CoDGplays To make myself clear, I’m against war. I hate conflicts of any type. To me, the war is causing not just physical damage, but mental damage to both sides. As an American, its my constitutional right to have that opinion. I do, however, respect the soldiers. You can hate the war, but you should never hate the soldier. American soldiers, for the most part, choose to give their life for their nation. That decision deserves respect. I don’t understand what those children in war zones are going through, you’re right. I don’t need to worry about my house being blown to bits or have to take shelter from heavy barrages of artillery. But, I do know the pain of losing a parent. I know what it’s like to see my father unrecognizable as he takes his last breath. It may not have been bloody, but it was horrid nonetheless. My point is simple, my dude. Respect the soldiers, hate the war.

The US Coast Guard has a saying: "You have to go out. You don't have to come back." That applies to deploying to a combat zone like Afghanistan or Iraq, so it's not just their families being happy to see them.

As a veteran I saw stuff like this all the time. Not the surprise, but the joy of seeing a missing loved one. See, after you come back from a deployment you have a massive parade and tons of family come and see you. This is, of course, after a long and tiring plane ride. Little kids break free from their mommies and run to daddy all the time. Quite touching and sweet.

i grew up what is termed an Army Brat. My dad served in Korean War in the Navy *b4 he and my mom even met* and in the Army and Served in the Vietnam War in country. Back then being a Soldier or a dependent of a soldier was not a goo thing. Not only did we move every 2 years or less. Once people found out we were military most ignored us and were very rude. And in school the kids, most of them wanted to start fights, pull knives on me, surround me as a gang and start a fight. It was not much better for my mom. And dad well they spit on him and called him baby killer when he came home from Nam. Now it seem like about half of the people really honor Vets and those serving and the other half, well some will act like they are honoring but in a back handed way. I am very proud my dad served. Out of his five boys 4 of them served. And half of his grand kids have or are serving.
@paulsid15

I've got to experience coming home as a single soldier and coming home as a husband and dad. Seeing the excitement and emotion on your kids faces turns you into an emotional wreck so quick. The key is to try to maintain the feeling of reuniting because after a few days it starts to present challenges. Your family has gotten used to your absence and has adapted. It's so easy for us to go back into the mode we were in before we left, but we cannot expect them to. It's a slow process getting everyone used to you being around again and requires patience and understanding.

Hi Courtney. I believe the young marine and the girl in the wedding dress were brother and sister. She was bummed because he wasn't going to be able to get home for the wedding. My older brother was a 30 year navy guy, and a bunch of those years (including 2 tours in Viet Nam) as a Seal. Hard on a family, but somehow brings them so close. Love your reactions. Have left some suggestions in comments and on your request site. Hope to see them one day, but not complaining. I'll be watching either way. Stay safe and well.

I know it's nonsensical trying to understand patriotism when so many countries are so torn apart (you Kiwis are better off than most) but this is why people in America are so patriotic. No one wants to see their kids or loved ones go off to fight another persons war. So just seeing these people come home safe and sound is a magic in and of it's self.

Courtney, this is the heart and soul of patriotism. Regardless of your nationality, the sacrifice of military personnel is the same around the world. Their life is a blank check for their country's government, with the understanding that they're serving a cause greater than themselves. For their families - for them to be able to return home is perhaps the greatest blessing of all.

All of the worries the family members go through. All of the prayers that are prayed every day for their loved ones. When the military soldiers come home to surprise their loved ones with their return, their emotional tears represent so much sacrifice, loneliness, and the days, months, and years of separation which are required. They all miss out on so much: Milestone birthdays, proms, graduations, weddings, deaths, births, first steps, first words, the loss of their child's first baby tooth, recitals, sports games, holidays, etc. All of this so that we can remain FREE!! God bless America!

This video, and your reaction to it broke me. I served in the U.S. Navy for over 24 years. 13 deployments during my career. Went through a divorce in Pennsylvania just after 9/11, had two wonderful kids age 9 and 8, and then transferred from PA to a deployed Navy fighter squadron on combat operations during ENDURING FREEDOM several months later. Little did I know I wouldn't see my kids for a year and half, and would only see them three weeks during the next three year tour of duty. Two combat cruises and nearly a third. Took a follow-on assignment to Washington DC when I left to be as close to my kids as could and it was the greatest feeling in the world, being there with my kids all the time, any time. Like heaven. Four years later, it was time for another sea tour, and my son really struggled with me leaving. We talked it out Easter weekend 2007 when the kids were with me, took them home to their Mom, went to work on Monday and out of no where told my boss I was retiring from the Navy. I'd done everything in my career field, nothing left to prove, nothing more give other than to my kids. I just couldn't say goodbye anymore to the two people I loved most in this world, to continue to serve, the best job I'd ever have. Best decision I ever made in my life. Thank you for sharing this video Courtney, and your sincere and heartfelt reaction to it. Both beautiful and hard to watch for me at the same time.

