Okay so... maybe I'm playing too much playstation and sleeping a little too much these days. I am learning how to live in balance instead of in the extremes, and how to change my mindset towards myself and my accomplishments. If you relate to this, I'm sure you'll find some comfort in today's video ♡
I have created my own skincare brand just for you ♡

I don't know how to word this without sounding weird, but seeing you play video games is really comforting to me. I'm a huge introvert and spend lots of time gaming, thus watching you live such an incredible life in Seoul is like a movie, but moments like this make me feel as if you were just like me, because it is something I can relate to (especially since you play Genshin, too :D). So please don't feel bad for getting lost in a game once in a while 🧡

Gaming has always been my escape, I love it. Started with WoW as a kid and then it took off 🥹 I’ll never stop gaming, but perhaps I would love some balance haha 💚 maybe you have a tip? How do you do?
@sodarox
@sodarox Год назад
@@sisselab I wanted to respond here because I agree with aliner66 in that I have found it absolutely delightful that you are a gamer 💜. I can relate to you as well that gaming has always been my escape and can honestly say WoW saved me from my depression back when I played. My current job is super stressful (I'm a nurse) and while I still use games as my main escape, I noticed feeling bad also when I spent too much time gaming. I have recently remedied this by picking up another hobby, namely collecting and growing plants. I have a jungle now lol but I found growing and tending to my plants extremely therapeutic and has helped me create balance with gaming. Both hobbies equally enjoyable and frustrating haha. Hoping you find your balance too, much love 💜

Sissel I think I know what you mean by doing something 'childlike' to boost your spirit. I was home for Christmas break and my boyfriend and I built snowmen, had snowball fights all throughout his stay. What made you happy as a child, will surely still boost you to this day. After that I felt so rejuvenated, I laughed so much and I didn't care about appearances etc. Just having fun doing 'childish' things and enjoying sharing the moment with the best person

honestly i’ve had this dilemma since the beginning of the year as well. trying to start new routines and break bad habits is HARD and i just keep telling myself to take baby steps. i feel like self encouragement can and will go a long way. ya know, we’re so quick to get down on ourselves and so quick do be like “you said you were gonna do this and act this way from now on and here you are STILL acting the same as before” and we do that without realizing that it’s 1) not helpful to ourselves and 2) not realistic. you never break a habit in a few days, a week, 2 weeks. it’s a journey. just like how starting that bad habit was a journey, breaking it will be the same.

We hear everyone say “new year, new me” thinking that everything changes when in reality the only thing that change is the month and the year. I think the beginning of the new year is the time when we need to be more gentle and kind with ourselves because we just finished a year and we need time to process it. Even if you didn’t go to the gym 3 times during the week I think just showing up one time is good enough and you should celebrate that. I hope a rough beginning will bloom in something more beautiful❤️

During the holidays, I found my Nintendo 3DS and all my childhood games. I was playing animal crossing and Zelda for like one and a half weeks straight. I'm 23 now and I've never had such lovely holidays. It was like time traveling back to my childhood, and I've never felt such a peace in such a long time. So please do not feel bad about gaming or being unproductive. Enjoy your time! Every human needs breaks to be even more productive in the end! Love you! ❤️

It’s a challenge every New Year, I usually got depressed when I was in my 20’s and 30’. Now I am 47 and I have learned that I can be truly grateful for everything, even the set backs and mistakes, because I learned valuable lessons. Also for PlayStation and ease of mind I recommend Assassins Creed Valhalla. Besides the story and the fighting, I find it really relaxing to go horseback riding through the beautiful landscape, or fishing which you can do in this game. It’s like getting out in summery landscapes, like going on a vacation, when the greyness of winter is overwhelming outside. You are doing great overall! So give yourself a hug from me 🤗 I wish it had been so easy to make videos and edit (like I do on my iPhone nowadays) 20 years ago when Iived in Copenhagen. First of all, thank you for this honest vlog Sissel 💚 I totally agree with the balance thing and 2022 was the year that taught me this, after having extreme ups and downs. But even though balance is good, sometimes it is hard to keep. So in that times, I try to allow myself to be unbalanced cause I think maybe that is what I actually need at that moment. I remind myself that I already have the power to be balanced again, whenever I feel like. Thank you again for sharing your sincere feelings with us and I wish you happiness and love for the rest of the year, take care 🧡

