2021 Yonex VCORE PRO is a huge improvement over 2019 version, and while Yonex markets this racket for advanced players, some of the improvements of 2021 version now open up this racket to a wider audience!
Pros:
- Excellent for hitting low balls especially on the backhand
- Improved control on the return of serve
- More stable than 2019 version
- Little bit more powerful than 2019 VCORE
- More spin than 2019 version
- Arm friendly because of extra dampening
Cons:
- Dampening could be too much for some
- Volleys demand clean technique
- Not as good for flat shots

Great review man, even without any extra weight this racket has made a night and day difference in my game, I hit flat mostly but sometimes hit top spin and it's just perfect for that!

Best review about the 97 Pro. I tested it against all the new Vcore and Ezone out there. And the conclusion hits it absolutely. Enough spin and power while the control was the main reason for me to switch to it. Ball pocketing is outstanding with this stick. Looking really forward to dail this stick right in to my needs. In combination with the Yonex poly tour pro this stick feels great. Looking forward to your poly toure Rev review. Great work. Keep on.

Really love this review! There’s many informations exactly I needed. Some of my friends think the thicker beam, lower stiffness, and the muted feeling make this racket doesn’t like a “classic” vcore pro 97. Still hesitated to get one.

Awesome review! Very detailed and right on the money about what's important to focus on when choosing a racket... I would really appreciate a comparison between vcore (97 & 98) and ezone models. I personally use the ezone 98 (2020) and find myself launching the ball quite often if I don't give it enough topspin. This makes me switch to a lesser flat swing and things start to fall apart. Thanks in advance! PS.: you say night and day between this and the RF but you don't specify why...

Thank you for the racket review. I am coming from the Wilson Pro Staff 97 v13 and was looking for a more arm friendly racket. I bought the VCPro 97 310 2021 and am very pleased with the flexibility of the racket. My only challenge is weighting the racket to the same specs as my Pro Staff’s. Like you, I put about 5 grommet holes of lead tape at 3 and 9. This wasn’t enough so I added the same amount at the butt of the racket. I needed more weight so I have added the same amount at 6 and in the throat. If this isn’t enough, I might move up to the D version.

Hi Lance, just saw your comment. I’m about to embark on weighting the VCP 97 2021. I also own the VCP97D but the the string bed does not offer much spin having experimented with various shaped polys. Would like to know what you settled on in terms of weight, strings and tension on your VCP97 2021 👍

I watched this video again and paid close attention to the amount of weight that was added to his 2019 VCP 97 310g, and saw he did the same to the 2021. I’m currently on the fence with this racket having demoed it for a week now. I did a ‘blind’ purchase the VCP 97 D 2021, but found this quite sluggish, especially on serves, so returned it. Groundstrokes we’re great though, and am thinking that for me the 97D may have been a better option as no weight needs to be added to that racket, coming from an RF97A v11. I’m going to persevere with my PS97 v13 for now, and see how it goes. Update 27/11/2022: went back to the VCP97D but am also going to re-visit the VCP 97 2021 and experiment adding weight in the head and handle to bring up the swing weight and static weight closer to my VCP97D. I find I am lacking spin from the VCP97D 18x20 string bed having tried the usual suspects of Hyper-G, Confidential and even hybrids. Update:18/05/2023 The VCP97D is now gone and solely play with the VCP97 310g with weight at 3 and 9 totalling 4 grams and 4 grams in the handle as counterbalance. Experimented with strings at various tensions but finding Confidential 1.25mm at 50lbs has been working well and also a hybrid using poly tour pro yellow in the crosses. Now trying Head Hawk in the crosses in one one of my VCP97 310g as my stringer tells me that this will last longer than the Poly Tour Pro 🤞 UPDATE: 19/06/2023 Now playing this racket with just 4 grams in the handle. Weight at 3 and 9 not needed. Enough power and stability already there. Trying Solinco Tour Bite Soft at 52lbs. Plays great 👍

5:10 The low twist weight of the VCP has pros and cons. You are right, the racquet is less stable when you do not hit in the center, on the other hand, a lower twist weight correlates with more maneuverability and spin. The lower the twist weight, the more demanding the racquet.

Am playing with extreme tour, 2g added to bump the sw to 320s, often find it under powered. Tried vcore pro 97 with same confidential @52, this thing stock packs enough power for my balls to land on the baselines. Idk if i got an over spec, but this thing is fast in the air too, good spin, accuracy and power. More than the extreme tour and very comfortable, surprisingly not as muted as other yonexes. I think string plays an important factor for this frame. All in all am switching to this frame.

