Came to Canada from the UK in the early 70’s as a boy. Fifty years have blown by. Ever since I was in my early 20’s visiting New Zealand has been a dream of mine. Never had any issues with bears here in Canada. I think the New Zealand, Australia, Australia and UK alliance will be a great thing. Believe me, Canada is even more different from the USA than it was 12 years ago. I have to say that I am jealous of you guys…New Zealand seems like an absolutely beautiful country.

Great video, ideal for me as I'm from the U.K and was trying to decide between NZ and Canada. I went with Canada and on the cusp of moving to B.C, after visiting Victoria I fell in love with it and my Visa got approved recently 😊 I agree Vancouver and Victoria has that American feel but I'm quite used to it from travelling across US and feel I can happily adapt to that. But I spent 2015 living in NZ and it was the best year of my life, so I spent a lot of time considering a move back. Everything you said about the scenery, the accessibility of it, the laid back lifestyle is why I felt at home there so I can see why it was an easy choice for you both 😎 I feel I can be just as happy in Canada though, as long as I don't get eaten by a bear 🐻

Canadian born and raised. I have lived in Nova Scotia and Alberta. I also lived in New Zealand for a year in 2015-2016. Both countries are neck and neck my opinion. Personally where New Zealand is superior to Canada is the weather and scenery 110%. However I think Canada is superior in a lot of ways too. There are far more cities to choose from as for places to settle. The cost of living is significantly cheaper right down to the simple small things like a cup of coffee or bottled drink. Our jobs pay quite a bit more and our currency is also worth more. Overall I think if you're someone who plans for the future and wants to have a nice house, nice clothes, nice car etc then Canada is far superior. I bought a camera in New Zealand and that same camera at home was literally half price. Overpaying for everything your entire life would leave you with less when it comes to retire. I think if you're someone who lives very much in the moment and doesn't think too much about life in the golden years then New Zealand may appeal to you. If you're highly educated or coming with ALOT of money then New Zealand is the choice that I would make but as far as being an average joe I think Canada is by far the smarter choice. If I won the lottery I'd sell everything I own and move to New Zealand full time in a heartbeat but I just found in my time there my money didn't go nearly as far and I had to give up a lot when it came to consumables. It would be way easier to move to New Zealand from Canada than vice versa because our money would go alot further. Hopefully this comment helps someone ❤
@jeffbrown5465
@jeffbrown5465 Год назад
Thank you this comment really helped and insightful. As I am in a crossroad right now between Canada and NZ. But Canada process can be really frustrating, still I think Canada is the better choice for many obvious reasons you stated, especially for an ordinary Joe like me with a young family.
@jared2232
@jared2232 Год назад
@@jeffbrown5465 I can understand this is a very tough decision I wish you the best in picking whats right for you! Believe me New Zealand is absolutely breathtaking and my preferred spot of the two if I'm being honest but at some point I just needed to be realistic with myself. I'm a plumber / welder / pipefitter by trade and at this stage of my life logically it just makes more sense to be in Canada. In Canada I have the opportunity to make 2-3 times the money yearly which you can imagine would be huge when it comes to the lifestyle you live day to day. Canadian currency is worth 20% more than New Zealand as well. I used to send chunks of money home and would lose a bunch of money right away. I struggled with the idea if I lived there for 20+years if I ever wanted to move home I would lose alot of my savings where as Canada to New Zealand I would actually gain alot of money. Things that I would normally buy without even thinking twice in Canada I would have to save for a month or more in New Zealand. You really need to know where to shop in New Zealand. If you're someone who is super good with money and you and your wife have mediocre jobs New Zealand might be doable but life is definitely easier in Canada.

We loved watching this! My husband and I have found ourselves in very similar situations - we spent a month in Canada (Vancouver and Whistler) and we absolutely fell in love with it. When we returned home to South Africa we began looking into immigrating across. My husband is also a plumber, and I am a teacher, and the process was so long and just very very difficult for the jobs that we're in. Neither of our qualifications were transferable. We believe that it just wasn't meant to be... We then started looking into New Zealand, and I got very excited about the education system (especially compared to our country!) We started the application, and it also went much faster than we expected, even in COVID. Our visas were recently approved, and we hope to be over early in the new year. Thank you for your wonderful videos! We've been binge-watching them!