I don't think year should be a limit of a cycle, we can change whenever we want and if we see early on that the things we want to improve/change in our lives are not our truth then we'd wait another year to change something else. For everyday kind of games like Wow I think it's important to find a balance. Games like The Last of us 2, that have an ending, are more like movies, so I think it makes sense to binge those. There’s nothing wrong with taking the time to enjoy a game like that once in a while, so I don’t think you should be disappointed in yourself at all💗I actually just finished playing the Last of us 2 for the first time as well, and I couldn’t put it down either. Personally, I find gaming quite therapeutic and helpful for my anxiety, as its the only way I can really turn my brain off, and stop thinking in negative circles.

I think it is completely fine to have those sluggish days from time to time. Like you said, life is about balance. I allow myself to have those days when I need them just like allowing myself cheat days from healthy eating and rest days from exercising. I think it is just society that makes us believe we have to perform 100% all the time. But that's not a healthy way of living and it's not natural either.

Thanks for that Video Sissel. It felt really nice hearing about your experiences and learning about the energery levesl and such. I think it is ok to do certain things that might feel "lazy" or "wrong" or "not productive" (like gaming, watching netflix etc). But sometimes those thngs can still be rewarding and can feel comforting and nice. At the end of the day, balance really is key and knowing yourself enough to realise when you need a proper boost of energy ad some real quality time (spending time with friends and loved ones, doing sports and just being productive in a healthy way) I hope everyones 2023 is going good so far (remember it does not have to be perfect!) I think honesty is key - thank you for being open here. But, I also think that you have to trust your past self, we go through blips (or things that we consider as blips) and then we have our own mini regular Saturn returns (like to think that they are more regular than Saturn) and bounce back. Agree with having a bit of a calming phase before as I think if we make ourselves into an alien from usual selves, we can properly step out, watch ourselves and reflect.

I think a lot the time we only feel our lives are unbalanced because we are comparing ourselves to the “balanced” lives we see on social media or tv. A day of video games can be nice and sometimes so can a full day of working. I think it’s all about following how your truly feel that day not how you think you should feel. All goals should be slow and steady to be maintained so don’t expect your life to change and for routines to stick just a week into implementing them!

Hi, thank you for taking us on a tour of your life and being so open and honest with us. About the gaming: I suspect this kind of escapism is typical especially in people who don't have any real/physical boundaries between their places of work and where they spend their free time. (My mom was a teacher she brought a lot of work home and she binge read a lot of fantasy books, I did the same during my Uni days, when I lived in a tiny flat and my desk was next to my bed). You share a big part of your life, your apartement, even your holidays so whatever world you enter when you start gaming is truly a work-free zone. Your brain might have needed a 6 hour mini vacation. (I found accepting those trips into fantasy-land helped me a lot to get some motivation and creative energy out of it.) I hope that helped a little. Good luck 🍀

She also felt disappointed in herself for not realizing her goals but then it turned out all of them were external motivators. We talked about the importance of having a purpose but a purpose is not something we do or our job or role in society. Its what connects us to ourselves and for that we need to do more things that we love ❤ also for the playstation i realized the same about youtube. Instead I practise stillness I have moments during the day where I just do nothing and gaze at the sky and sip tea and these moments help me recharge I hope you find everything that fulfills your heart Sissel and thanks for reminding us that resting IS part of the process ;)

When it comes to games (or anything really for me) I just try to listen to my body but I don’t let it make all my decisions if that makes sense… some days I will feel like gaming a couple hours before bed. Sometimes that is just the thing I need. Other days I’ll turn on my game and start to feel uncontent and then I ask myself hmm what is my body looking for.. and then I usually pick up a book or do a different activity. It’s easy to just get in the habit of overdoing something our body enjoys so it’s up to our mind to read the subtleties and make decisions. I end up reading a lot more than gaming even though I do really enjoy gaming. I have to be in that right mood or phase though so that I don’t end up feeling like I should have been doing something else.

