I was excited to see Erik Estrada play the character Adam (the father at the beginning of this episode). He was a heartthrob back in the 70s on a TV show called "CHiPs". I have a photo of myself with Erik from a car show he was at. He's still YUMMY today!!
The theme of the episode is the theme of the show: assumptions without all the facts are dangerous. Great writing in Vault 4. 😁 Did you notice The Ghoul never shoots out-of-hand? He always provokes the other party into becoming a threat, so he can 'justify' killing them. He's created a persona for himself so a fundamentally good man can do bad things.
Fred Armisen as the Radio Station DJ, hilarious! If you've never seen his bits (other than Portlandia), you MUST, to appreciate his character in Fallout. In the first episode the show presents itself as three main stories, Lucy, Max, and the Ghoul. When they actually pull off five plotlines, counting in Cooper in the past, and Norm's investigation of the vaults added into the mix. It's impressive that all of them equally important to the overall story. Also, those are some Jim Halpert level looks to camera early in the episode KL.
Watching everyone's reactions to the foot scenes makes me laugh so much, especially you when you tried to cover your face but still had little opening slits through your fingers where you can kinda still see it even when you didn't wanna see it the 2nd time 🤣
The NPC - doctor " snake oil seller " is an amazing character. Exactly the kind of npc youd meet in the games. When he says to Thaddeus " ah yes, shattered foot ive seen that condition before ' he's referencing ep 2 when he was in Filly and saw Wilzig get his foot blown up by the Ghouls' explosive shot. that " doctor" isnt totally stupid i belive he knows medecine but he gave Thaddeus a ghoul-serum that heals everything - but- also turns you into a ghoul on the long term
I don't think Thaddeus is turning into a Ghoul. Based on all the lore I've read in the games only a small percentage of people have the genetic traits to turn into ghouls, every one else just dies from the radiation poisoning. No I think Thaddeus is turning into something else all together, something that every Fallout player knows but has only been hinted at in the show ... A Super Mutant. Reasoning, the FEV works on most people and depending on the amount of exposure can take a while to fully manifest its self. It can be administer directly, ingested, inhaled or just by physical contact.
I love the Vault 4 storytelling because it's a play on fans prejudice. All fans come to the conclusion that this is a vault running bad experiments, it even revealed the "Test Subjects" sign. then it turns out that, no, the Vault 4 vault dwellers are the result of those experiments and for once, a vault is actually a pretty good place. As for Thaddeus, I've heard Ghoul Serum as well as FEV, but I don't really get it. Being a ghoul provides healing powers, sure, but not to that extreme levels. So I suspect the chem Hydra, which does heal limbs. But being held at gunpoint the "charlatan" decided to spice it up with the same drug that turned Hancock (FO4) into a ghoul, research having found its way to the west coast. Similar with Coop, it's not that him being a ghoul that makes him invincible early on, it's the fact that he's well prepared for the fight having taken all the drugs in the book. Ref the line: "...small drop in a very, very large bucket of drugs". Playing hard core with self inflicted perma death, I couldn't afford staying conservative with drug use. Being an old dice player, perma death was definitely a thing, and it forces you to play in a way that utilizes all options. Hell, we'd even get experience points based on how well we utilized the role playing options rather than kills.
The show does an excellent job portraying crippled limbs like how it's done in the game. Not fatal -- despite how gruesome the injury would be -- , but would _definitely_ slow you down.
Betty certainly poisoned the raiders. And she can use it to set up Norm to take the fall if he keeps pushing things. She's been subtlety warning him to let things go. Now he's set up to take the fall if necessary. He did say basically that the raiders should be killed at the meeting. He was the one in charge of feeding them. Betty knew what she was doing with him from the start. She's good at playing politics. People wonder why Cooper tasted the blood. He doesn't have a sense of smell any more. Tasting is the next best thing to identify something
I think Moldaver was so praised and followed in the past for being the scientist who cracked cold fusion (even today cold fusion hasn't been solved as to how to implement it practically) then was given the name Flame Mother because she survived the nuclear blast at Shady Sands and received a cult following unintentionally by people who were impressed by her surviving. I'm not clear if she became the leader of the NCR after or before the bombing of Shady Sands. Maybe I'll figure it out if I re-watch or watch a video on the shows history.
Did you enjoy the Fallout 4 Radio Freedom music? I like Vault 4; that the dwellers rebelled, and made it a better place (even if they are a bit strange with their Flame Mother thing), that now helps people, including those poor cryosleeping women.
High Intelligence in Fallout leads to easier hacking opportunities. When in doubt, even with low Intelligence, you can just repeatedly select the first three hacking options, back out, & rinse & repeat.