Great video, like always I look forward to hearing you guys! I think now it is easier to immigrate to Canada than NZ. We went for a visit to Ontario, Canada 2 years ago and although it is a beautiful country, we felt like we couldn’t give up the UK for Canada, similar to your experience. Now we have turned our attention towards NZ because we still don’t feel like London will be our home forever and we are planning to come and visit soon. The Issue is our jobs are definitely not something NZ needs and to be able to apply for an investor visa you need a looooot of money.

Hi guys, thanks so much for the content! Specifically looked for something like that:) I have lived in NZ for more than 4 years now (being from Europe) and loving it , but i am really at a crossroads currently, thinking about leaving to Canada. I love your views and stories and appreciate you sharing them. I'm feeling that a lot of things have changed over the last years though, and things are upside down a bit, at least immigration-wise. New Zealand immigration is basically non-existent, whereas Canada is really trying to set up a decent system to help and support immigrants. Much easier immigration process now in CA and fairly quick (compared to NZs recent visa processing backlog of roughly 11 years they said :D) Nevertheless, i'm a bit scared of the "too american" that you mentioned though.I love the laid back kiwi way of life, but struggle with it at the same time because nothing ever seems to get done properly :D :D I am looking to go to Vancouver Island hoping to have this remote lifestyle that i currently have in the Coromandel. I would absolutely love to hear in another episode what made you want to go to Canada in the first place:) Anyway, i will soon figure out what will be the way for me:) Thanks a lot and keep up the good content!

Thank you so much for this comment max, it seems that you are at the crossroads of a very exciting stage in your life! Canada is beautiful, there is no doubt about that. I believe that places are there for you at certain times in your life. For us, living in Canada before we had kids was perfect. The experience led us to getting or own business, growing as people and embracing adventure and change. Ten years later however, it was New Zealand that called to us. We were looking for something completely different and NZ gave that to us. Now? The kids are almost adults and we are talking about living in Asia for part of the year (Thailand) as that is where we feel inspired to create a location independent life... Life is an adventure Max, if Canada feels right go for it! It might not be forever but if it is what you are called to at this time in your life then run towards it! 😁 I'm not sure of you listen to our Behind the Scenes Podcast but we recorded this one: Why we REALLY left the UK.... itsadrama.com/behind-the-scenes-4-why-we-really-left-the-uk/ It might give you an insight into how we adventurers are all the same - born to travel and try new things!! @@ItsaDrama Thanks so much for ur lovely reply! Can only agree with you on everything you say. Our time on this planet is so short and we should really go after what is calling us. It's challenging in times though to fully let go of things that we still love (New Zealand for me), but having that independence without family and kids and being able to go wherever life is "pushing" me is actually a privilege. Living in Asia 'part-time' has also been on my mind for a bit, hence i'm trying to make that location independent life happen currently (@Max & The Universe - Absorbing Inspiration if you want to see some of the Coromandel on youtube :P) Anyhow, thank you so much, gonna check out your other episodes now. I get your point about Canada seeming somewhat American. But, as a Canadian, I guess that's because we are North American and they're the bigger brother, so some of the American influence is bound to rub off on Canada. And Vancouver is notorious for it's homeless problem on the downtown east side.

I was born in the UK and raised in Canada. I married a Kiwi, and moved to NZ in 1986 when I was 31. Not surprised that Poms assimilate better to NZ than Canada, the two countries actually have a lot more similarities. And I grew up in the prairies, but spent five years in BC before coming to NZ. So I have a broad experience of living in different regions of Canada, as well as having travelled and worked extensively in both Canada and the US. I love the beaches here, but the quality of driving is awful, and I drive for a living. I was surprised about your bear comments, maybe grizzlies but blacks are pretty harmless. And cougars? Well I never saw one in all my bush walking in BC. And there are sharks and sting rays in the sea here! Anyway, cheers from Nelson and found your video interesting.

