41 years ago is hard to believe, but then that I'm turning 65 in the new year is hard to believe too! I miss Johnny's Tonight Show, as the show has never been as good since his departure. THANK YOU for bringing it back to life and have a great new year!

The routine about going over to the model of Times Square was partly down to viewers knowing in previous years when they did this, Johnny's New Year's Eve show wasn't live, and when they did "go over" to Times Square it was never live. This was a nice way of being truthful on this bit of the show I believe.

Inflation, no jobs, unemployment was high, Reagan wasn't great at his job, but he did surpass Jimmy Carter on getting American Iranian hostages home, no one in the middle class got big bucks jobs or wealthy, that's a myth. Times were hard. Reagan also cut VA benefits and caused our current homelessness because Reagan deemed big Pharma cured mental illnesses and closed federally subsidized mental health facilities across all 50 states. Hope this helps you understand 1982 and now. My pleasure. I turn 60 in April/ I witnessed it with fooked POTUS leadership in our country. God bless you for asking, ❤ u. Happy 2024.

This is a wonderful New Years gift. I grew up watching The Tonight Show in the 70s in Canada's far north in the Yukon. The cable system was weird there in Whitehorse, Yukon and comprised of what was seen 1 week earlier in Vancouver and Seattle shown on tape exactly 1 week later. This was before the days of satellite. As a kid, I used to get up out of bed around 11:35pm and sneak out to the TV and turn it on to watch (once the tube TV warmed up). Years later as an adult, I spent a week lining up for free tickets at the NBC studios in Burbank to see the show taped at 5:30pm and then going back to my hotel room to watch it at 11:30. It was the highlight of each night. I'm glad I grew up with this and remember it like it was yesterday. It's not like today's 500 channel TV universe. Everyone who was awake at night watched Johnny back in those days. Thanks for the memories....you older folks will remember.
