Saw rehearsals for Dick Clark's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest and Rita Ora!! I never thought I would be able to see them so close prior to NYE! We also saw some practice ball drops the day before New Year's Eve since we had a hotel room with a ball drop view!
We couldn't get enough of the observation decks in NYC so we went to Top of the Rock. There was a long line along the glass barricades to ride on top of the steel beam. If you're wondering, you do wear a seat belt and it looks relatively safe. However, we did not want to subject ourselves to yet another line. From the top of the Rockefeller Building, you can clearly see so many different landmarks including Central Park and Billionaire's Row. As we went out for dinner, we saw another dress rehearsal with Ryan and Rita.
On New Year's Eve, we wanted to find some fun activities to do. Guess where we went? Another observation deck! Looking up at the skyscrapers and sky decks in NYC, there are a few everyone knows by heart. They’ve been featured in movies, tv shows, high fashion ads and art pieces. But there’s one that stands out from the crowd. One that has a jutting outdoor terrace on the 100th floor. One that has a glass triangle on the floor looking down over 1,100 feet to the ground. One that has slanted glass barricades leaning over Manhattan. One that can easily be engulfed in fog and completely disappear. What is it you may ask? It’s the Edge Observation Deck at 30 Hudson Yards.
I saw it every morning from my bed at the Kimpton Hotel Eventi in Chelsea. I also saw it when I ventured to The Vessel and the Shops at Hudson Yards. It's a fairly short elevator ride to the top - it was cold and windy but it was an experience like no other. I was leaning on the slanted glass, sprawled out on the glass triangle, and climbed a flight of stairs on the sky deck to obtain an even better view of the city. If you’re in New York City, I would recommend visiting this spectacular attraction.
On New Year's Eve, Times Square is blocked off. The only people besides law enforcement who can access the area are those staying in hotels. We had a special key card for private/restricted access back to hotel. It seems like hotels have a variety of ways to prove you're residing with them - I saw people who had letters from different hotels.
This was my first time in NYC for NYE and I did not realize that there was a countdown every hour on the hour until the new year! I believe when the first bolus of confetti was dropped onto the crowd, there were three hours remaining. Also, access to the front of the ball drop is restricted. They do not let people crowd at the base of the building until approximately 30 minutes prior to midnight! It was exciting and the energy in NYC is incomparable. After most of the crowds dissipated, we ran down to take pictures with the confetti on the ground. Little did I know that we would not be able to easily make it back to the hotel. Regardless of your hotel in relation to Times Square, you will be rerouted to allow street sweepers and sanitation workers to begin cleaning. If you're ever in NYC for NYE, it's an amazing experience but be aware that it will be cold and you'll be doing a tremendous amount of walking!

I’m doing research about this hotel because I would like to book the room with a view of the ball! Did you just do it online or did you have to call? This was a great vlog and very informative!

Thank you so much for watching! That's the odd thing about this hotel. You can "book" a room with a view but if you want a prime view in your room, they'll actually ask you to put more money down at check-in. They have different views depending on what you want to see (e.g., the ball drop, the musicians performing on stage, etc.) Unfortunately, each room with a view has a high sticker tag on top of what you already paid. They don't give that information out until you actually check-in. I hope that helps! Regardless, it's a great hotel in the heart of Times Square with so many food options in and around the hotel. Not to mention the great view of the ball drop!
