Why does New Zealand want to prevent the use of Māori language? They should help to preserve the language and culture for these people. I think treating indigenous people with respect and dignity will actually help to resolve any conflicts so that eventually all can live in peace together. Making policies that will in turn create resentment will not solve any issues.

There is no Maori word for Sovereignty so in place the word Governance was used in the Maori treaty version. Partnership is not mentioned in any Document. Also in 1840 Britain did form partnerships with native people. No other people have claimed in World that they have a partnership only Maori. Also Maori talk of Colonisation but when Polynesians arrived in the Pacific it was already Peopled by the Lapita people. They are not first nation to the Pacific. My great great grandmother was full Maori. I do not want to be "Maori" because this is 2024 and Maori are stuck in a Feudal system. Instead of a Chief we have committees ruling us. Maori socialism has never worked. The wealth stays at the top. 5000 people owning one piece of land does not work. The Maori language is being forced on us through our national media...i was never asked if I want to speak Maori. A language is handed down by parents teaching them that language in the home. If us Maori want better health we should eat better and lead more healthier life styles. If we want better lives we should stop blaming the government and take self responsibility and stop abusing our families. You don''t sign a treaty if you win the war. Maori should have won the war. I want NZ to move into the future as one people and be part of the whole world. Any one and all people in NZ can do well if they work, learn skills and have goals they work towards. Blaming the past and squabbling over the definition of a "treaty" written in the 1800"s for where we are now is not conducive for any new Zealander. In so many ways NZ is a joke!