Hi Sissel, Why are you so hard on yourself? I know everybody wants to grow and be there best selves, but you'll only get there when you practice some more self-compassion and don't beat yourself up for not going to the gym so much or doing all these other goals you're setting. Social media is hard and everyone is pushing each other to do everything everyday, but you're not a robot. You're a nice human being and you should be able to enjoy yourself, forgive yourself, set more realistic goals. You're growing everyday, little by little. Life's a journey and you only have one, try to enjoy it. 🧡

I think I know the struggle.. I also like to play video games and I was asking myself often: is my life too boring so I'm seeking something refreshing and fun, or are games and fun videos the reason why I can't find fulfillment in my daily tasks? And the more I play, the less I want to go to work and do shores. So I reduced the number of games on my phone and PC drastically. It helped. Now I feel better and more present during the day, even if I'm doing nothing or going really slow with my day, because I invest myself more in reality than in virtual reality. Now I consciously know, that there's no point in gaming, because there's no escape from real life. I love your videos and philosophical thoughts, which inspire me to reflect and think more deeply. I wish you a wonderful year.

I love that transition you make between scenes where the picture cuts to another one but the voiceover bleeds into the next scene and then the new scene has a few silent moments before its audio starts :D I dont know if i explained it in a way that makes sense, but it's the part at 2:23-2:27 ! I too had a bad period like yours, it was at the beginning of the pandemic while everyone was focusing on working hard or havin hobbies... I found myself in a habit of staying in bed and watching kdramas all day long, I didn't have the power nor the will to get up and study. Maybe it was some kind of depression, but I don't look at it in a bad way, cause I know that period in my life helped me slowing down and being gentle with myself and what I was truly feeling. I think it's pretty normal to not always be 100% productive and enter in a "bored" fase, so just enjoy it, you'll eventually find a way to naturally decrease your gaming time ahahah

Same here. Disappointed in myself 😀 High five, I guess? 🥴 I believe many people struggle with their productivity, especially at the beginning of a new year when you thrive to be highly motivated. The truth is: no one is perfect. We trip, we fall. But we get up again. And try again and again and again. I've found out that actually allowing yourself to trip and fall is part of learning more about yourself. My current issue is: wanting to work out more. I'd love to start running, but I find it extremely boring even though I love nature. But running at the same place over and over again? Even with music in my ears - its hard for me to bear. I love regular work outs at home. And driving somewhere for a change of scenery just to run? Feels like a waste of time for me. I love to go for walks though. So I've changed my goals to 1 to 3 walks a week. I purposely don't hold on to the number 3, because I know myself and if I feel overwhealmed by my own task I will probably not do it at all 😀 so with that open number I leave myself a choice and end up feeling less pressured and am more likely to do it. Regarding gaming: I am a gamer myself, but I have been since I was a kid. I've never felt 'addicted' to it. Maybe because I'm a social gamer (playing online with friends) and rarely play solo games. But when I do, I've found out it's best to - 1 or 2 hours into gaming - ask yourself: "Are you still as interested in the game as when you started playing it, or is that interest fading? Is your body starting to feel uncomfortable, does it ache in places? Does your mind feel exhausted in any way?" If the answer is yes - stop what you are doing and postpone it to another day. I love playing games, but in order to be able to look at it as a healthy hobby (because you are not doing nothing when you are gaming, you are constantly training your brain and reflexes) - not an addiction - it is necessary to limit your gaming time and, very importantly: move while you are doing it. Try to get up a lot, walk stairs, get a drink, take a productive break before continuing or right after finishing gaming for the day. No one likes to hear it, but the danger of thrombosis is a thing among gamers who love to play for hours, so keep that in mind always if you love your body 🙂 So while I'm in control of my gaming habits I do have other flaws, like: Binge watching a tv show. It doesn't happen very often, but once I get hooked on a tv series, I binge it. I'm never happy with myself when I do. But I know we'll find a way of managing our unhealthy habits y'all 🙂 Life is about learning. So why not start our new year by doing that? 💚

