As a United States Marine Corps veteran..... watching your reaction to opening the flag, and getting its significance (Especially immediately saying "Don't ever ever let this TOUCH THE GROUND!) made my heart swell with pride and brought a HUGE smile to my face! If you haven't figured it out yet.... us Yank on this side of the pond, not only love your family, but we consider you one of us at this point!!!! :)
Y’all. watched the origin of our National Anthem and you know the significance of why True patriotic Americans never ever let the flag touch the ground. As a USAF veteran it almost burst my heart with Pride on the respect y’all showed my flag, Thank You
Atlanta, to answer your question "Why us?". It is because you and your family are Americans at heart. You and your family have shown us here in America and those around the world what TRUE Americans really are. Although you were born in NZ, your love for America is what makes you an American at heart, and THAT is why it was sent to you.
So True, after all America is an Idea, an Idea that all men are equals regardless of Nationalities, Ethnicity, or Religion. The Idea that all men should be free to be anything they want to be. We have learned many lessons through the years and we havent reached that penacle yet. But we will one day.
As a US Navy veteran, I salute your entire family for the amount of pride and patriotism you gave to YOUR/OUR flag. I as well as many other brave men and women are honored by your love for that flag. Thank you , and may God bless you all!! Virginia, USA
My Grandfather fought alongside the Yanks in WW2 and sometimes said,......after some whisky " American boys never quit, their Country is their Queen, their Flag is their Crown,. and may God Bless em ".......
And may God Bless you Brits as well! Your Grandfather was correct, we don’t quit, in a way I guess you could say our Country is our Queen though that’s why we fled England and fought for Independence from….., and truly our Flag is our Crown. My father was the other side, a US Marine in the South Pacific fighting the Japanese, I myself am a US Army Cold War Veteran 1983-1986.
That is such a HUGE honor for you guys to receive that flag...It couldn't go to a better family..and plus we from America do appreciate your respect for it...God Bless your family and rest assured you are Americans at heart..
WHY IS IT AN HONOR?! Because America is some amazing, great country?! Hello, have you opened your eyes the past few years?! We are the literal laughing stock of the world
@@FunnyNickolacho Right. Jamie doesn't seem to understand why so many people around the world want to come here. They will often even risk their lives to get here.
Hey Jamie, just because our media and politicians divide the citizens with ease, doesn’t change how amazing most of our people are and how great of a country we live in. So kindly leave if you don’t like it here.
That flag is one of a kind, one of one in the world. The next time an official government flag will be flown over the capital on the 4th of July in honor of NZ will be a long time. The fabric is designed to be flown outside, but I’d fold it correctly and store it extremely well until the next 4th. Edit; This flag is most likely made by Annin & Co and also please take great care of that authenticity document. This flag will become worth a lot someday, and for insurance purposes, the document should be just as important along with the envelope it came in.
@Erik Rafter My grandfather was a Colonel during WWII in the liberation of France. They went through a town somewhere and a mother and her children had hand made by candlelight in the closets in the middle of the night an American flag and a British flag. After they secured the town he went back and asked if he could have them. My uncle has them now. I consider them sacred objects because of the risk that family took to make them and the love, hope, and thankfulness that went into it.
@@mycroft16 I think it would be great if you could do the research to identify this family that made the British and American flags and then will the flags to a WW II museum so what they did could be properly recognized. On the other hand it's such a special thing I wouldn't fault you for keeping it in your family, but it's just a thought. Keep in mind that information on the donor and your story would become part of the exhibit.
As an American Army Veteran, I want to thank you for how you reacted to the flag I fought under. I have seen so many of my fellow Americans show such disrespect to that symbol it hurts. So many men and women have died for what that flag represents, your respect has filled me with Love; for you and your family.
I can’t imagine how you must feel seeing all these Maga idiots wearing them like it’s a fashion statement or flying them upside down just because they are butt hurt over who one the presidency.
I agree and I don't see how any American can disrespect the American flag if they're not happy to be an American they can always leave they won't be missed
When You opened the flag box up, my eyes began to swell with tears. With how divided our media and politics are over here right now, it truly hit my soul in the best possible way to see your humble reaction to this gift. I like that they embody the acceptance that all people should have. I really enjoy that they seem to eager to learn about us here in the US. I like to watch their videos because they are so refreshing in this time of turmoil on our shores. Gives me hope for the world at large.
Atlanta asked "why us?" When opening the flag. I understand it completely. You show such love, reverence and respect for the US in everything you put out. You've all actually made me tear up a few times with you. Many here take this country for granted. It breaks my heart. No place is perfect but I'm blessed to live here!