Where can I get one of those cool Vault-Tec bath robes? I don't think Mike Lindell is selling them. Anyway KL, I really enjoyed this video. I love your style.
That damned fiddle music!! Nooooooo! 😖😖😖 It was always playing on a certain station in FO4. 🥵 15:17 Of course! He had to make sure it wasn’t raspberry jam! 🤣 I love hacking terminals! Especially when you can override the turrets to shoot your enemies instead of you 😂
I know its 2 months later. But on the Thadius ghoul thing. The guy that gave him the cure was advertising "serums" in an early episode in the town. In fallout 76 you can get serums which will give you mutations without having to get them naturally from rad exposure. I think its a neat nod toward that gameplay mechanic. I think he was given the "healing factor" serum from fo76.
Ghouls are the product of radiation, but there have been a couple of examples of drugs and treatment also making people into a ghoul (like Hancock in Fallout 4), so it looks like there are a few routes you can take to get to that stage.
I think Thaddeus becoming a Ghoul is a bit of a red herring, I don't remember Ghoul's having the ability to regenerate limbs like that (correct me if I'm wrong). I think he could well become a Super Mutant, but I guess we'll find out in season 2.
If they're not going the Super Mutant route, then it seems likely that ghouls healing their limbs like we see in this show with that foot is something that is first introduced with this show. Perhaps the game devs/writers at the time never thought to do it, and it was only when writing this story for live-action that they felt it could be a neat addition and we may see it in future Fallout games. I still don't believe that ghouls can re-grow a new limb if it gets removed entirely. But if it's still attached and simply just mangled like in the case of Thaddeus' foot... OR if they can reattach a limb (The Ghoul using Lucy's finger) then the body will accept/heal.
I think there's a perk (at least in F3, can't recall offhand which one in F4) that heals everything -- including crippled limbs -- if you're irradiated enough.
I see Lucy as having a higher Intelligence, average Charisma (she has had a Lot of hilarious skill fails so far), and a high Perception. Rest of hers I’d guess are low-mid range. Maximus seems pretty average across the board, except for a lower Intelligence and higher Luck. He often rushes into things without getting any information about the situation at hand, and yet also manages to pull off some feats you could only attribute to a lucky disposition… or dumb luck. 1) threatening the farmer who was attacking the chicken fucker; and 2) stealing Vault 4’s fusion core and then attacking them when Lucy had been let go 🤣 Cooper seems to be that well-seasoned high-level player that’s maxed out their stats, and most likely has most of the perks. During the fight in Filly, he deftly utilized Bloody Mess, Gun Fu, Steady Aim, Concentrated Fire, Rooted, Penetrator, Gunslinger, and most likely Solar Powered … just to name a few. 😅
The only thing that made vault 4 truly seem suspicious was “obviously don’t go to level 12.” Well, no-one you’re saying that to knows what you think is obvious about it! Why mention it at all… and, since you do, why not fully explain it up front? Besides that, viewers are going to be suspicious of everything anyway. People are too happy? Has to be a cult! People are too friendly? They have to have an ulterior motive! And so on.

I'll point out that Lucy actually hasn't really passed any of her Speech Checks. lol She failed to convince the Council to go after her father, she failed to get information about Moldaver from the shop merchant in Filly, she failed to convince The Ghoul to let her go. I'll give her convincing the two guys in the Super Duper Mart to let the ghouls go but that seemed like an easy one since they were so lazy. Did she pass the one against the people on the bridge? They did what she asked but changed their minds. She comes off as having high Charisma but doesn't. You know who has a high Speech? Thaddeus. He convinced Max to not kill him when they first became his squire, he successfully avoided getting on Max's nerves while they were traveling by making the good decisions seem like they came from him, he even convinced the Fred Armesen to let him use his radio tower when clearly he didn't take visitors haha. Low Barter though, a Fusion Core for whatever he got done to him.. but he I guess it did actually fix his foot.
I wouldn't really call it high Charisma or laziness with the Super Duper Mart operators because she was threatening them with Abraxo-filled needles. 😂 And Lucy has had some success with her words and questions, just look at her interactions with Maximus! And we haven't even gotten to the finale yet, where she has her biggest speech check success of all. I think it makes perfect sense that as she goes through this story, she wouldn't fail as much.
I honestly think Thaddeus is becoming a super mutant & not a ghoul based on the fact the snake oil sellar said he doesn't have to worry bout radiation!!! Ghouls still gotta worry bout radiation. I really hope im right cause that be cool, but guess time will tell...❤💞❤️