@Sisselab ❤❤❤I really love how true and real you are in your videos. Seeing you as a gamer, is so heartwarming since I have this kind of side activity too, at some point for me it is a mix of being a gamer and reading to many WEBTOON or manga or binge watching anime, it is my escape world and a safe space for me. The thing is sometimes it’s an escape so it means that I am kind of fleeing my true feelings instead of accepting them. But when it feel like a safe space it is because I feel hurt by the true world and need some kind of other world rest. I dunno if you understand what I am trying to say here but for me I feel that sometimes you feel better about your gaming habit if you identify why you are at it. And also it is sometimes really horribly addictive and hard to break the chain, for me sometimes to get to stop I wash my face and try something that does not involve a screen like cooking but while listening to a playlist of the game hahah. Or like someone said having an appointment or I sometimes just put an alarm clock at some point to see the time flying by, just like you do to get out of sleep! Please don’t be hard on you because what ever you do you are the best already !! Oh and Happy New Year ! ❤ ❤

There's absolutely no need to beat yourself up about your productivity. Gaming, watching movies, daydreaming... all these things can be productive as well. There's a reason why you gravitate towards games in times like this; maybe it's because they're soothing, or you feel the need to completely immerse yourself in a different life and story. Or they might also be a way to connect with your past self. In today's climate we're often made to feel that every action we take should be monetized or at least instrumentalized for a higher purpose like personal growth. But personal growth cannot happen without some form of stagnation. (Everyone who's ever watched a plant grow and lose its leaves to make room for new buds knows this.) P.S. I would LOVE to see more gaming content from you! I think most of us find it really relatable and it's a side of you that you rarely show. I'm not sure if you choose to hide it because it isn't very glamorous or aesthetic, but it's a major part of what makes you interesting and ✨not like other influencers ✨

I've been playing a lot and because the game is very demanding I've left behind other activities that make me feel better I guess. I'm currently trying to balance everything out, between the beginning of the year, work, trying to become a person who excercises at least every few days and my new hobbies like gaming. Cheers for that! Lol

The Last of Us Part 1-2 is soo good. Also, The Last of us HBOMax show starts 1/15/23, finally! Gaming is underrated. I feel it provides better brain function vs. scrolling on social media all day. With gaming, you think critically (or just think, lol), remember tasks, build things, use maps, understand directions, etc. Sissel, you work hard and always continue to be the best version of yourself. Look how far you have come from the years prior and all your accomplishments. Also, you are the type of gal that gets her shit done, so don't feel bad or disappointed in yourself for taking a day to do something enjoyable you don't always have to be doing something "productive" on off days/time. For balance, maybe split your days up with work/gaming. For example, I will work most of the day, 6-7am-5pm, lunch at a certain hour, have dinner by 6, and spend about 3 hours gaming in the evening (more on the weekends), but I don't let it cut into my nighttime routine before bed. On the weekends, my bf and I will game from like 7pm until 1-2am.

Something I heard recently that has to do with the whole “new year” feelings that really stuck with me is, if we look at nature, things don’t bloom until spring time. So why do we expect ourselves to change and start new so suddenly in January when it’s still winter time. Winter time is still a time for “hibernation” in a sense so expecting to make so many changes in such a slowed down period of our life seems so unrealistic. I think it’s much more realistic to take the first couple months of the year to reflect and set goals and come spring time start putting any changes and goals into action. Hopefully this can help ease your mind a little and know that change and growth is still possible in the coming months! 💖

I think we often categorize activities as either productive or not. Why would a full day of work be productive and a full day of gaming not? Is it the monetary aspect? I don’t think playing games is unproductive, even doing nothing isn’t unproductive bc it all is life and if we enjoy ourselves it shouldn’t matter if society deems it as productive or not. One of my hobbies is watching movies and shows I have lists with so many movies and I wanna watch them all, I admire the cinematography, the storytelling, I gather wisdom, joy and inspiration. Not at all unproductive. 💕 let’s be more gentle with ourselves life is to be enjoyed to the fullest. When my life is ending do I look back and think wow so happy I was productive? No I would look back on all the moments I laughed, cried, screamed had fun and will definitely think fuck the last of us 2 was incredible.