This is a great video. Loved the parts about groundstrokes and how you felt constructing points. I also currently the 2019 Vcore pro 310 with lead at 9, 3 because of the same reasons you were talking about with the racket feeling unstable. I've also noticed that my 2 handed backhand needs to be perfect and just re-directing balls doesn't work with the 2019 VCore Pro. Is the 2021 VCore Pro more forgiving for in terms of more defensive, more redirecting hits or is this more of a need a full swing all the time like the 2019 VCore Pro?
@andreysmirnov7461
@andreysmirnov7461 2 года назад
When redirecting i was thinking more of offense than defense. It somehow has a little bit more plow through effect than 2019, and possible because of extra flex it is easier to change direction of the ball aggressively

At 22 minutes in, you explain that you added weight more to the top of this model to increase the snap on your serve. This is confusing, because I would imagine this would decrease the racquet head speed, and diminish “snap”…Of course it would increase swing weight, and your ground strokes would be heavier, but on the serve, doesn’t adding weight at the head slow you down? Any kick or slice would noticeably be impacted, I would think. Thanks for your video

@andreysmirnov7461
@andreysmirnov7461 2 года назад
Thanks, Alec! Its a hard question to answer. In my opinion, string should not be picked to counteract the muted feel because string is the only thing that touches the ball therefore its important to pick it based on playability rather than "feedback". I think you kind of get used to the muted feel of the racket over time anyway

@bsinghgill
@bsinghgill Год назад
@Bernardo, I used to play with the VCP97D and that frame needs weight in the handle to counterbalance it’s head heaviness making it feel less sluggish, but pushes the static weight above 350g strung. I ended up selling mine because it is a very demanding racket unless you’re an advanced player. I tried many different string combinations to help generate more spin but gave up and stepped down to the VCP97 310g and added weight at 3 and 9 totalling 4 grams, with 4 grams in the handle as counterweight. Static weight is circa 345g. This suits my game a bit more than the VCP97D did and I can always play around with more weight if needed. The only knock I have with the VCP97 310g is the low swing weight, but weight at 12 can solve that 👍

@Andrew Smriov, what i quoted above are the absolute weights of the 97 and 97D. The swing weights are calibrated as 318g and 330g. Given you added 16g to the 2019 version, it would appear that the 97D would be pre-assembled to be perfectly suited. what do you think? Also a question: If one adds say 8g at 9-3 clock positions to a racket, does that translate in about an 8g increase in swing weight? Or is there some average factor one applies to that 8g? what is the factor if 8g added at 9-3 or 10-2, or at 12 O'clock. Any rough factor that can be used to translate into swing weight? Adding weight is done not to make a racket heavier but to tweak its properties and tune it a little bit. For example 2019 version is unstable so adding weight at 9 and 3 makes it perfect. Right now i still added 8g to my 2021 VCORE but this time more to like 10 and 1 so a little less weight but more forward biased. That helps me with this specific version because i no longer need as much stability. I tried the H and D versions of 2021 too, i really liked the D and highly considered getting that instead but i honestly could not figure out which one is better for me in the end so i just sticked with 310. The D version was more pleasant to hit very big but lacks spin and pocketing. H version is just too heavy

great review thanks. did you think about the ycore pro 97D that is slightly heavier. 340g vs 326g.or is that too heavy? question the 97D says the swing weight is 330g vs 318 for the 97, so how much heavier is than on the arm and for maneuverability? thanks in advance
@ostrich9999
@ostrich9999 2 года назад
Thanks in advance.

I been using the vcore pro 97 2017 (blue one) and need to buy a new one. My only nock on that racket is that it lacks a little bit of power (even with led). I am considering the ezone or vcore 98 but you made me think that maybe the new version of the Vcore pro can be perfect. I´m looking for more easy depth and more power on "put away balls".
@andreysmirnov7461

never played with 2017 but 2021 feels more powerful than 2019. Also, its much easier to get depth on the balls with 2021 and in the video i provided some of the stats that showed that my average ball depth is higher with 2021 VCORE 97. As far as power to put away balls, i think thats not exactly the correct way to think about it. You should be putting balls away by taking time away from your opponent to get to them instead of hitting 200mph forehands from the baseline :)

I'm looking for a frame that plays with the control of the Pro Staff 97 but offers a bit more pop and comfort as I've been dealing with some mild tennis elbow lately.
