Great job! As an American (fry expert), I have two tips: when frying, remember that whatever you’re frying will continue to cook outside of the oil. The rule is that fried foods will get 1-2 shades darker as it cools. 2nd tip: instead of putting fried food on paper towels, put a wire rack on a plate and put your food on the rack. Your food will be way crispier! Those corn dogs turned out amazing :)

Quick safety tip, Atlanta. Keep the handle on your frying pan/pot pointed 30 degrees backwards, so that it is much harder to accidentally hit the handle and spill hot oil you, or your family members (including your pup). Love watching you guys' videos, btw. Seeing Denzel drop the corn dog into the oil while standing so close to the pan kind of scared me. Just some safety pointers. Thanks, guys.
@mikeduncan3953
@mikeduncan3953 Год назад
Yeah, as someone who worked in kitchens for over a decade, any time you're dropping something into hot oil like that, you want the part that is dropping to be facing away from you, to ensure you get no splashback.
@lisal6121
@lisal6121 Год назад
Hot oil is no joke! I let a pan with about an inch of oil get too hot. When I touched the handle the oil burst into flame. You CANT put an oil fire out with water. Luckily I had the correct lid close at hand and I could slide the lid on quickly, the lack of air extinguished the fire. Panicking was an understatement.
@mikeduncan3953
@mikeduncan3953 Год назад
@@blakerh Not competing or anything, but I was once changing the oil from an industrial fryer, when I picked up the pot it caught on the drain spout and a little splashed onto my hand causing that hand to let go and about 5 liters of hot oil poured onto my foot. About 6 months and a few skin grafts later and I had a foot that almost didn't look like hamburger.
@lowe48x14
@lowe48x14 Год назад
@@lisal6121 Perfect response on your part. Only three ways to save a house from an oil fire. Suffocation by smothering with a lid, as long as the hot oil fire hasn't gotten too hot, removal by carrying it outside (very dangerous), or by fire extinguisher (also very dangerous, unless you are properly trained). With a fire extinguisher, always remember to turn off the heat FIRST! Then, when spraying the fire extinguisher, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER point it directly at the oil fire. ALWAYS START ABOVE THE FIRE, and move down somewhat slowly to extinguish the fire. Also, while spraying your fire extinguisher, swipe slightly side-to-side. NEVER NEVER NEVER fire off your fire extinguisher from less than ten feet away, unless you have no other choice. IF YOU ARE WITHIN FIVE FEET, leave, and call the fire department. Treat ALL liquid based fires this way. If you point the fire extinguisher directly at a liquid based fire, it can blow burning oil (on-fire oil) onto surrounding walls, crevices, and even people and animals in some circumstances... and can sometimes blow the burning liquid directly back at you.

I (USA) had a couple corn-dogs just a few days ago. Corn bread can be a bit dry by itself, IMO. Cornbread will forever remind me of how heavenly it tasted with my mother's vegetarian red bean chili, diced raw onions, sour cream, and shredded cheese. That'll fill you up.

I bought an old cooker, like a very early (1920s) crock pot. The lid clamps down. Well I mixed up a batch of corn bread and put in 3/4ths of a can of kernel corn, and cooked it in the cooker, in 2 mini loaf pans. It came out very moist. I think the canned corn helped and the steam not being able to escape helped but it took like over an hour to cook. But it was very good. Also I think it being rather high - as the pan even though it was small was a loaf shaped pan, helped too. I've cooked my cornbread when the pan was too big and the cornbread was too thin and it came out very dry. I think like a muffin, it needs to be a certain height when the batter is raw to hold in the moisture.

It honestly never occurred to me to make my own. Those look so good! In the US we generally just buy them from the grocery store in the frozen section and then heat them up in the oven before eating. At a carnival or fair they will do them in oil from scratch like that though. You’re making me want to try making these now. Also, I like to mix ketchup and mustard together for hot dogs or corn dogs. They’re good plain too. Also you’ve got to try cornbread. It’s made in a square cake pan and is basically the same batter as a corn dog. Probably can find a recipe online. It’s a bit fluffier than that batter. And we eat it with butter and honey or sometimes will spoon chili over it (kind of a thick stew of beans and hamburger). It’s so delicious.

If you're an old southern lady (me), you make corn bread in an iron skillet. The best corn meal is White Lily. I use self-rising (no need to add salt or baking powder). If you can find a bag of White Lily, the recipe is on the back. I always make mine a little thinner than suggested. It is WONDERFUL. Eat it with anything. We always have it with soup beans, but anything is good. My mama used to eat it with breakfast gravy. I like it that way, too. We just eat it with a meal, no matter what we're having. Hope you can find White Lily somewhere. If not, let me know and I'll ship you a bag! Blessings!

When I (63f) was a teenager, there was a mall in town that had a corn dog stand in the mall. They served corn dogs, cheese dogs and shish-ka-dogs. The cheese dogs were made by putting a stick of cheese on the skewer and then, dipping the cheese in the corn bread mixture and then, into boiling oil. The shish-ka-dog was made by putting bite-sized pieces of hot dog and cheese on the skewer like a kabob (every other piece) and dipping it in the corn bread mixture and then, into the oil. Those were my FAVORITE!!! They had the corn bread mixture in a metal container and boiling oil in another metal container. It was set up so that you could watch the workers make the dogs, which was fun to watch! I hope you see this so that you can try making cheese dogs and shish-ka-dogs.

This is amazing. I’ve never once made a corn dog, Yet I’ve lost count on how many I’ve eaten throughout my life. I usually just get mine from Quick-Trip (Gas station/fuel mart) Or frozen from a grocery store. I personally don’t like mustard, so it’s Ketchup for me. Unless I get the “pancake + sausage” corn dogs then it’s maple syrup 👌

I really enjoy watching your videos. As an American we take many of these things on your videos for granted. I appreciate your attitude and open mindedness. I love corn dogs. My love of the corn dog centers on the type of frank and the type of breading that is used. The condiments are only used if the corn dog can't support itself. I myself prefer no condiments. I think mustard is way overrated. I understand that's just my opinion. To each his own taste. I have enjoyed eating corn dogs for over sixty years. Your family is great. Keep up the good work. I am looking forward to all your new videos.

You make up the corn batter, pour a little into mini muffin tins, and either put cocktail franks in or cup up a hot dog into 1/4's and put them in then cover with more batter and bake. Haven't tried it yet. But here's a good one for y'all. Cook up a bunch of breakfast sausages, skewer them on sticks, dip them in pancake batter, and deep fry them. Then dip in maple syrup.

My favorite now is French's because it tastes like the Monarch ketchup packets you get at some restaurants. I don't even know what I may put on a corn dog until I open the fridge. Mayonnaise mixed with mustard, straight mustard, mustard mixed with honey, ketchup, or rarely some BBQ sauce which I normally regret.
