I ride the Los Angeles Metro Expo Line (Line E) for the first time as a Native New Yorker. I thought the train was very efficient, but the announcements could have been clearer.

Culver city Station used to be a huge parking lot. Now its an office building, residential apartments, a hotel and green common space with underground parking. The next station over is LA Cienega station with hundreds of new apartments under construction with retail below, offices, and large office building on other side. There are a lot of development potential along metro expo line to create communities walking distance to transit, shops and eateries around. Office buildings, too. A lot of metro stations are starting to build more around existing stations.

Expo line is one of the best and newest lines in the Metro system. Can go from Downtown to Santa Monica in about an hour. And it's mostly elevated so you can get some nice views too.

At 5:50 you see uniform fare inspector and metro police at opposite train door. Then at 7:45, you see two uniform inspectors writing stuff. More likely to find them on above ground rail because they have more non turnstiles versus subways which all have turnstiles. Subways you see them at exits and they check you as you exit like union Station, 7th metro, and Hollywood Highland in past years. LA metro is a county wide agency and county of LA sheriff's office used to be in charge in past years but they were so expensive
@Gemashke
@Gemashke 2 года назад
Those are LAPD Transit Services Division police officers. Fare inspectors are employed by the LA County MTA ("Metro") and are unarmed with the word "Metro" or "Metro Fare Inspector." When the L.A. County Sheriff's Dept had all of L.A. County, Fare Inspectors wore white shirts and green pants. COVID has reduced train ridership by 70% unfortunately. My guess is that the Fare Inspectors are on a reduced rotation or have been reassigned or furloughed until we are out of this mess.
@hansonel
@hansonel 2 года назад
When I visited LA and rode the Metro I was suprised when I saw fare inspectors making the rounds but many cities in Europe have them too. Not sure if other American subway systems have them since I've never seen them on the NYC subway or on the Chicago L system

More like wider than AnsaldoBreda LRVs. They also operate wide KinkiSharyo LRVs on the Gold Line plus Blue and Green Lines as well. And recently they were testing AnsaldoBreda cars on the E Line for the upcoming Regional Connector which will connect Expo and Blue tracks to the Gold tracks

@danielleporter1829
@danielleporter1829 2 года назад
@@marycad1160 A city not having enough affordable housing isn't mutually exclusive to L.A. Did hear though a couple of weeks ago that the City Council did approve an ordinance for a call for developers to build more affordable housing units. And I remember reading last year about the city buying and rehabbing old apt buildings and families transitioning out of homelessness getting to live in those apartments. If I remember correctly, the frist units that tenants got keys to were in the San Fernando Valley. Good steps.
