My family and I went picnicking and swimming there along with camping. that was more than 40 years ago. There was only one trail around the two lakes. So much change in in those 40 years. Nice to see. Thanks for sharing.

Always a Thumb's Up for all of your videos, Rick!! I finally figured out that Akela is a Roosevelt breed.. bark softly, and carry a big stick!!

Thanks 👍 But I don't think he barks softly. When we get deliveries, my neighbors know! Thanks for the comment Pete

I live a few miles away and spend a lot of time hiking the trails at Green Lakes. Love the park but it does get crowded, especially the campgrounds. The tick situation hasn't changed at all after several years of sharpshooters thinning the deer herd. The Erie Canal is just as bad as far as that goes (along with the rest of the state).
@GoingNoWhereFast
@GoingNoWhereFast 10 месяцев назад
Ya, I suspected so. The ticks really get their start on the squirrels, chipmunks, and small animals before the adults start climbing onto deer. Really need a lot more owls, hawks, and snakes !

Congratulations - father/father-in-law! Thanks for all the parts of the video. Don’t think I have ever seen some of those fungi. Akela looked so proud carrying that extra long limbo stick.

We liked Green Lakes but it's hard to get an electric site. We only got in because it was during the covid time. Looking forward to seeing your video on Ives Run. It is another campground that requires you plan ahead to stay on the weekend. Even when the have a site that only available for just one night you can't reserve it for less than two nights. Therefore empty sites go unused.
@GoingNoWhereFast
@GoingNoWhereFast 10 месяцев назад
Ya, That's an absolutely ridiculous rule. I see that and I just get so mad. I'm more often than not a one night camper traveling!! They don't want travelers, they want long term campers!! Stupid!! Ives is next week! Thanks for the comment!

I read that although they are called deer ticks it's believed that mice are the culprits spreading lime disease.
@GoingNoWhereFast
@GoingNoWhereFast 10 месяцев назад
True. The ticks go through 4 phases. Egg, Larve, Nymph, and adult. The larve almost exclusively feed on small mammals. They hatch from eggs in the leaf litter and immediately feed on small critters. Nymphs may crawl around and get on dogs and larger mammals, But usually its adults that climb up taller plants and up legs and arms of larger mammals. So best way to reduce ticks is hawks, owls, and snakes.

Green Lakes is on my list for next year!! I’ll have to rent a kayak because they won’t allow mine the water since it’s heavily protected. I won’t be staying long because of what you mentioned…..sites are so close! That’s one thing I don’t really care for.

Ya, and the pines Bathroom is new, while the rolling hills is like 1960. So pick the pines area if you make a reservation.

Not in the next 2 years. Heading west and north. Up into Michigan and Minnesota. Possibly Montana. But Green Lakes is really a family fun camp and big resource for locals.

Just reserveamerica and recreation.gov. All the others are AD hogs or membership

😊Green Lakes is 170 feet deep and Round Lake is 180 feet.
@GoingNoWhereFast
@GoingNoWhereFast День назад
@@kevnjeanne I don't think so, When I was in 3rd grade they told us they go all the down to the center of the earth!! Where sea monsters and creatures live. So they keep it a secret!! And actually, there are Layers in the lake where the difference bacteria have developed distinct eco-clims. We sampled some of these when I was in College. And the last thing is the "bottom" is a silt sediment that gets progressively denser as you go through it. The first 30 ft you could actually swim through. They believe that sediment layer is over 150ft deep. I believe it goes to china!!

The topic of "more needs to be done" is an interesting one. Generations and generations and generations of people who camp and introduced their family to camping who now own RV's etc. All at campgrounds that've been around for 50+ years. Same can be side about hiking on trails that've been around for even longer. Campgrounds aren't going to close spaces for much needed revenue. What's the solution? No idea and it won't be solved in a youtube comments section.
@GoingNoWhereFast
@GoingNoWhereFast 10 месяцев назад
Very true. But you would be surprised who reads these comments and watches the video and they take them as customer feedback. Some of the older parks and campground know they need to upgrade or just do more upkeep, and seeing these comments and videos on their facilities gives them evidence to go to the higher ups and say we need more money to fix stuff. So it isn't just out in outer space for no one to hear.

No one ever mentions the cabins when doing camping overviews of Green Lakes. The cabins are a bargain at $450 a week and are widely separated, very new inside and ridiculously spacious. Also you will get the privacy you won’t get in any of the camping loops. The trick to reserving one is to be flexible in your vacation dates and keep targeting the 9 month window, be willing to reserve Sunday to Sunday or some other weird span. Early June seems a little easier to get reservations.
@GoingNoWhereFast
@GoingNoWhereFast 2 месяца назад
Ya. I don’t think they have bathrooms though!? I’ve never seen one inside.
