No, that's not what's happening at all. International law stipulates that with treaties like Te Tiriti, the indigenous language version is the one that is to be recognized, and in Te Tiriti Maori never seceded sovereignty, so realistically 50% of parliament should be made up of Maori seats. Seymour and Luxon are trying to dishonour tangata te tiriti's end of the deal, and as tangata te tiriti myself, I find that disgusting. We need to honour what the Crown signed us up for and give Maori the 50% of power that Te Tiriti ensures. Not try to destroy Te Tiriti altogether like they're trying to do.

But then the Government changes their mind without consultation or discussion and does something else?? Does that then mean that the established grievance isnt then settles and breaks down. @aoteataniwha6967 the Waitangi tribunal ...a unique court set up specifically to deal with all grievances have allowef Maori years and years to lodge any claims and pursue restitution. Nearly 50yrs in fact. There is nothing the govt can do to overturn or change the court decisions. It has no jurisdiction . So I don't know what you're talking about .... and I suspect strongly you don't either.

For some reason my original reply is not showing anymore... I provided proof of my claim and everything... Looks like ill just have to type it again... The issue here is not that Maori have decided to go in for another dig. The issue here is that this Government has decided to change the terms of the agreement after the discussion has been finalized and the paperwork signed. Its true, 50 years of trying to figure this out has happened, but this hasnt just been an issue for only the last 50 years though has it??? The Treaty hasnt just been around for that long and even the Queen during her last visit acknowledge the fact that the crown has not lived up to its side of said agreement. Fast forward to today, Luxon and his dogs have begun drafting a bill to remove "Maori" from the agreement and instead change it to "New Zealanders". He has even gone on to acknowledge this proposed bill and says that he will support it through to its first reading and has not confirmed that he will NOT support it through to further readings in the house. David Seymour has come out and said that he is the one who has drafted it, big surprise there... This Bill flies in the face of the Treaty. Flies in the face of what has been agreed upon and changes the nature of all past, present and future discussions by Maori Sovereignty as the Native peoples of this country!!! Like hell we will take this laying down!!! So we are not only fighting this in the Waitangi Tribunal which has limited power in what it can dictate to the government, but have also taken this to the High Court which can rule change almost immediately and trust me... We have some of the best Treaty Lawyers (yup thats a thing) in the nation... Please dont make me provide evidence to this fact... Unless you have been living under a rock this whole time, the leak, the video of Luxon and Seymour acknowledging this Bill, The iwi taking this to the high court is all over the news... @aoteataniwha6967 the treaty is not the same thing as the tribunal to deal with claims. The govt can change the law. The judiciary enact it. The parliament is empowered by the people to be able to change the law.... and the people just spoke... Now if the change in law means anything already decided by the tribunal has to be revisited.... you'd have a point. But they're not. They couldn't in fact do this. And in any case the whole point was to bring the claims to an end. Not encourage an extended period of further work. At no point have I made any assumption about your education or ethnicity. Nor do I share your patronizing assumptions in general about your own ethnic group. But the people have voted for a course correction here. It is one I think over due. You live in a democracy. I think we'd all be grateful if as much energy went into respecting that fact.... as goes into preserving a parallel mini state that everyone else has to pay for. The racial make up of the country has changed. There are other... much larger ethnic groups who may start thinking they too deserve a separate parallel state. One beholden to Sharia law for instance? No. This just isn't sustainable for a small country such as ours. Nor is it in any sense 'fair' . My children do not deserve to be burdened by the crimes of their ancestors...