That moment when he said "never ever ever let this touch the ground" made me choke up ... knowing some americans let the flag touch the ground and still ask why it shouldnt touch the ground 🤦🏻♀️ we all know that that flag is in good hands with this amazing family. You guys deserve it ❤
Yes, and we call those Americans that allow the flag to touch the ground "dumbasses". On more than one occasion I've had to snatch up part of a flag that was touching the ground and explain to the aforementioned dumbass exactly why it's never supposed to touch the ground. Yeah, it has to do with Francis Scott Key and that National Anthem thing. If people died to keep the flag from touching the ground it's the least they can do.
@@MykeruMedia I see tattered flags, I see flags in the rain, I see flags in the darkness...but, I don't call my fellow Americans "dumbasses"...GROW UP and learn what respect actually is! It's the people behind the flag, not the flag itself. Disgraceful comments here...no clue what it's all about at all, just reciting the "rules", but zero regard for the humanity. you disgust me

@@CatharticGaming I completely agree. They are honorary Americans in my book, and should they ever need asylum, they will be welcomed with open arms. I hope things never ever get that bad for them though.
Owning a flag flown at any significant location by any significant public servant is a truly important and historic flag for any country. Awesome gift and your loss of words is completely understandable. A 4th of July party is the appropriate way to celebrate 🇺🇲
Yes! You should throw an absolutely _epic_ Independence Day party, starting with the raising of the flag at dawn! (Too bad that July 4th is in the middle of winter for you, down there, as big outdoors picnics/BBQs are the rule here in the U.S.! There is an 'official' way to fold the flag, so that you end up with a triangle, and you can buy different styles of triangular display cases for the folded flag.
I own the flag flown above the FOB my dad was located at in Iraq for multiple years. He was the oldest contractor there and received it out of respect. It's a sandy faded tattered flag but not bad enough to be destroyed. My family cherishes it
I am from Texas and it sounds like something my senator would do. If it is true. I am very pleased of his decision to give you a flag that we flew on the 4th of July. I wish more Americans loved the country like you seem to
There is a program where flags are flown on special flagpoles over the capital and those flags can be purchased through the office of members of Congress. Each flag comes with a certificate. It's called the capital flag program.
The flagpoles that fly flags for specific people are off to the side of the main flag pole on the West front. There are 4 main flag poles on the Capitol. Two are over each chamber of the building, one over the Senate wing and one over the House. Those flags are only up when either of them are in session. If you see the flag flying, that particular house is in session. The light under the Statue of Freedom is only on when either are in session as well. The other two are on the east and west fronts of the building. The one on the West front also has the POW flag below the American flag. Those flags are flown 24/7

A gift of an official, previously flown American flag in one of the greatest gifts that could ever be bestowed. Your family deserves it. It is an honor to share our flag with you.
This is so unbelievably arrogant. What makes an American flag “one of the greatest gifts that could ever be bestowed”?! Do you realize how that makes you sound?! Ridiculous. It’s an embarrassment. Stop holding America up on such a pedestal. It doesn’t belong there.
@@Hey_Jamie You know, without the USA you wouldn't have 90% of what you currently have. We are far from perfect, but we try. We've put forth more effort in 250 years than many countries have put forth in 1,000 years. And to us, our flag is sacred. So a gift of our flag is not to be taken lightly.

@@salemkitty5786 Also, if a flag is tattered and worn it should be saluted, and respectfully lowered for the last time before being burned with equal respect. What my father (a veteran of the Korean War) has normally done is solemnly sing the Star Spangled banner while watching it burn with his hand over his heart. If you do not have a place where this can properly be done, then the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion also accept flags for proper disposal.

Anyone can get one via the Capitol Flag Program. Contrary to popular belief, your Senators and House Reps work for YOU! Contact them and request one. 🇺🇸
All you need to do do is request one from your Representative or Senator. They run flags up and down the US Capitol's flagpole all the time to fulfill the requests for such flags. The 4th of July would have been a very busy day at the flagpole.

I teared up as well as you guys. That was so cool and sweet for Roddy to gift you guys a USA flag. You can buy a flag display case that’s triangular in shape(they may have other kinds). I'm slightly embarrassed that you have featured a package I have sent in each of your mail videos. But only slightly because I think you all are great. Keep it up!
Most any citizen can request a flag that has been flown over the US Capitol. The request goes to a member of congress from the state that the citizen resides in. The flag is flown for a fairly short time to accommodate all the requests. It's often requested to honor a recently deceased veteran. Our local hospital has one such flag that it sometimes flies on It's own flagpole in remembrance of one of its most loyal volunteers who was a veteran of the Marine corps. He would visit every patient asking "has anyone told you today that they love you?" And answer his own question with, well, I do and God loves you too!!" We miss Major Mac.
