’t fly Unless you want to dress like an astronaut. So effectively 3/4 of the year you park it in the hangar and wait for spring. I didn’t think it would be a big deal, but as often happens, reality doesn’t always live up to your expectations. Lol.

@@AV8R_1 thanks for the info ! hmmm the climate is same here in Canada, so I guess I'd have to think about that fact that I would have waste 7-8 month hangar fees of dead time

I could offer better advice if I knew more about what is giving you trouble on your landings, but start with this: Don't look over your toes. Look all the way down the runway. You will be tempted to look at the runway right in front of you. This will cause you to round out too high or flare early. Both are bad. Try it and get back to me!

If you were going to do an add on to the PPL, its a minimum of 20 hours dual instruction like any other add-on such as Rotorcraft Helicopter etc. I only did a Sport Pilot endorsement, which is just a sign off like a flight review, and no minimum dual instruction required, but ONLY because I have a PPL.. with no ratings at all, the Sport pilot training has minimums I think.

-AV8R- Thanks! I probably have too many questions, but I’ll try to keep it to my most important ones. For starters, what is your overall impression of the Revolt - both likes and dislikes? Also, what technical issues have you had to address or work through?

@@carmendonofrio4594 Seriously ask as much as you want. My channel isn't big enough for me to start ignoring subscribers yet! LOL! To answer your first question, My impression of the REVOLT is that it is flat out AWESOME! The performance with the 14m Rival X and 100hp 912ULS with the 6 blade e-prop is outstanding! It takes off and lands really short and easily climbs really steep even when loaded up with fat butts. The prop is super smooth! Its easy to fly and land, and is super stable in flight. I also have electric roll and speed trim, so you can trim it to fly completely hands off on a smooth day. The only thing I don't like about it has little to do with the Aircraft, but everything to do with where I live and my previous flying experience. I live in New England, so I can really only fly it about 4 months out of the year without dressing up like an astronaut. This is a fully open trike, with no fairing to hide your legs behind, so below 40°F its unpleasant. Even in the warmer months you can really only fly it early in the morning or in the hour or two before sunset. The trike is really light with a massive wing area, so the light loading makes thermals a roller coaster ride. As for my flying experience, Ive spent almost two decades flying stick and rudder, so the thermals and wind move the aircraft in ways that feel unnatural to me, so I get really nervous in bumpy air. In normal airplanes and helicopters the whole aircraft moves with you but in trikes the wing moves with the bumps and the seat follows. I'm still trying to get used to that. - As for technical issues, I haven't run into anything. The only defect in manufacturing I found was a missing ground wire on the 12 volt auxiliary power outlet, which was easily fixed. The oil is easy to change and I haven't had any major maintenance worries yet. Its still really new though. All in all the Rotax 912ULS is a fantastic engine mated to an extremely well built and stout trike carriage with the Revolt, and I haven't had ANY issues with it whatsoever as of yet. Keep in mind though, I have only just over 50 hours on it. (Like I said, there's limited times I can fly it.)

This wing is designed specifically for this Trike, and the Evolution Trikes "Revo" It does not work with other trikes. It is made by Northwing. I believe its about $12,000 USD.

It has a maximum take-off weight of 1160 lbs. My Revolt, includes almost every option available including the 100 hp Rotax and the six blade prop. It only weighs 633 lbs total!! Less than many motorcycles! That leaves 527 lbs for people and fuel. The fuel capacity is 19 gallons so that weighs 114 lbs, leaving 413 lbs for people with full fuel. The front seat is rated for 250 pounds, and the passenger seat is rated for 300 pounds. Obviously you can’t do this with full fuel without being over gross weight, but I can tell you it would fly very easily if you did happen to load it that way. I do not recommend this however.
