Front wheels are faster than rear wheels 🤣. Joking aside, there's something very cool about building up an amazing bike, using an old frame and a bunch of cheaper Chinese components. Nice one!

Cool. Can’t disagree with your thoughts! My only thought in relation to this content is that YES folk do need less expensive alternatives to big brands and their big prices.

I honestly think 8kg is a respectable weight all things considered. Sure, we'd all love a top end 5kg superbike, but too many people get fixated on the whole weight thing when it's not that important unless you're a pro.

I think the way to go is with older framesets that are "out of fashion". I have a 2012 framset from a bike that was £7k new - got it for £400 in 2017 because it was a externally routed frame. I suspect it would go for even less today given how everyone wants disc brakes. Same thing with wheels and finishing kit. I got a pair of Mavic Ksyrium SLEs for next to nothing because they weren't deep dish, Sworks Carbon Stem and Handlebars because it had no internal routing for cables (again) etc. etc. The only new thing I bought new was a 6800 ultregra groupset, and that was half off because 8000 was just out. I spent about £1.2k all things considered for a close to top-end spec bike.

If possible, it would be great to get your thoughts (reviews) on more endurance oriented or "normal people" bikes. Many of the products you cover lean towards _smashy_ race-style riding (long & low frames, deep section wheels, etc.). Thx!

8 kg is fine. I figure tires matter more than frames for comfort, assuming fit is ok. Those wheels seem quite a bit like my Elite 50D wheels, which I like a lot. But the ceramic bearings may not be as durable as I'd like. I run 30 mm tires. Very comfy on my lush and zoomy Yoeleo R12.

8kg bike is not that bad for an aero one. Had a 7.2kg bike that I handpicked the parts and it was mix of used and brand new parts, plus alloy frame, I miss that bike. Annoying thing is I’m not confident that it would last under my weight. 😅
