I’ve just got the unfettered flight ink, and I agree with everything you’ve said in this review. The shimmer is inconsistent and only really stays for the first couple of words before it wears off, leaving you with a pale (barely legible) ink base. I’m quite disappointed as it looked completely different on their sample! Not worth the £20 in my humble opinion. Thanks for sharing your thoughts 😊

Hi Louise! Thanks for showing off this sneaky nib size on the nib! When I first got my carousel, it took me what felt like forever to find a video (more like 10 searches) that told me where the markings are. The nib size marking blends in so well with the nib design. You seem to have a blue themed set this month! The best use I've seen so far for this ink was painting feathers. I thought that it was adorable that "unfettered flight" ink was best for painting "feathers" 😄 I do like pushing the limits of shimmer in fountain pens. As you know, I'm a shimmer ink fan. I find it's the fountain pen feed size rather than nib width size that affects the likelihood of clogging a fountain pen with shimmer. It's why I've had no issues using heavily shimmered inks in a Pilot Kakuno with a fine nib. The nib tip size is more to maximise surface area of ink on the page, rather than improving the flow of shimmer particles. The ink looks amazing in a dip pen. The best part seems to be the shift in shimmer colour from gold to pink and back. I think it must use the same idea as the Diamine "Chameleon" inks. In terms of agitating the shimmer in a fountain pen, I usually just invert the pen upside down at the end of writing a paragraph for a 2 seconds, and that's enough to get the shimmer back into suspension again. No need to do all that wiggly wiggly shaking that I've seen some people do. 😉Hence, I can write hours and hours with a shimmer ink without issue and be productive at the same time. I wonder if the swatch card is water colour paper?

Hi Mel! Thank you so much for watching! That's a really interesting observation about the feed size. Do you have any tips how to identify the optimal feed size for shimmer inks? You are always making interesting discoveries! Yes that pink to gold colour shift is definitely my favourite part too. I haven't tried a chameleon ink though I do like seeing Erick Gama trying them out. I agree with the over vigorous shaking of the pen, I find shimmer inks in my TWSBIs just need a gentle seesaw moment to remix before continuing, however, as they are demonstrators, the need to overcompensate for not being able to see what's going on is removed. When I can't see, I like to hear! The sound of the mixing ball moving reassures me that things are going ok. Which probably gets a bit aggressive at times! Possibly the swatch cards are made from a hot press watercolour paper as they are quite smooth. I do love the gold foiling on them though too! 😃💕Louise

@@coffeeteapaperNo easy method to tell feed channel width apart from taking the fountain pen apart and experience. It is easier to see in the Twsbi and Kakuno because they have clear sections. Some brands are better known for having a wide-ish feed channel. Aim for known "wet writing" pens, the ones that flow exceedingly well to the point of showing pastel inks in a saturated manner like it's come fresh off a dip pen. These fountain pens are perfect for shimmers. (It helps to have a "standard" testing ink as the control between all your pens to find this out) The chameleon shimmer inks are hard to see on normal writing. I find it easier to see the colour shift in sketches when I lay down heavy layers of ink so that the shimmer has ample opportunity to layer on itself. Other than that, the best way is in the bottle once the shimmer has settled. I could tell it very easily in your bottle.

I enjoyed seeing that ink. Just to let you know I managed to find a wonderful stationery shop about 40 miles away from where I live and visited it today….I was in heaven! I bought a greatly reduced Sailor PGS pink Hagi with the HaraHara ink, a Sailor ink called Seki, a bit pale but I wanted to give it a go, FWP Spadina Rose, which I love, and Diamine Chocolate Brown and Onyx Black ( I didn’t have a black ink so needed this.)Also bought a wooden stamp of a fountain pen and a Travelers Notebook insert. I spent over an hour talking to the guy in there and really enjoyed myself. It was lovely to be able to see all the swatches and pens in person. 😀❤️

Oh Wow Jean! What a lovely day you had by the sounds of it. 40 miles is quite the trip but worth it for the personal service. I much prefer to see things in person if I can but RU-vid is definitely that one step away from being able to handle things yourself if online is the only option. What a great find! 😃💕Louise
