AND the Tampa Cuban has Salami. It was a sandwich made for the cigar rollers who were Cuban, German, and Italian immigrants. Highly recommend coming to Tampa and going to La Segunda Central Bakery in Ybor City (a neighborhood in Tampa)

I'm a Oklahoman and we know no strangers. I talk to strangers all of the time, especially to give compliments. My mom said I should always compliment someone, man and woman. I have met nice people everywhere. Plus, Oklahomans are known for our friendliness and openness, ask any survivor from Hurricanes Rita and Katrina.

I loved in Florida for eight years and had the opportunity to enjoy these. Now I live in Alaska and every time someone says there’s a restaurant that can make one I except for the disappointment when I try it and it’s nowhere even close. I tried to explain to people how incredibly good these are, and how much money they could make if they would just do them right but no one wants to listen.

Cubanos are my FAVORITE! Although the medianoche (midnight) is even better imo. I'm glad that I can get some really good ones a couple blocks away from me in LA. Hush puppies are a ball of seasoned, fried cornmeal batter. They're a common southern staple. I think they originated in the Carolinas.

You have to use real cornbread mix or cornmeal - NOT Jiffy corn muffin mix! You add onion or garlic - it's savory and delicious. PS My parents were true Southerners from southeastern Kentucky and they did not like the Jiffy conrbread - said it wasn't real cornbread, it was cake! lol (I like it myself).

@@debrawhite751Jiffy is too sweet! Also, real deal cornbread has a coarser texture than Jiffy. Mom had a cast iron cornbread mold that had shapes like little ears of corn.

I grew up in Miami but I have left when I was in my 20's. I am so glad you tried a REAL cuban sandwhich and made it down to Key West. Great memories for you guys. It seems to rain in Florida almost every day but it is short and quick.

I had my first Cuban sandwich when I was staying at "Marriott. I remember I staying in room 618. Back in 2012 I was at the table with my father and I ordered it without even knowing how popular it was. Very good. It's so great to see you guys just hanging out in "Florida. Great video guys 👍

A hushpuppie is cornbread mix with onions mixed in. It is made using cornmeal, milk, and chopped onions. It's mixed to a thicker consistency scooped into small round balls and deep fried. It is served with fried fish, slaw, and fries. If you ever come to Tennessee check out a captain d's restaurant. They serve battered fried fish, fried shrimp, fried chicken strips, slaw, fried, and other sides (broccoli, fried okra, Mac n cheese). They also have cheesecake for dessert.

Hello from Michigan, my mother in-law lived in Key West for years she owned a beach bar on Smathers beach and was known for making the best burgers and sandwiches on the island 😊 I love watching your family try new things ❤️

The Cuban and midnight are wonderful sandwiches. The roast pork that's used on them is what makes the difference. And the cheese is Swiss. I never heard of that thing they tried to give you at the end. I figured they would have given you a ham. Croquetta.

Gotta come to New York and go to little Italy for all the authentic italian food, deserts and pastries, Massachusetts to Boston for Quincy Market and all great food they have there, And Connecticut for the place that invented the hamburger and is still open/serving em the same way as when they started it, along with the numerous Pizza places that get awarded best pizza in state, new England and country yearly pretty much. You guys would absolutely love the food at those spots!

Unfortunately there is 2 Cuban breads the one that they make in Tampa which we consider to be the traditional Cuban bread and the Cuban bread that they make in South Florida is 2 different breads all together the original Cuba sandwich was developed and made in Tampa Florida for the factory workers to take the lunches back then they did not have Mayonnaise autumn they did not have to Lettuce and tomato Cause it would be something that they would carry to work with them and with the heat of the day in here and Florida it would sour

The "traditional" Cuban bread used for the sandwiches are unique to the various areas - it is basically same but the are subtle nuances and you can get them pressed which many people prefer including myself because you get nice warm/hot crunch when you note into it and the bread is still soft enough to chew like a sandwich. Not pressed the sandwich is much thicker because it's not pressed and the bread is softer, but you'll still get a slight crunch due to crust of the bread. I think I explained it correctly. Either way a Cuban Sandwich is a great sandwich bonus is it's not teeny tiny or the size of a regular sandwich.

The name 'hushpuppies' came from southerners who would fry some basic cornmeal mixture (possibly a bread-coating or battering) and feed it to dogs to "hush the puppies".

First tried a Cuban south of Miami on a job after living in the northeast and loved it. Later moved to Tampa a bit later and loved Cubans for years. Now I'm out of Florida and nobody can recreate the majesty of this sandwich in my area. I've been craving a proper Florida pressed Cuban for years. Very jealous of you folks right now. Very happy you enjoyed the sandwich!

I went to Key West in October about a decade ago. The heat and humidity even in the fall was so intense. Was a great time though. Took the auto train down from the DC area to FL, then drove my convertible from the Orlando area to Key West. Had to keep my top up down there though. When I would get out of anything with AC, my glasses would fog up... including my car. One day when it was about 79 degrees out, I was walking down the street and saw a girl and her mom, with the girl wearing a hoodie with the hood up and sleeves over her hands. When I asked the mom if her daughter could really have been cold, she said that anytime it dips under 80, her daughter is chilled. Wow. The mom was originally from Buffalo, NY... so used to very cold temps... but the daughter, nope.

Miami has been known as the Magic City since the early 20th century due to its rapid growth in just one year, due to Henry Flager growing it and making the rich aware of its beauty and warmth.

The "Midnight" (medianoche) is just as traditional as the Cuban Sandwhich. The Medianoche uses a traditional egg bread that is popular in Cuba. Internationally, its not as well known. But locally, its very popular and just as culturally important to Cuban Americans. The Medianoche was always a favorite of my mom and abuelas.

Your not going to believe where else you can find a great Cuban Sandwich. It’s in Boston Yawkey way at the famous Fenway Park which you all have to do if your planning going to a Baseball game because it’s the oldest and best ballpark in America. Baseball fans make pilgrimages from all states to sit and watch a game there. The Fenway Frank is ok though it’s just Kayem brand hot dogs which they overprice them when you can get a package for 5 to 6 dollars. They probably charge the same amount for one.
