I walk into the national forest and fish the Whanganui. This is very remote and tricky as hell to navigate safely. I use a standard Nymphing rig to catch these excellent Rainbow trout. Fly Fishing is very special on this river and you certainly feel small in front of nature. I would drive down and fish that water, but there's just too much good water between me and there. Ever fish the section closer to town?

Hey Bro. U mean around Taurmaranui? I have fished the entire River from there to about as far as you can go before Lake O. It took me 13 years to do it but yeah bud. Great water the lot of it, probably best river in North island.

@@rivergod21 I have only fished it twice and only the lower parts, but I can see what you mean. It's like a mix between taupo and pastoral waterways. I would love to explore it more and will do in future, but the amount of water is intimidating. As someone who has spent the last 5 years exploring all the water around me that place seems just too massive. Well done on fishing so much of it

Hey Bro, great vid and that crossing looked bloody tricky. I thought I recognised the first pool, but can't recognise anything beyond that. When you look at the depth of the pools, the size of the fish and the strength of the current, I think that 6 weight Zenith of yours is an absolute minimum. I remember you guiding me into that river with Dave and I used a 5 weight and that was undergunned. Serious walk in Bro.

I love U Tube for that fact. Someone in the great nation of Russia is watching a vid from across the world in NZ. The rod I am using is a Hardy Zenith 6 weight, four piece. It is a power house.
