I just wanted to take a second and thank you, and a few other people, Vantages,Loggerwade,Cotontop, and PAMining. I started watching Van and PA and have always wanted to get into operating equipment but I'm a nervous wreck when it comes to being out going. but after beating myself up enough by watching all of y'all enjoy your jobs so much I went out and applied at a company that does Site/Pipe/Road/Sod/Concrete. anyhow I started out as a grade checker on a road crew. just holding a tape measure and level, learning to set up the laser. then how to put grades on stakes, shovel tracks off, little stuff. Well now it's been maybe only 8/9ish months. I'm on a pipe crew running excavator(which was my dream since I was 5) running a haul truck, pan tractor, and hoping on a dozer a few times(my new dream job). but I was just informed by one of my super intendents that I need to jump off the Hoe any time we're laying a stick and I don't have anything to do for that minute to jump off learn how to read the sight level(laser thing I still don't fully understand) so that I can learn that, how to read my prints, calculate slopes and grades because I'm going to have to learn to be a foreman and take over another crew in a few months(much rather stay an operator for a while longer cause that thought is stressing me out a little bit). I just all in all, wanted to say thank you, and all your co workers(co RU-vidrs) that some videos on RU-vid helped an extremely shy, anti social, video game geek go out and pursue his dreams at 23 and thanks to my somewhat calm demeanor and patience with the learning curve, but also peppy enough to keep up when we're grinding out 70hours a week. That you all have, together helped me become what I am at this moment so thank you very much.
thats awesome man! congrats on that. Sounds like you made some pretty quick progress in the company. that is always a good thing. Always listen to the senior members, theyve been around a long time and you really can learn alot but just being around someone like that
letsdig18 thanks for the input I'm doing my best to pick up from anyone weather their older or younger. so long as they can teach me something or I can for them I try to have an open ear. hope all is well for you man.
Being a farmer and only playing with ag equipment these videos are cool. I'm sure it's just another hat to you like a combine is to me but this stuff looks fun!! Thanks for the cool videos and commentary on equipment is always nice give a person like me more knowledge and a person who has no idea at all a ton of knowledge!!! Thanks again!!
Chris you working that machine is like you are sitting in your living room at home all comfie playing a nintendo game LOL great video of the new machine.
Brandon Johnson The def system puts out nitrogen instead of carbon dioxide like the older non def equipped machines do. He's exactly right the air is cleaner at the exhaust than the air intake filter.
Glad to hear the new 220 is working out for your fleet, letsdig18. Speaking of working out, it sounds like the back up alarm and seat belt warning were fixed?
I've noticed a lot of companies are using the Volvo brand for most of their equipment. Seems to be a trend and then using Cat and Komatsu as their secondary help. What features sold you on the Volvo? I see a lot of them are coming with ISO/SAE variable controls so more so in shopping around for a machine I'm not worried about control layout. More so hydraulic cycle times. Just wondering what your input is as I am looking at Komatsu PC130-8 or a Cat 313FLGC.
Chris, is it the angle of the lens or are you sort of laying back in your seat ? It looks like you're sitting in a recliner easy chair. Smooth Volvo action; looks really nice. Those side cutters do seem to help you 'cut' those trees for the pile though, but I do see the annoying part of those cutters as well, tyey would drive me crazy too..
since def is cat piss they should just design it to where a hose is in the cab and when you got to take a leak you can use the hose and refill your machine at the same time. lol
Very nice machine, but I was wondering if there wasn't another way of clearing so much land that is a little more Earth friendly and does not release so much smoke and carbon into the air. Cut down the big trees and use them for some sustainable purpose and mulch the smaller trees? Is that a concern or not?
Just curious, Chris, if you got a GREAT DEAL from Volvo after that nice video they did of you? This sure beats just getting a box with a cap and clamps for the dumper! :-)
All new diesel engined equipment has a DEF system ( Diesel Exhaust Fluid ) the fluid mixes with the exhaust in a special filter while the engine is running its suppose to make it cleaner. DEF is extra money along with more maintenance for the system.
AWFULCOLD MINER they are. My grandpa rented a jcb backhoe to rip up a long sidewalk and it didnt have the power to do it, the smallest bobcat loader or mini excavator could do it
some use JCB and are happy with them. no one run them around here. looks like many are moving away from Volvo equipment. tired of all the downtime i guess. hitachi and cat looks like are the most popular.
