Thanks so much, Michael! I'm a new teacher (January 2021). I came here to understand what the difference was between current payrates and what they used to be. I enjoy teaching for VIPKID, and as a new EFL teacher, I feel like I've been taught well by VIPKID, between their TEFL certification and their many educational resources. Plus, their curriculum rocks. However, I now feel like I'm giving far more than I'm getting paid for. I think I'll be taking your advice and looking up Outschool and GoGokid. Maybe if VIPKID sees many of their teachers continuing to leave or reduce loads over this pay scale change, they'll revise it to make it a bit more equitable.
Hey Michael. You really analyze this so well, and communicate the numbers wonderfully. I do love your openly expressed optimism in the face of change, and I agree that as independent contractors, we can choose. Take care bud!
*Great video! Love seeing teachers take on this big change! I am definitely taking a cut and just finished my first on Outschool. DM me anytime - I want to hear how your experience is going so far!*
You did a great job clarifying this. If my current student load wasn't reduced by half in the past three weeks, I might not be taking this so hard. But with regulars suddenly disappearing en masse, significantly fewer students finding their way into my schedule, plus the reduction in the bonus structure, I am a very unhappy teacher.
....Oh wow! Not to sound sappy but Teacher Michael is simply just the "Bee's knees" 😊 I love the ending of this video! 🤣Thank you so much for the info. Just signed my contract a week ago and about to get started, just familiarizing myself with the Platform before I open up time slots! Thank you so much for your guidance and support. If you guys are looking for a Referall Teacher ..... this is the Man! 13k subscribers ... 🤨 That will very soon be much much higher.
I currently try to get 45 classes a month at vip. I will keep signing contracts but it will make magic ears my main company and only do short notice at vipkid. I’ll now make $5 more an hour at magic ears. I’ll probably end up teaching a lot less because the incentives aren’t so enticing
Excellent information! Thank you so much for doing this for us! If I am signing a new contract right now (yes, I very lucky I think). So since it's before August, I will have the old pay for another 6 months...right? Just wanted to make sure I understood that part too.
Whitney, no if you signed after December 26, 2019 then your contract is already under the new system he's talking about, so there will be no difference for you starting in August. I signed recently so I'm in the same boat. Best of luck! I'm loving it so far! Teacher Michael, thank you for your very helpful channel. Your resources and advice are inspirational and very useful!
Just a heads up that you cannot teach on Outschool from abroad. You must be in one of the approved countries while teaching the class. If your into the VIPKID Digital Nomad life this is not an option. I found out the hard way after working on the application for a week so I just want to make sure no one else finds out that way!
I’m a new teacher and this October will be my 1st year anniversary teaching with VIPKID. I can’t apply for a raise this year because I missed 3 classes already. My question is, can I still apply for a raise next year on my 5th contract??
No. All base pay raises are taken away. Everyone gets one more shot on their next contract (if its an odd one). I believe you could try and apply for a soft cancellation depending on the class. Also, you might want to send a ticket just to confirm what the raise requirements for you are. A big issue for most teachers the first time getting a raise is that you have teach 1200 in 11 months because they give you the new contract on the first day of the last month of the current contract and you have to meet the requirements before they make the new contract. Its tricky.
Hi Michael, I'm a current VIPkid teacher and had actually tried to apply to Outschool a day before we heard about the pay structure change at VIPkid. Though, I was rejected within 24 hours and have heard that this may be due to location issues. I'm applying from Germany, where I live part time (but am a US citizen) and it sounds like there is some issue with security and background testing when applying outside of Canada, UK, US, or Australia. I'm wondering if you know anything about this? If VPN's are beneficial in this situation? Besides flying to the UK or waiting until I fly back to the US (and who knows how long this could take in current conditions) what are my options? I would love to use your referral in exchange for any assistance. Thank you!
Hey Jessica! I don’t think VPNs help in this situation. From what I understand if you don’t live in the UK, US, Canada or Australia you are in eligible to teach on Outschool… At the moment.
Yes but in the example I was assuming 100 classes taught so it would have activated the $2 bonus after the 45th class. It does apply retroactively like that, doesn’t it?
The number of classes in '"Insights" isn't accurate, however. It does not include SNS and supplemental classes. Likely, most of us are on a higher tier than it appears now. They said they'd give us our actual number closer to the system change.
