Beating the Nationals means little. As much as I like Nido, I 'd go with Torrens. The relievers can't continue to give games away. Let's see how they play against the better teams. I'm anxious to see how the Stearns navigates up to the trade deadline.

Iglesias definitely has been a spark. I notice he woke up the offense. For some reason, the one team the Mets seem to play well against throughout the years is the Phillies believe it or not. They usually keep Harper in check. I know they beat us last time, but honestly, the Mets beat themselves in that series. Braves usually own the Mets, Mets own the Phillies, and the Phillies own the Braves. I wouldn't be surprised if they sweep in London.

Contend or sell?? That's an easy answer for a very specific reason. Id rather see them contend than sell. Unfortunately....the reason i would rather see them contend is because they have absolutely no recent track record of obtaining quality talent that can make them much better at the big league level. It wouldn't shock me if they sold off and got another group of prospects that scuffle back and forth between Syracuse and Queens. Where is the big name thats tearing it up down on the farm???? We hear great things about promising players....but where are they????

You have to wait and be patient if you want the Mets to get a WS. Selling makes sense. Buying would be a Wilpon move and keep them a .500 team at best. Not good.

I'd like to see them compete. The team needs playoff experience if we're going to make a serious run next year. I'd also like to see them hold onto JD, he has hitting experience that can be shared with the rest of the team. I'd also like to see them keep Torrens over Nido. I like Nido, but sending the message that veteran status means little will go a long way.

I want to see these guys compete but I’m not opposed to selling if the writing is on the wall and good deals are on the board. I’m a penguins fan and they were written off at the trade deadline after trading away their best complementary player. After some punishing losses, they became red hot and made the race to last wild card spot so exciting. Sure they came a few wins short but the ride was so much fun and entertaining

Buying or selling is a tough one. Given the Mets' stated goal of becoming a sustainably successful organization, they should sell; while the farm is improved, it could still be stronger. On the other hand, I think another sell-off year like 2023 would make it all but impossible for the team to sign Soto. Ideally, I'd like to see Stearns try and thread the needle of staying in the hunt while selling off a select few pieces like Martinez, but avoiding a fire sale.

Like you said the other day, bullpen is an issue, can you sell Martinez, and maybe Taylor (let DJ stewart, Vientos and Alverez split DH ABs) and get some Bullpen Depth

Option Torrens because he has options. You always use options first. When Alvarez comes back, it doesn't matter too much who is the backup C.

One reason I hate the WC/playoff structure now. False hope. Yes they have a month to figure it out but they are 3.5 games out of the wild card spot but are also the 3rd worst record in the NL. They have to jump a whole lotta mediocre teams…I tend to think over 1/3 of the way through the season that they’ve showed us what they are. If you can continue what they did with trades last year then I’d say do it. If they catch fire this month then a lot of trade values increase too. They shot their shot over the previous couple years and it didn’t work. Not suggesting selling the season but I presume they have a longer term plan in place and if they have pieces to trade that helps that vision then so be it.

Mets can’t win without Diaz being dominant, if he’s on the active roster. If he’s not the same guy, they don’t have a stopper. It matters. If Diaz finds himself out of the ninth inning slot, I’d love to see Nunez have a crack at it. What an arm.

Define contend. Are we talking about being in the race in September? Qualifying as a wild card? If the Mets were 1 or. 2 players away from being World Series contenders, and we were at the winter meetings, I'd say get out the checkbook. But we all know that this isn't the case. I guess we learned nothing from the 2023 debacle. If the Mets had given Blake Snell the farm you fans would be whining about yet another Scherzer/Verlander debacle. Even if by some miracle they made the playoffs, do you really feel they can beat the Phillies, the Braves, or the Dodgers? We're not even three months into the rebuild, and people are already looking for shortcuts. The only way this team can acquire any significant additions is through trade. Other than Alonzo, Severino, and Martinez, do the Mets even have anything to offer? Doesn't moving Severino leave an even larger hole in this rotation? There are not a lot of moves that make sense for this club right now unless they can find a team even dumber than they've been in recent years.

Here’s the deal. The Mets bullpen has been atrocious lately. When the Mets get going the pitching falters especially blowing leads. When the bats were not working the pitching was on a role. There is no consistency and look it’s easy to be excited after sweeping the Nats. But for me I sell Pete Alonso high same with Lindor, Nimmo and McNeil.

The Mets should still trade the rentals except Pete and let the kids play. If they make it to the postseason it should be base on the talent that are already in house and Sterns getting some under the radar trades that cost nothing but help the Mets like Torrens 💯

Why can't the Mets get to a couple games over .500 with aggressive AAA+ players and 2 or 3 minor league pitchers who deserve the ball? Why not give them a chance with a huge sell off, which will make the farm system awesome? I think it would be exciting to watch them!

