I'm not impressed by her making something out of the box. Not hard for an 11 year old. But what impresses me is that she did them ALL and didn't get bored. I would have. And made the scones, which was more work.

I'd be very impressed if she had to convert the imperial measurement instructions to metric and get it spot on. They might still have imperial measuring cups available in NZ, but the U.S. is about the only place you'll find it on boxes anymore.

Look up turtles in chocolate candy. Chocolate, caramel and usually pecans (cashews are better!!). Semi round with the nuts kind of hanging out sides like feet.aboout 2 by 2 inches.

As an American - do not eat jelly of any flavor especially grape. I am sure grape jelly is the most popular but is not for everyone. I prefer a jam or preservatives on homemade American biscuits and scones. And cream on a scone or biscuit is quite nice.

i have to agree, due to being cheaper, usually grape jelly is eaten when your younger as kids, just like drinking cool-aid, etc. When your older and can get what you want, most want "better' jam or jelly and don't buy the cheap grape jelly anymore, just like many don't drink cool-aid as adults.

I agree with everything you said but the cream they’re eating is more like whipped cream. I didn’t feel any of those spreads would go well with it and they didn’t seem to really like it when they put cream with them.

Which for some reason, 'Strawberry jelly' is called 'Strawberry Spread'? At least as far as Smucker's and a few local brands here in Northern Arkansas is concerned. I still remember opening my lunchbox at school and seeing a PB&J sandwich in there. Yum!

I actually like my PB&J with the Apple Jelly. Not to say the the Grape isn't yummy too. Where I live in South Central Pennsylvania, many communities have an "Apple Butter Boil" in the Fall/Autumn during the apple harvest. There is nothing like it commercially, but it won't keep, and has to be eaten within a couple of weeks at the outside. There is a product "Pumpkin Butter" which is also very good. No "dairy" in either, it's called "butter" because you put it on bread.

Put some fruit in at least one of the jellos. Its also good mixed dry with cottage cheese and cool-whip, and crushed pineapple. Some people add mini marshmallows and chopped pecans.

Snapping turtle soup has been an American & Canadian delicacy for a long time. It really is a lot nicer than you'd think. As a confection, "turtle" sweets have to have the same ingredients as the original turtle-shaped candy: chocolate, caramel, and pecans.

I mad a three berry jam last week and am going to make raspberry jelly and preserves tomorrow.

I use no apple cider when I make homemade apple butter. Applesauce, sugar, and cinnamon oil only. Cook until it thickens and caramelizes. You add the Cinnamon oil after it is taken off just before canning. We cook it in a big copper kettle over a open fire outside. Use long handled stirs during cooking process. Born and raised in Central WV.

@@MamaMo777 Cinnamon oil is brilliant! Too much ground cinnamon makes it look dirty. I've made small batches of applebutter from the sad wrinkled ones left in the bottom of the bin months after apple picking season. I freeze it in plasticware instead of dealing with a couple of mason jars.

And her instincts. thinking of peanut butter when she tasted grape jelly for the first time is crazy if no one had brought up that pairing to her before. The way she talked and analyzed in general was impressive, like when she tasted the first brownie and said it would go well with tea; growing up in America we always had cold milk with them, and I know a lot of people like it with vanilla ice cream, but tea (with cream) is definitely heading in a good direction. She definitely has the palate for cooking if she wants to make a career out of it when she's older.

I mean, if you read the instructions, it's not that hard, lol.

Today the weather was nice, so my family went out and chilled with our chickens and planned our shared meals for the month. Then we grilled some food, played a two hour FATE session, and went back outside for a while to watch the light rain that had kicked up. And you know what we did after that? We went our separate ways to recharge and relax in privacy. My parents watched The Planet of the Apes(because a moment while playing FATE reminded them of it, and they just wanted to,) my sister went to her room to read (On her tablet, because we have mostly digital books,) and I went to my room to plan out our next weekly FATE session. There's a balance, and obviously it's something plenty of people still do, while also including screens. We have an actual family group chat to send each other funny things we stumble across on the internet. If you feel like it's lacking in your life, the only advice I can give is try to make that space with others who also want the same experience. It's not something that just happens on it's own, it's something you actively do.

That is more of a young adult thing.. You grow out of Jello shots (Well provided you grow up in the first place)

I like to butter toast and then spread the apple butter on top. it’s always better on warm toast! As someone mentioned, apple butter is not “butter“ but rather a sort of concentrated apple sauce with cinnamon (maybe cloves, too?) Pumpkin butter is also great! Do New Zealanders make pumpkin pie?? I lived in Sweden for an exchange student year and my host family could not imagine making a pie with pumpkin.

Yep! I only use grape jelly on my PB&J's. I just can't do other flavors. A good twist is to toast your pb&j after making it. The peanut butter is so warm and smooth (and drippy😄). So good!

When I was a kid it had to be "Smuckers " brand grape jelly.

Welch’s grape jelly or jam is the best but I can no longer get it where I live. They stopped making it and I am so sad.

First had them years ago at a restaurant in Tennessee along with the apple butter (www.applewoodfarmhouserestaurant.com/). Never tried to make apple butter, but have made apple fritters, and I highly suggest trying them.

Smucker's is made in Ohio, my home. We also have an annual Apple Butter Festival and it is cooked exactly the way you described, in a huge copper pot, stirred with a wooden paddle.
