New Wreck!

On December 27, 2023, our team conducting a field search in the wider Faliro area made a new discovery! A collaborative dive by a diverse team of CCR and OC divers led to the remarkable finding of wreckage submerged at 60 meters depth.
The divers meticulously photographed and filmed this historical artifact. Initial analysis by our esteemed friend and fellow diver, WWII wreck historian Dimitris Galon, hints at a compelling possibility-it could be a segment of the JU52 aircraft, bearing production number 7098, which tragically crashed in Faliro just after takeoff on November 28, 1943.
Resting on a serene sandy bed, this remarkable wreckage unveiled itself to the team. Two CCR divers delved deep for 35 minutes, capturing detailed footage of the site. Joined later by two OC divers, the exploration of this newfound wreck continued.
The unmistakable traces of an aircraft-fragments of the main and tail fuselage, a wing, and scattered smaller pieces-paint a vivid picture of this historical find. It is possible that this segment found its resting place after being ensnared in a trawl net and dragged to its present location. This supposition gains credence from the telltale signs found on the wreckage-a haunting testimony to its tragic past. The twisted metal and torn pieces of fuselage bear the scars of its underwater journey. Nets clinging to parts of the wreckage further hint at its entanglement, providing a visual narrative of this poignant chapter in history.
