RE# Comments made about this reporter. To put things into perspective a little, this Aussie reporter had just started this low budget 1977 teenage music program. It's far from 60 minutes stuff. Let alone not having ready to hand info of the world as we do today to give a more accurate report. He was obviously directing the interview towards an audience that would be interested. Obviously if your a long time old New Yorker watching this now it would easy to look at it and say "WTF". But as an Aussie watching this I thought it was quite entertaining, so because I love the 1970's it was well worth uploading. With that said if a New Yorker came to Oz in 1977 and did a similar interview, a few Aussies would of responded the same. Thanks for watching New Yorkers and g'day from Australia😁👍Cheers Gezza

In 1977 , when I was a senior in high school, a friend and I walked from the world trade center. Went to to the top. Then walked to to the empire state building and went to to the top where I threw a paper airplane off the roof. Had a a lot of energy back then.

I rember my grand pop taking me & sis into the city in his car on the ferry. Quite exsighing. We walked around , Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, when you could look out of the crown, spiral staircase walk up, single file. Omg. Then to lunch at the automat. Elephant's trunk's serving u cholate milk, fantastic. Probably 1956 or so N.Y.. Now it looks like Tokyo.

@@simoncarlile1965 The 1970's also led to the further demoralization of America (and other countries perhaps) and is at least part of the reason why we are currently experiencing the global chastisement that is occurring and will get much worse. The party is over and now its time to pay for these wicked times. Magic is Satanic. Not trying to upset you Simon, just being honest about why the world is the way that it currently is and why it is going to get a lot worse, especially when deathvaxxed are re-exposed to the illness that they were deathvaxxed for as well as the flu. @gothatway09 Well, but it's logical that you would be more into the 80s/90s since you grew up then. I was born in 1978. So my childhood was mainly in the 80s and my teenage years in the 90s. Of course there was still some influence from the 70s and I like and can watch some stuff from the 70s, but to some things from the 70s I also can't really relate. It's like somebody in their early 20s now will probably also not have much relation to the 90s when they were born, but maybe was influenced and can relate to some things from then.

For context as to what was in the minds of these people - Almost all of the middle aged people you see walking the streets were born between 1935 and 1949 - An 8-year old would have born in 1969 - The US was segregated only 13 years prior - The Year 2020 is as far to 1977 as 1934 is to 1977 - No one you see in this video has ever heard of the word "Nintendo", and they won't hear about it for the next 8 years. - The Atari was released two months after this film was taken - China was a third world country, with an average income of $185 per year. - If you were 45 years old in this film, you would have been born during the great depression, and would have been 13 years old when the atomic bomb was used on Japan. - Man first landed on the moon 8 years prior to this film. That would feel the same to them as we would feel if man landed on the moon in 2012. - If you were 75 years old in this film, your grandparents would have lived through the civil war and the ending of slavery. You would have seen the titanic sinking in the newspapers when you were 10 years old, and you would have been only 12 years old when world war 1 began. You would have been 28 years old when you saw the Empire State Building slowly grow taller over the next 13 months. - No one in this film knows anything about Star Wars, but they will when they watch it 2 days after this film was taken. (on May 25, 1977)

No needed iphone X or a gaming PC. just a pager and a pc , which could not do many things. people around with cellphones but not glued on Iphones and tablets. they moved their heads around , exploring an amazing city. but why? why did we destroy ourselves humans? we do not want to do it! I turn my tv on in winter . watching Home Alone And Just falling in deep imagination of nostalgic past 90's. I am nearly cry sometimes. Look at all those people walking down that busy New York street. Police officers, business people, regular every day joes going to and fro, homeless bums. Each and every one of them with imperfections, perceived perfections by others, hopes, faults, dreams, thoughts, aspirations, friends, lovers, enemies, and families; all living beings with beginnings, middles, and eventual ends. Now think about this short film and the people in it that you can see. Then start to consider buildings you see and the offices filled with even more people. Then consider the amount of people in the world. Consider how many millions of billions of times the above has happened and will continue to happen. Kind of wild, isn’t it? Anyway, I wonder what happened to them all?

I'm 36 years old and you know I love watching all these old videos of New York City even though I was born in Texas in 1986 I was raised in this part of the country the tri-state area and I really really love New York City and I love New Jersey I love to see old pictures videos of both New York and New Jersey but New York City most of all because of all the culture and all the things that were going on in the 70s 80s even the 60s I'll tell you my favorite thing is that at this time the mafia was around and had total control of nyc. It's just one of those things that's on my mind because I'm also a biig Mafia history enthusiast and I see this video and all I can think of is that all these different mafia families were just walking around doing all these things and all these like you know big mob gangster name characters were just alive at these times it's just kind of blows my mind

I was a teenager when I first visited NYC in the 70’s. It was a strange time, the city’s infrastructure was declining and crime rising but as a visitor I absolutely loved it. Today it’s a totally different place, a pale shadow of its former vibrant, exciting place. RIP NYC so glad I knew you in those unforgettable times.

Everyone in the comments is looking back on that time with rose colored glasses. That was a really shitty time in NYC. Crime was much higher, the city was bankrupt, Abe Beame was a terrible mayor, the subways were terrible, people were smoking everywhere, and a lot of areas that are now safe and clean were dangerous and looked like hell on earth. But hey, the music was cool! Here's what it was actually like. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rHXAYddPLsM.html

Across the river in Brooklyn is where I grew up . But I was born there , on the island of Manhattan , some nineteen years before this film was made . So I heard " sharks " and " kangaroos " . Well , those kids knew a lot more about Australia than I did then , I'm sorry to say . I doubt if even I could find it - Australia - on a map then ! A neat little stroll down the lane of nostalgia , this video !

Private enterprise and large monolith companies were just fine then. The city coffers needed money for municipal infrastructure projects which, given the population and age of the city and its roads, bridges, tunnels and subways alone, were -- and still are -- overwhelming.

jahwangful Its typical 70s fashion. This is how people dressed back then in my country Bulgaria. Even in the 60s they used to dress in a similar way. The 1980s was all about dressing like the disco divas, Miami Vice, clips of Michael Jackson and Glam rock groups. Totally different. The 90s were a decline of fashion here

Yeh it's "what do they know about Australia". Rage is an Australian music show on ABC. It still has exactly the same splash screen even today. Though by the time I was watching Rage in the 90s it was just a music show (Recovery on after Rage would sometimes have segments like this).
