The inductance feature is a very nice one to have as it allows one to dial in the arc characteristics when welding. It essentially controls the "arc on" time during the short circuit welding process. Going with the plus side allows one to lay down a bead that is more fluid and wet due to the extra arc on time. Conversely biasing the setting toward the negative side one can better adjust the arc and bead profile to be a little more stiff as when welding vertically or overhead.

I got a spool gun with my Lincoln that I have never used. I have never needed to weld aluminum yet but after watching this I may pull it out and try it on some scrap just to see how it works.
Man I have this welder and I am with ya. First time welding I thought, what the heck is it talking about? I am used to just speed and current. This is not easy to set up for each weld TBH and the instructions dont cover it. Love how it welds but 2 months in I am still super confused and just find myself guessing most things.
I got the 205D'S a few years ago. Between my old Lincoln setting chart, and a metric conversion chart I have been able to get around our mutual "old school" deficiencies. Restoring a 65 mustang, it has performed for me well. Now having the ability to work with aluminum as well, that's a plus. Appreciate your honest reviews, blessings to you.

I was looking for settings and you hit it right on. I really love the 205DS. I'm about to buy another just for aluminum because I don't want to have to switch out. Another point being very affordable. Honesty was the key for me in this one. Thanks.
I just got 205DS-B yesterday and ran a couple quick beads today. Very nice but I have a lot to learn about settings. You're video is great, the chart is starting to put tings in perspective. Will be emailing you in hopes you can sent it. Thanks for ayour video.
Thank you for putting this comparison together of these two machines. I just got a 205ds-B and have been very confused as to what the changes are...what features have been added and what has gone away. Another video talking about this machine specifics more in depth might be useful. Question: Does the new machine have any way to assign voltage and current based on metal thickness as did the original 205ds? Best regards.

Just got mine, great tutorial. Where did you get that chart ? its not in my manual or on their web site. Glad I didnt see this video before I got it because I would have got the MP200, I don't need it but I have an over spending problem Thanks again.
i have the same complaints with the 205d , i don't the metric system, its harder to get help from other welders because they always ask for my wire speed. They can't help me because i can't read the feed speed. trying to swap the feed roller is a pain, a big time waster. i'm done fighting with it, i plan on getting a primeweld 185.
I don't get the difference between the SPd and the rin settings. in the code of operations, they are both for feeder speed. when I adjust SPd it doesn't change the feeder speed but when I adjust the rin it changes it. However, changing to SPd seems to change how my fcaw weld handles. Can someone explain the difference? I use the Mig 205ds welder (the black and red one on the video).

Thanks for the reviews! I am looking at this B version against the 250 Pro. I have 220 in my garage but dig that you can do mobile work with the B. I don't plan on doing a bunch of heavy work, is there any reason to go for the Pro vs this B? Would love the MP200 at some point...
