New York University (NYU) has changed its guidelines around hate speech and harassment to include the criticism of Zionism as a discriminatory act. The new measure places anyone who identifies as a “Zionist” under the category of a protected class, which shields the group from being subject to “discriminatory comments”.
Pro-Palestinian groups responded to the news with alarm, saying that the new guidelines effectively equate Zionism with Judaism and will have a chilling effect on the ability of students and faculty to be able to protest against Israel’s treatment of Palestinians.

Good question, i sure hope so. Protected Classes were never meant to provide cover for political ideologies or their adherents. If the government can pick and choose which ideologies are "protected classes", then it shields them from criticism or whatever is deemed "Discriminatory comments". If Notzees were a protected class, then anyone saying that they have no place in society or politics, could face charges. Obviously that's a clear 1st amendment violation.

criticism directed at an ideology cannot be discrimination, which by definition is about treatment and/or consideration of individuals or groups… showing the limitations of an ideology doesn't necessarily implies something about the personality or the character of those who adhere to it, nor about how they are or should be treated or considered… as long as it remains about the ideology, then such criticism is not only acceptable, but the possibility of expressing this legitimate criticism must be duly protected in order to avoid eventual abuses stemming from the ideology in question…