Learning that change is the biggest thing to be expected in life is part of being really mature. Yet it's also one of the hardest lessons of life to live with somehow. I've watched so many of your videos and really enjoy them. I appreciate your effort, professionalism and personal in nature you imbibe them all with! I've seen you touch upon a couple of things that are really a big interest in some that have watched at least for me and I'm guessing probably for a lot of people. You mentioned your early days of K-pop interest. So I know that you are probably well versed on the subject. I am very interested as an American citizen hearing more about the Korean take on what does the group BTS Translate to as far as a mid spectrum of Korean citizens. Jake has tattoos as do you and of course it was so controversial when JK got them. I noticed that JK has even taken his Korean flag tattoo and turned it into a snake recently. So I'd like if possible for you maybe to delve into Koreans and are reception of more and more people in their population getting tattoos. Also of course I love that BTS has brought to a bigger front the rule of gender fluidity Within the general human population and how it is really just not something that should be made a big deal of but rather that it should be just a thing just another part of Being Human. Also with gender fluidity comes in the subject of bisexuality and being gay. Something else I feel like BTS has supported and made clear stances on. You may not want to approach these subjects but I thought that there would be many people very interested in someone living in Korea reflecting on how BTS has brought some of these subjects even more so to the Forefront in the South Korean population and definitely within the global population as they have gained notoriety. I think personally and I believe it is not just me but that this has been a huge part of their appeal to the global population. Not only the fact that they are immensely talented and magnetic personalities and performances but that they also promote these subjects in a way that it becomes a non subject! I hope you understand what I mean. They just are doing a beautiful job of representing these subjects without questioning them without calling them out and by just being themselves. I also love how they called out in their early days the strict disciplined Society for youth in Korea and how they were expected to go by a formula and that they should break from it if they felt they wanted to. As an outsider I see BTS doing tremendous Mental Health bonuses for the people within the Korean population that have fallen under these fairly strict expected doctrines of society. I relish that they have done this without hesitation and from the get-go this is where they came from and what they wanted to do as a group. Thank goodness bang PD was in charge of these guys and gave them such incredible guidance. I hope you could do a in-depth video on the effect of BTS on all these subjects and how Korea is hopefully moving forward. At least I hope so. You could approach this for many different ways but I feel confident that if you tackle it you could do a good job. My fingers are crossed and I'm hoping to hear from you on this in the future! Looking forward to it! Happy New Year to you and Jake! May it bring you everything you dream and hope for!

Do you read people mind or something because this is just so relatable. I´m the type of person who gets addicted over a serie that´s why i never start a new one when i have studies or things to do because i know i won´t be able to stop. It happened recently with a kdrama (descendants of the sun) that i already had seen, but it´s so good that i end it up not doing an assigment until last minute. We set goals sometimes because everyone does, without thinking about if we really want to do that and it put us under pressure. For example a classic one, doing more exercise, i started the year doing yoga and when my period came i stopped and i feel i little bit guilty because of it, but that´s life. If i´m in pain i shouldn´t be doing what my body can´t, so yeah. I can relate.

I don't understand why anyone would expect themselves to change completely overnight based on something like the year changing. Everyone has their own rhythms, expecting to conform to a calendar is bizarre to me. I've built habits that I am proud of overtime (years and years) but I also go through periods where I don't do those things, often in winter, because my body or mind needs to rest.

As a game critic... I think balance does come into it, but if you think about it, we don't feel guilty about spending 11 hours reading a book in one day. Games -- TLOU2 in particular -- can offer us incredibly complex stories. Some of them have way more depth than other forms of art and storytelling. TLOU is a game that does pull you in for those long stints of playing because it is so affecting, and I think it's okay for that to happen; the immersion is a pretty necessary part of the experience. To get into Abby's shoes, to get into Ellie's. To go on the journey with them. That kind of focus is quite a special way to play a game imo -- I am also a freelancer, and I know people who have specifically taken a week off work to play TLOU, God of War, big titles like that. I just want to give you permission to enjoy the games, and enjoy the enjoyment too, when it comes to you
