Don't know how good this thing is but, yes heat pumps are more efficient than electric heaters. Found this out when I had to heat my motorhome when I was paying for electric. Turned on my 1500W heater (5,000 btu) and the electric gauge was spinning, Turned on my heat pumps (2 * 13,500 btu) and the gauge spun slower. Could not believe it but was very happy. Heat pumps heated my motorhome down to 35 degrees outside then turned on furnace.

right we have a heat pump in our main unit.. but anything below 40 it sucks! see with this i can pump up the gas and get it to temp then tuen this on and shutt down the gas.. as long as its over 50 inside this will run for ever..

at times i had 3 1500 watt heaters running in this rv at one time lol think mine was spinning lol

Heatpumps are typically 2.5-3x efficient. As you aren't making heat, rather moving it. A plug in electric heater is 1x efficient

@@MichaelFlatman Readongbthe specs, this is NOT a heat pump. Also the EER number verifies its a all too common single hose crappy ac. unit. Heat is resistence.

I bought used TV 1997 33ft 5th wheels 2 slides. My slide in Living room is over 11ft. I finally got cooling OK I like it cold 72°F but when I go to sleep I like it much cooler 62-64°F. Here is my problem. the roof where A/C is at got a leak . was like it when I bought it. So on one side of a/c the Wood under the rubber roofing got rotten . So a friend sealed off the space between roof and a/c to stop water leaking Under rv when it is raining. Well when did that he plugged up the drain hole on the a/c unit. witch now I can't use my A/C . i live near Boise,Idaho so it can get over 100° I cool place down also with a big house water cooler. So I switch back and forth between the AC and the water cooler depending on what the temperature is outside. Plus if it's cloudy or Smoky I can't run the water cooler so I have to use the AC. Well now I can't because he plugged drain openings. Now my friend is wanting me to put in one of those roll around portable AC units. He doesn't know any information on it he just says all it's going to use less electricity than your roof one his judging at by the kind of AC he has which has an on and off switch and a fan switch attached to the piece that comes down into the trailer and blows out to little slots on the back and front side well I have Central AC in mine I have five ac ducts in my ceiling. When I tried to talk to him about that type of AC is not going to cool down my 32ft trailer and why it won't work nowhere near as good as the way I've got mine set up now I run two fans one of the fans is at the front of the bedroom door right underneath one of the vents that blows makes it to vents blowing into the bedroom which will keep my bedroom around 73-75°. well because I have alot cats I put the in the bedroom close the door. I sleep in the Living room. do now he is telling me to put a window ac in the bedroom and run it 24/7. and run a portable one in my living room. I told him that will jack up My bill really high. Because the portable one I know won't cool the living room. he keeps telling me my bill will be less . if I run a 14,000btu in living room and a 5,000btus in bedroom that 19,000btu compared to the 15,000 On my roof. Well my AC is central his is not and blows out in the front of his old motorhome he has. He also told me to get rid of my water cool. and put a window on in. That will also run my bill very high. My electric bill has never gone over 100$. and I run a lot of power I run also a 14.5 cubft refrigerator 2- 18in fans. A air purifier, a dehumidifier when I'm not running the water cooler because it pulls the water out of my walls. 3- electric water fountains for my animals plus portable dishwasher. I'm on a very low income less then 900$. I don't know what to do.

Hey just came across this video I had the same problem with my ac that came with the camper it was super crazy loud and just not efficient. I looked on RU-vid to find out what I can do and came across a lot of videos of customizing the ducting inside for better airflow and I am not a handyman by all means and I just dove in and tried it. It definitely did not come out as good as the ones on RU-vid but if you get the idea of airflow it will work and it worked soooo good and lowered the noise big time.

Just bought my first rv a fix as I go 84 Winnebago 33 ft. So I’m just going to gut it and redo without the previous ideas of what should go in/on an rv. That’s how I stumbled on your channel . I keep thinking , why have that thing up there if it doesn’t work the I need it to, when I need it to. Never mind the weight and gas mileage lost. I’m thinking just get one of those and replace the roof top with a fantastic fan. I’m going to put on a new roof anyway. This will mainly be for a bunch of little ones 10 and under so open flames/ propane are a flat out no go. I think this whole tiny house rv life has people challenging the whole rv product narrative. I’m taking out the fridge and going with a residential one. Good luck and thanks!
@clydealspaugh8701
@clydealspaugh8701 6 лет назад
Hi Kevin Lamarr. I also have a vintage Winnebago. Mine is a 1987, 22 foot Chieftan. I urge you to do your research before you do too much work. There are many options and each has both advantages and disadvantages. Will you be boondocking a lot? Will you mostly be camping with hookups? How long will you be RVing on any trip? These answers will have a large effect on your renovation choices. You mentioned going to a residential fridge. Many people have done that. Some things to consider are that residential fridges are not designed to take the movement that RVs often experience. It could lessen the life of the fridge. The manufacturer's warranty could be effected by installation in an RV too. What are the power requirements and can you support them? BTW, with the size and weight of the vehicle, taking off the rooftop a/c unit isn't going to have a significant effect on your gas mileage. I'm happy if I can get 7 mpg out of the Chevy 454 that powers my rig. Of course it is a 12,000 pound vehicle so it takes a bit of power to haul itself down the road-LOL. I do a lot of dry camping or boondocking, so I have spent most of my efforts in setting up the power system. Replace all lights with LED bulbs, increase size of battery bank, install solar and etc... BTW, those original fixtures take automotive bulbs which consume about 30 watts each. The LED replacements in the same fixtures consume only 3 watts each. I manage the pennies and the dollars manage themselves. If you are going to be camping with a bunch of little ones, water conservation should also be one of your focal points. There are a bunch of good strategies you can learn from various RU-vidrs. One that I have adopted is to use a garden sprayer as a hand washing station. I got a one gallon sprayer and painted it black using cheap spray paint. I fill it with water and set it on a sunny corner of a picnic table. Solar power makes it a great warm water hand washing station and uses only a minimum of water and no gas or electric power. Cleaning hands before going inside also helps to keep the RV cleaner. Good luck with your labor of love. Vintage rigs are a happy addiction.

