guys please dont hate, hes just a kid, but at the same time people really need to learn how to judge and check things. this was also the second bad judge IN A ROW as the one before this didnt say 8 and 12 seconds but i dont feel like uploading that. what happened here was immediately after he lifted it he was like "oh wait it wasnt reset" then proceeded to say 8 seconds so i was really confused and like thinking this should be an extra but the 8 seconds thing was like wait am i gonna solve then i just turned it by accident then realized that would be a dnf so i said that out loud then just yelled for a delegate. ALSO ALL PEOPLE PLEASE DO NOT SAY 3 2 1 GO IT IS SO ANNOYING AND I TOLD LIKE 5 PEOPLE AT THIS COMP TO NOT
also gotta love nancy in these situations

lol my mom told me about this its interesting seeing the actual video. Nice thing you did call over a delegate! Also there will always be people that don't do the best at judging, many times its one of their first comps and they don't know all the ins and outs of it. Feel free to tell them nicely what to do in the future and don't be afraid to call over a delegate when something happens. I even forgot to call 8 seconds at least twice in 2022 because I got distracted and I've been to almost 80 comps, everyone makes mistakes even if it sucks as the competitor affected. Its very rare at a local competition you won't have a few inexperienced judges or judges that make mistakes.

I've never gone to a comp before and I'm waiting for one to be announced in my area (I missed the registration of the one next week RIP) and judging is one of my worst fears HAHAHA because I feel like I'm gonna forget to call a time or do something dumb that messes up the solve 💀

@@brownfamily1892 Everyone makes a mistake here or there about judging, its okay. Its very helpful to show up for the new competitor/judging tutorial, ask questions about what you are unsure about, and try your best. If this is helpful for you, I think the biggest mistakes new judges make are forgetting to call 8/12 seconds, cubing during someone's solve, and stopping the stopwatch when the competitor puts their hands on the timer instead of when they release their hands from the timer. If you are judging at your first competition and are unsure of anything the best thing to do is call over a delegate

Over the past 2 months I’ve become extremely grateful for a delegate like Nancy, because the judging problems seem to be getting worse, and she’s really serious and blunt when in comp-mode. I was on the wrong side of an exchange once and it was the last 😂

I just think everyone should know how to judge, as well as be fairly familiar with the regulations prior to judging (especially if they are also competing). The judge should not talk to the competitor unless the competitor talks to them. Otherwise they should only ask the competitor if they are ready, and say 8/12 seconds where appropriate. The 3-2-1 thing is so frustrating. Another thing that’s frustrating is when the judge reacts to your solves (whether it is the attempt currently being judged, or reacting to times on the scorecard from previous attempts in a way that throws off your focus prior to the attempt so you take longer before saying you’re ready). TL;DR - there is a judge problem that needs to be addressed lol

I had a terrible judge in my last comp. It was during 6x6 and I was trying to focus before my solve and they were yelling to their friend. Then they did the 3-2-1 thing. Also when I was solving, it was going really well, but they decided to start solving their 5x5 while I was. Their cube popped in the middle of my solve and it was really hard to concentrate.

@@macubing7318 Question from someone who's never been to a comp before: Is the 3-2-1 thing annoying when they do it instead of asking if you're ready, or is it also ok to ask if they're ready, then do the 3-2-1 AFTER they say they're ready? Or should you just lift the box right after they say "ready" That was a jumble of words so I'm just gonna put it like this: Which of these are ok or better to do? a) Ask competitor if they're ready, then do 3-2-1-lift AFTER they say they're ready b) Ask competitor if they're ready, then lift the box right after they say they're ready c) 3-2-1-lift even if the competitor hasn't said "ready" yet (this is the one that's annoying and shouldn't be done right?) pls answer bc im starting to get scared of judging at comps now HAHAHAH 💀 OH ALSO ALSO Do you call out 8 and 12 as 8 seconds elapsed and 12 seconds elapsed? Or do you call 8 and 12 as 8 seconds remaining and 12 seconds remaining?
@macubing7318
@macubing7318 Год назад
@@brownfamily1892 definitely shouldn’t do the 3-2-1 thing as a replacement for ready. Many people take 30 seconds to a minute to get ready and 3 ain’t enough. Also right after ready they should just lift the cover. So b. Also u say 8 seconds after 8 seconds has passed and 12 after 12 have passed. Dw u will be a good judge just based on u asking these questions. There is also a new competitor tutorial where they teach h how to judge wel.

I always thought judging is easy, until I joined my first comp last weekend. I forgot to call out 8 seconds one time and I was so panic and praying that the competitor start the solve ASAP lmao... luckily he started at 9 seconds. Tbh after experiencing being a judge, there are so many things to check... checking the stopwatch to call 8 and 12, checking whether the competitor did any moves during inspection, checking the palm placement when starting the timer, checking the hand placement when stopping the timer, check for +2, check for whether the competitor touched the cube after stopping the timer, and most importantly, no moving, no overreacting, no talking, no playing with the cube when the competitor is on his attempt.

I had to judge at my first comp, before even competing. It was stressing me out, scared to do something wrong. I know they need judges however i'd rather have first-timers run as they can barely mess up anything that way.
@comp.lex4

My first competition had a kid running who shouted people's names right at the scrambling table, instead of actually going to the competitor waiting area. I hadn't qualified for that round, but it must have been super distracting. And he mixed up two people's names repeatedly, it's lucky the judges noticed or else I don't know what would have happened. Same kid also stopped right in front of the table mid-run to watch someone's solve. All this to say, it's definitely possible to mess up running😅