As a Canadian I understand all of your comments both positive and negative. I have also travelled regularly to NZ since early 1990s and I am familiar with both. Now that I am retired I am thinking of a 6 month - 6 month split between the two as I find the culture and values of the 2 countries very similar. As a Canadian I immediately felt at home when I first visited NZ - albeit a Canada about 20 years earlier. Kiwis express similar sentiments when they visit Canada. I have found in recent years however, that NZ has changed significantly with the tourist boom brought on by the Lord of the Rings movies and social media coverage. Unlike when I first visited there are a large number of American food chains etc taking over some of the most popular areas in NZ and the whole freedom camping experience that I loved so much has been ruined. It has also become soooooo expensive to visit that I’m not sure that I can any longer afford to visit, even for backpacking which is what I generally come to NZ to do. The last time I was in NZ I found the locals involved in the tourist trade were burnt out and not nearly as welcoming as they had been a decade or two earlier. One comment about the street children in Vancouver and Victoria - as a Canadian I also found this situation shocking when I first started working regularly in Vancouver and Victoria. I fully agree that it is a disturbing reality on the west coast. The reason you see so many homeless (children) congregated in BC is because it has the mildest climate in the country, the homeless make their way to the west coast from elsewhere in the country to escape the harsh weather in the rest of the country and for a few other reasons I won’t discuss here. While sadly there are homeless of all ages found throughout Canada despite our strong social safety net, the concentration on the west coast is quite shocking but understandable when you consider our climatic regions. I think that your overall perspective of Canada would have been different had you ended up in the eastern maritime region which is less influenced by American culture and does have the ready access to sandy beaches etc. Not that it is better, just different. As a Canadian I also considered emigrating to NZ at one point in my career, but it would be very difficult to leave Canada permanently. While I love NZ I found salariés relatively lower than Canada in NZ and housing/ general cost of living higher. As an outdoor enthusiast I love NZ and you are correct, the lack of large predators and poisonous insects and reptiles makes it much safer while the mountains and ocean offer spectacular scenery. As a world traveller I have yet to find 2 countries I love more, and so I choose to spend my summers hiking and kayaking in Ontario, Quebec and eastward, and look forward to spending the worst of the winter doing the same in NZ, although the over tourism and high cost has put a bit of a damper on my enthusiasm the last number of years….

Two years ago my friend in Northland managed to get her and her 12-year old daughter into a rental house. The homeless problem, especially for kids, is the worst in Vancouver. In the other big cities, Toronto, Montreal and Calgary, the homeless are almost exclusively adults. Also, a lot of the teenagers on the street are theire by choice. They're often kids from the suburbs who either have been kicked out of the house because of drugs or they're gay and then they end up turning tricks downtown. Sad, but true.

I came from a 3rd world country in the Middle East. I thought Canada is a developed and first-world country like European countries, the US, Japan, South Korea, Australia, News Land, and Singapore with the western standard, and also I thought is one of the best. The first time 2018 I arrived in Vancouver, I was shocked. I saw a lot of homelessness, trash, crime, ugly urbanism, and rusty houses in downtown and east Vancouver. I saw, homeless people, pooping and peeing everywhere and it's so common. nobody cares. I was shocked again. I endured for 3 years but every day going worst. late in 2022I decided to move to the east coast because I thought that place has a stronger culture. I chose Montreal. I had heard it is the capital of art and civilization in Canada. it was absolutely wrong. Canada is Canada. I was shocked again, again, and again. the wave of homelessness, graffiti, vandalism, bad smell, terrible infrastructure especially roads in or out of the city, and above all, you can see trash everywhere. plastic bags, tissues, water bottles, and disposable cups. You cannot see any street or park or public place without these. This is impossible. surprisingly nobody cares. neither the people nor the government!!!!!!! please, don't be fooled by the advertisement about a good Canada. please, be careful. most of the things about a good Canada are deception. I think Canada compare to Newzealand or Australia is like an undeveloped country.

