What is super interesting to me, is that both Montecatini Terme and Karlovy Vary have this round biscuits as a typical sweet. I don't know if there is relation between the two things, but my mind immediately found out this link! 😂
One linguistic note. The word "dollar" comes indeed from the silver coins from Jáchymov. The original German name of the town is Joachimsthal, which gave the name "thaler" to the coins. Thaler became tolar and the rest is history. :)
Correct. The German name for todays Jáchymov was Joachimsthal (lit. St Joachim's valley) - the silver coin was named just in short version "Thaler" (dropping the Saint Joachim) From this "Thaler" the Czech Tolar and the American Dollar derived.
@@vladislavzubarev5883 I just looked it up: jefimki derived via Polish from the Joachim part of the name - and therefore not from the Valley part like German, Czech or English.
In my humble opinion, this might be one of the best videos of yours! Thank you a lot for this, I enjoyed it every second, just continue this way! Perfect :)
This is an exceptionally great video, congratulations. I'm Hungarian, so I don't live that far from the Czech Republic, but unfortunately I've never been there so far. Maybe one day I can visit Karlovy Vary. It looks gorgeous and the attractions are very interesting. I'd like to suggest something for a future video. If you could show us Prague's pro football teams' stadiums (Bohemians, Slavia, Sparta, Viktoria Zizkov), that'd be cool. I know this subject wouldn't be too exciting for every tourist, but I'm sure there'd be viewers who would enjoy the tours. Slavia's new arena looks fantastic in Google Maps. :)
What a gorgeous city! I loved Prague and your videos have really made me want to explore more of your beautiful country! Thank you for showing us around
Young men that were from a background of intellectuals or some private ownership were considered “bad Kader” and had to work in a mine for 1-2 years to be allowed to go to university.
This looks like an awesome card! Karlovy Vary is now definitely on my brand new solo travel list (recently got dumped by my bf who also loves your channel but I showed it to him so .. :D)! Thank you Honest Guide(s)! Much love from Bulgaria!
I saw the house and it remind me of my Czech "parent.s" house, it was a trow back to 1995... and no I am Czech, I just was an exchange student that had a chance to live in CZ in 1995-96... Thanks for you show, it is full of information, and for me, sometimes nostalgia, such as today.
The czech gov’t subsidies a lot of these places through the minstry of fianance so its very affordable indeed. Some of these places. Other places can be pricier though. Depends really
I've never seen a better ad for a card. I don't live in your country or continent, but I love a good deal and if I were going to travel I would consider going here. Most likely I'll keep traveling through your videos though.
What happened to your old videos? When I went back to rewatch some of them there weren´t there anymore. For example the video with a place where a lady sold haning plants, the store that let´s you colour your own mugs,... I am finally going to Prague after I had to cancel my trip last march. Just a few more days and I can´t even describe how excited I am!!!
There is our one and only international movie festival in Karlovy Vary, so come in next summer. It means the movies are in english or subtitled, and a few are a premiére. Usualy some hollywood faces show up.
You're doing great but I would like to remind if you're moving out from Prague to another city or town please notify how to reach that destination, mode of transport, how far and how long it will take and the cost. This will give the viewers a better idea for future tourist to plan...👍😃
Absolutely loved visiting Karlovy Vary and exploring the city, was there in Dec 2018 and felt so relaxed there...just a shame the becherovka museum was undergoing refurb at the time as it was steps away from my hotel! Cannot wait for restrictions to be eased for uk tourists so i can return to Czech Rep
@@Pyrochemik007 providing they join me for a beer or 5 with goulash i have no problems being 'chaperoned' 🤣 will make a difference to being a solo traveller 😋
@@valeriehulm1255 That is quite the calory bomb. Do not forget to combine with a sport activity. Biking and canoeing go well with both, as certain level of alcohol is mostly tolerated. (However in responsible amounts, getting drunk is reserved for evenings :D) There is not that many bikepaths, but generaly any small country road serves as one. Unlike germany we have plenty of small roads with close to no traffic. For canoeing, this should give the info you need: news.expats.cz/sports-fitness/canoeing-in-the-czech-republic/
"PRAMEN" is close to the Dutch word "PRAMMEN", which is a popular word (plural) for the upper female anatomy. So I was amazed they were selling these in Prague, the first time I visited ;-)
7:30 I camped illegally but for free out behind those moth butterfly houses and tower and beer garden for like three days when I was in Karlovy vary. Awesome views.
Karlsbad inspired Wes Anderson for his movie Grand Budapest Hotel when he was here at film festival. Also the look of hotel building is made after one local hotel (which is no longer pink after reconstruction). And the statue of deer is in original statue of chamois.
What a great video guys! Would love to see Karlovy vary on my next trip to Czech Republic. May I ask the journey time from Prague, public transport or hire car? 🤔
I would reccomend train, more comfortable, and you can read or connect to internet without vomiting your insides out. Plus eating there is allowed, and you sit with friends facing each other. (You need to obtain your own friends though.)
@@Pyrochemik007 thanks very much for replying and giving me great advice - I shall look into the comfortable train as opposed to the vomit-mobile! 😂 have a good day!
Wow 🤩 cool 😎 I guess my 1-day visiting Karlovy Vary plan will not be enough 😅🙈 I believe i’ve seen that special car playing in a movie 🎥 🍿 😊Movie : vrchní prchní (on netflix 😃)
Best Becherovka is lie down 3 days in freezer. Than Becherovka gets lava effect and teast is best. However good is with Sprite who don't need that strong taste.
Hey guys any chance u might do a video about what attractions are open and pubs and clubs under your current covid restrictions and if tourists are coming back? Thanks lads love your videos.
i love my visits to the Czech Republic, including the karlovy vary. the only thing i disliked is finding a hotel with a lift/elevator. i would LOVE to take my father but he cannot do stairs.
I am watching your videos every now and then because I am considering to go to Prague. I was wondering if you could give me some advice about nice hotels to stay which are not super expensive but kinda good quality. I am Dutch and on the websites I am trying to find a nice stay, there has been called a lot of disadvantages for example room isn’t clean or something like that. Actually pretty oké for a student. Proper is important to me.
Of course you do like Becher :D We even have a saying: Drinking like a Dane (sorry if I butchered it). Yoour country is beatifull also :) And your products
I don't think so because they teamed up with the city specifically to promote this card. Btw in case you were wondering the 350 CZK price for 2 days is less than 14 EUR which is really good price
Hello Janek & Honza, I was in Prague with my girlfriend 2 years ago before Covid-19. It was so nice and now I want to bring my whole family with me. We are not sure if we can visit, because we are not fully vaccinated yet. Can we still visit bars or restaurants? Thank you so much for your work!!
You can if you have an official PCR test that is not older than 1 week, or an antigen test not older more than 72 hours. If you want to dance the test must not be older than 24 hours. OR if you had covid you have peace for 180 days. But you must have a paper/digital confirmation from your doctor. And the approved vaccines are only those that have been approved by the EMA. Comirnaty (pfizer), Spikevax (modern), Vaxzevria (astrazeneca) and Janssen.
It is great to see a video about, from Karlovy Vary. I hope, one day I can visit the city, got to the Film Festival and maybe stay for a night in the Grandhotel Pupp, like Queen Latifah* and Daniel Craig** did it! ;) Best wishes and Hugs (to Janek) from Pécs, Hungary! ;) E, (**Last Holiday; **James Bond: 007 - Casino Royale)