I was on a flight months after 9/11 and there were about eight soldiers who were on their way to deployment. It was a full transcontinental seven + hour flight and they were scattered about on their way to war. Myself and every other passenger in First Class just looked at each, stood up, and traded seats with our Military Personnel. I’m 6’5” so I hadn’t been in couch in years. It was the best flight that I was ever on. The pilot addressed their presence and the plane erupted. He radioed ahead to the airport and the jetway and all through the terminal people stood on other side chanting and applauding them. It was all spontaneous. You watch a lot of videos about our technology. But we don’t love the plane, we love the pilot , not the Rifleman’s weapon, but the person pulling the trigger. Disney and Universal cost about $200 per person, per park. The military discount is 50%. Every restaurant has a Military Rate. Tampa is the home to USCENTCOM. There are allies and collision members stationed there from every friendly country in the world. They control the missions and deployment of all of our Special Forces and Air Assets in the Middle East, so we’re Super Bowl and Stanley Cup and World Series Champions, and we just had Wrestlemania. We have the Number One airport in the world and am “Food and Wine’s” Top Culinary destination. But if you ask people from here, they’ll stand in their front yard among the towering Oak Trees all wrapped in Yellow Ribbons and tell you it’s MacDill (Air Force Base). General Schwarzkopf lived here until his death, The Rock and Hulk Hogan started here, Jim Morrison went to school here, my friend Dave Bautista lives here (Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy, yeah I go and eat out with Drax several times a month living here) and that multiple warhead nuclear missile that you liked, designed here at Raytheon. Our main Level 1 Trauma Hospital has the highest success rate of organ transplantation in the world. But like I said, Military First. They put on a display every year of a mock special-op using blanks to show other country and people line up everywhere to see the firepower, helicopters, gun boats , and SEALS suddenly popping out from under the boat and boarding while it is still under attack. Please search for “Mock Special Forces Operations Tampa,” or a variation. Love your channel. Discovered it today and hit more bells than the announcement of a Royal Birth!

We’ve been dealing with COVID for a lesser time than that young man has been without his mother in his life at 4:48. Crazy how that puts things into perspective; what these loving families have to go through whilst serving and protecting their country is truly unimaginable for most. So much respect ✊

Thank you Courtney for showing respect for those who serve in the military. I served in the USAF during the Vietnam War and we didn't receive a warm welcome home from many people.

I was an Army brat for my entire childhood and a soldier for 8 years. These videos get to me but they also annoy me... These moments are so personal and honestly they feel a little disingenuous when they involve a crowd... Surprising a loved one is cool, but seeking attention when you do it just feels wrong. LIKE I SAID- it still gets to me, because I know the feels from both sides. It's just the crowds and cameras that annoy me.

I have to watch these so I can live vicariously through the soldiers coming home to much fanfare and people missing them. When I got back, it was about 2 am, and only my sister showed up to meet me at the airport. There was a fist bump, maybe a small hug, but then just sorta bland, if any, conversation on the half hour ride home. Upon return, I mean, no one was up waiting to welcome me back, no one made any kinda deal about it. Honestly, felt more like they wished I stayed gone longer... 😮‍💨 So I love these videos, and so glad they are so diverse as to who is being surprised, so that I can pretend that it was my own experience and I'm not just watching it.

Courtney, it is very emotional. It gets me every time, because I have been there myself. I served 20 years in the US Army. My family knows this scene all too well. But, no more, as I am retired from the military. But, I also supported the military as a civilian in Afghanistan. That was more dangerous than my military deployment to Iraq. Artillery shells or rockets fired into the compound almost daily. It even happened while I was on the phone with my wife, and she asked what was that, and I tell her it is the siren for in-coming hostile fire, while I made my way the concrete bunkers. But, many other soldiers have done multiple deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan, so I consider myself lucky in that aspect. It is hard on families, but most family members know that their parents wouldn't have it any other way, because they are PROUD to do their duty as a soldier! GOD BLESS ALL THE SOLDIERS OUT THERE TODAY ! t

I spent 3 years in the army stationed in the pacific. About half way through I flew back to Minnesota. Just walked into my parents house and asked what was for dinner. My mom and dad were in shock, hadn't seen me in 18 months. Surprise was great.

I come from a navy family. My mother is retired 25 years with 2 deployments. One was to Kuwait and the second to Afghanistan. The hardest part wasn't watching her board the plane. The hardest part was waiting at the airport as she got off. Knowing she came back alive after her base was constantly being attacked almost daily in 2011. Before her first deployment, we both got matching seabees tattoos. Above mine says ( My mom is A) watching these videos always brings me to tears. I am proud of each and every one of our soldiers.

I can get lost for hours watching these videos. And then last year it happened for my sister. In the same year time frame her daughter moved hundreds of miles away. Her son moved 2hours away and then her 18 yr old twin sons both joined the Air Force. To say it was a tough year is an understatement. One twin she knew would be home for Xmas but the other one -with some help from his big brother and his wife- surprised her and her husband with him. Then they got his twin brother the next day that didn’t know he was going to be there when he got home. Priceless moments

Well I’m a 12 year veteran with the United States Marine Corps which seven years of deployment before I retired and yes those videos make me cry as well. I went through that with my young son years ago and now he is an officer in the army leaving for deployment tomorrow and I’m sure when he returned it’s going to be the same thing just reversed. Very touching, great job

These tears of joy are great I cant take anything away. As an army veteran who deployed twice. We need to see a lot more goodbye videos. When the veteran leaves no one knows what will happen. Speaking from experience my three girls never handled it well and that pain i/we put on them still hits me hard. Just saying

Both my sister and her husband were deployed to two bases in South Korea at the same time. They were gone for close to 14 months when all said and done. We had their two kids living with us. They let us know when they were coming home and we met him at the airport. It was so great watching them run to them. The airport let us go up to the gate to see them right away. I will say there wasn’t a dry eye around