I would choose Canada over NZ because it's much larger and more diverse, with a lot more variety (oceans, mountains, prairies, forests, rocky coasts, the Arctic) in the landscapes, geography, climate and types of people. It's also much closer to the good aspects of the US, such as California beaches, Hollywood, NYC Broadway and Disney world. It's also a lot closer to Europe. Canada combines the best elements of the US, UK and France, which no other country can say. I'm sure that NZ is a beautiful country, it sure looks like it on your videos, but I've always thought that, if I went 'Down Under, I'd prefer Australia, since it seems to have a lot of parallels with Canada (both massive countries, very multicultural and diverse, with modern big cities and incredible scenery And wilderness). NZ, while beautiful and tranquil, seems kind of like a slower-paced version of Australia. Bottom line: I'd love to visit both Aus & NZ for myself and test my theories. Who knows? I might fall in love with NZ like you did, change my mind, and emigrate too! Lol
@ItsaDrama
@ItsaDrama 3 года назад
Thank you so much, I think you've pretty much nailed it. Slower and more tranquil was exactly what we were after at that stage in our lives and NZ ticked all of our boxes. Well as you said, you Can't just say Canada, we are a massive country, and big differences between British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, NFLD, etc. BC alone is 3 times as big as NZ with same population...Vancouver island, to Vancouver to the Oakanogan.. Bella Coola, sailing up the inside passage to Alaska...come on.. Then Ontario, we have over 200,000 lakes. If you have ever been to Norway or the Swedish Archipelago..it looks just like that.. Then, we are next door to USA, 3 to 4 hours flight to Caribbean.. Cost of Living is cheaper.. Sorry We didn't know you 12 years ago.. I would have advised you, on how to get into Canada.. Actually not sure why the UK people think they're better? I lived in UK and you have so much poor people and homelessness while the rich Queen and her people collect money from tax payers for their salaries and pay for their massive castles.. UK is very expensive country and their currency is higher than the dollar. Hard to drive there because roads are almost fit for one car and also you drive on the wrong side of the road weird. About the homeless kids in BC; these kids are run away from home for some reason or other. They collect welfare and there are shelters but the sad reality is like every where else about the run away kids. Check this out: One in 107 children in Great Britain are currently living in temporary accommodation. There are approximately five homeless children for every school in the country. One in 24 children in London are homeless and living in temporary accommodation - that's equivalent to nearly 28 children per school or nursery. This is not me talking but UK statistics about homeless children.... Why you call it Great Britain what's great about it? You realize Canada is a massive country and you only went to a small part. BC has a wide forestry, bears and wild life is important to Canadians. Snow and winter is part of every Canadian's life. Winter is cold but we're prepared for it. You're trying to convince others that the very slow passed New Zeeland is better than Canada where as you only been to such a small portion of a province is not justifiable. We are not Americans but they're our neighbour to the south like the cousin you don't like but he is family.

Well, it's Dec. 1st., 2023 and I think you made the right decision. Our country's being run by an idiot, with clowns for Members of Parliament. After spending 10 years in China as a teacher, I turn 70 next year and want to get the hell out of my " home and native land " for good now. New Zealand is one of the places I've thought about retiring too. I'll be collecting a pension of around $2,000.00 / month Canadian and what ever other money I may have. ( maybe I'll win a few quid in the lottery ). I believe the weather is better in New Zealand, it's easier to get a Dr. and it's cleaner, even though Canada is quite clean, New Zealand is even cleaner. I believe if I can life in China for 10 years and manage then surely, being Canadian, I can live in New Zealand. Let me know what you think, I'd appreciate the feedback. P.S. I'm single, no dependants, just me. I don't smoke, drink very little, enjoy weight lifting and am adverse to the COVID vaccines. I had just one shot of Moderna and got ill from it. I was on crutches for about a months time because of the vaccine. So, NO more COVID vaccines. I'm otherwise healthy. Cheers, A. D.
