that map strongly necessitates a powerful navy. the english had the clear edge here.

There are so many good Civ 5 mods, adding in tons of new Civs from every corner of the globe. No idea why you don't use any of them, instead of relying on half-assed and inaccurate potrayals of the Civs participating. There are mods for Maori, England, New Zealand...