Who knows what will happen. If they are 500 or a few games over at the deadline then I would keep the guys on expiring contracts and see what happens, you never know look at the diamondbacks last year.

It makes sense for the Mets to sell no matter what and stock the farm system with as many good prospects as possible. Time to walk away from these veterans. Stop your machinations of winning anything this year. It doesn't make sense for the future and protecting WS chances.

The fact that a run like that would put them squarely back in Wild Card contention is crazy. The Mets have been so bad this year, but one good run and they’re right in it.

I see a Mets team that can beat a LHP. Until they get some left hand bats, RHPs are still going to be challenging. Stewart, McNeil, Baty and Nimmo have struggled. Nimmo looks better recently. Option Stewart for Gamel. Keep McNeil on the bench. DFA Taylor and bring Baty back to platoon with Iglesias.

Sellers still makes sense. Mets have a 11-12 starting pitchers. Trade Severino, Manaea, and Quintana. Scott, Butto, Lucchesi are ready now. Tidwell and Sproat are close. Senga will return.

Don’t be fooled starting pitcher is like a QB in yhe NFL teams will always overpay. Best thing is for Alonso and Martinez is to get hot have decent numbers at the trade deadline and then trade them same for Marte and get he relievers

Lets keep it real as Mets fans..... reality says this team sucks.....what good team loses 6 times with a lead going to the 9th inning in one month?? Its disgusting....but the Mets accomplished this horrendous statistic. On the other hand..... can they play any worse than they have and still only stand 3.5 games behind a playoff spot?? As disgusting as they have been....the truth is that they really should be contending for a playoff spor. Why?? Because the American league is better than the National League and other than a depleted Atlanta squad nobody is better than a .500 team in the playoff race regarding wild cards.

Yeah, 3.5 games out chasing one team is one thing but if you have 8 teams in front of you for 2 wild card spots is quite another.(Atlanta should and will take the first wild card). Realistically, if you're 3.5 games out with that many teams in front of you, it's equivalent to being out 7 or 8 games chasing one team. Even with a win, it becomes almost impossible to gain a game on everyone in front of you. But if you lose, you'll certainly lose ground. 3.5 games may sound good, but it's going to be an uphill battle.

See that first line about reality is very similar to the last 3 Junes to the Mets where you see the most failure from that team. This team may have 20+ wins this month, may suck in July maybe undefeated in August...all I'm saying is this is not those teams.

@@cutycatgo7 I understand that but there are about 100 games left and they will face many of those teams face to face..... therefore it's way too early to identify with your thoughts.....if this was the all star break now then I could agree with your logic.... although even then I'm not sure that the last wildcard will have more than a game or two better than a .500 record. The NL is weaker than normal and it may well stay that way. Do you really believe the Cubs or Padres are too good to beat out?? Obviously the Mets will have to step up their game but if you look at things rationally there's not much keeping them from making a run of it. They've played..... quite honestly....as poorly as possible this far. I'm not suggesting they will get a wildcard because I didn't anticipate them being a playoff team this year when the season began. I also didn't expect them to play this poorly by blowing so many games and yet stay within range because the rest of the league is simply BAD.

The misery endured during the many down years make the great years even more meaningful. I watched them play garbage baseball with garbage players in the mid to late 70s and early 80s every year.,....but my greatest memory was the 1986 World Series.

Look at my previous comments, I've been right along. I said, "Stop using last year ( Buck's) lineups. Stop using Mcneil in the 4 spot. Stick him at the end of the lineup. Move Lindor from 3 spot. Get rid of Wendell and Short. Start Vientos over the chosen one, the Golden Boy Batey. Put Nimo in the 3 hole. Here are my new proposals... if the Mets can't work out a deal with Alonso by the trade line, then move him and Mcneil in a package for some prospects, and relievers . Have Batey be the utility player. Keep JD, Bader, and Sevy, and let's go Mets.

This team is capable, we have a great FA pool next winter. I don’t like selling guys I’ve been rooting for for so long, I’m a loyalist and want to see them succeed. Let's face it. If the METS were to go five to seven games over .500, STEARNS will still sell because McNEIL'S salary, NIMMO'S and ALONSO'S future salary go against STEARNS' MINI MARKET/ MONEY BALL PHILOSOPHY.

That could not be further from the truth. First of all, trading McNeil would be a big market thing to do, because the only way it happens is if you eat down his contract in a way that would be impossible in a small market. And just because he worked (and excelled) in a small market, does not mean he wants to operate in that way.