clyde alspaugh I just will be doing weekend type stuff with the kids nothing major. I’m a truck driver and manage without any of that stuff. As a veteran I have done with far less. I just see to many people spend crazy money on a school bus yet don’t even get new tires or ujoints . I see people trying to live the “ nomad “ life and when the vehicle breaks down they don’t have any money to fix it. I’m just going to enjoy them research, the people and getting these kids out of the city so they can see something other than deprivation . It’s going to be the start of making millions off my videos too! 😂
@clydealspaugh8701
@clydealspaugh8701 6 лет назад
Very cool Kevin. Thanks for serving. I did 20 in the navy myself. Yes, you have a point about the mechanical aspects of the rigs. Especially older rigs. I had to replace 4 of my 6 tires because they were aged out of service. They still looked good, but they were almost 15 years old. Long past their service life. I also had to remove the drop down bunk over the driver area because even when completely empty, the rig was too heavy on the front axle. (according to the tag on the door panel) Removing the bunk and hardware got me within weight specs, but just barely. Fat people have to ride in back-LOL. I had a truck mechanic inspect the front suspension. The result was normal wear for a vehicle of its age, but no excessive wear to be concerned about. I dodged the bullet on that one. The chassis is a Chevy P-30 and the body was built by Winnebago. Apparently, the two companies had a communication failure about the GAWR of the front axle. Its all good now though. Being that you will be weekending rather than taking trips of several weeks, you have more options. Like you said, for yourself you can keep it pretty basic. But as you also mentioned, the kids need a bit more creature comforts-LOL. This year, I want to remove the dining area and replace it with a long couch and a swing away table at each end. The couch will double as a single bed and there will be storage underneath it. That is one challenge of a vintage RV. No bins. Or very little in the way of bins. I got a hitch platform and built a box on it for storage. It helps a lot. You have a great calling getting the kids out of the city occasionally. It will be an enjoyable challenge, I'm sure. I look forward to seeing you and the kids in your videos. Kids always help videos have good viewership. Keep me posted, my friend.

When I had a trailer in the Poconos and later at the Jersey shore my husband and I rented a tank for propane. It has been quite a few years ago but I think it was a hundred to one fifty pound tank. It was much cheaper than paying for 20 pound tank refills all the time.

Since it's a single hose unit, it take the hot air already inside and blows it but then probably blows some of it outside, so you might even lose heat using it in the winter because of the vacuum it creates. I'm wondering how well dual hose units work under 32 though.

Many people have the right idea about portable AC units. The fact is that a single hose unit is NOT an energy efficient unit. It is using the air within the trailer to either heat or cool the air. When you are in AC mode you are taking the air you just cooled to cool the condenser of the unit. You are then just recirculating hot air and at the same time adding more heat by the number of BTU's the unit takes to run. It is a lose lose situation. The only way to have any gain of cooling is to use the outside air to cool the unit while the unit cools the interior of the RV. This means that only dual hose units actually provide any meaningful cooling. People just don't have a good understanding of what is happening by using these portable units without hoses connected to the outside and it doesn't make any difference if you are trying to heat or cool a space.

You bought the wrong unit for RV. Always buy the units with two vents that go to the outside. It takes air from outside to cool the condenser and throws it back outside. Your machine blows that air out, creates vacuum in an RV and hot air from the outside get sucked in through all the cracks. Bad choice
@MYTOYMAKERZ
@MYTOYMAKERZ 6 лет назад
- All that is needed is to crack a window - no not break it - just open it just about 1/4" if that much but the window closest to the unit the better. Reason is the unit will get its air closer to itself without a draft. Good Choice......
@dylanreischling4151
@dylanreischling4151 5 лет назад
KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid no it is a bad choice. Dual hose ac units have no contact between the inside air and outside air. By cracking a window it sucks in hot air basically ruining the point of even using a ac unit
@squidben5780
@squidben5780 5 лет назад
@@dylanreischling4151 exactly plus almost all portable ac units like this one are 25% less efficient so this units is not 12 000 but but 8000 btu and uses almost twice the electricity, so unless You don't have the space, not really a good choice.

Using solar to run that you would need literally thousands of watts of solar panels and thousands of amp hours in your battery bank so really to run an air conditioner or electric heater with solar isn't really practical for most people off-grid that's why most people off grid just use propane heaters like the Buddy heaters even if they're unsafe most people just can't afford to use any other type of heater and portable water coolers like from portacool that can be run by solar setups because they don't use hardly any watts compared to an actual air conditioner and they don't cool nearly as good but they're a lot better than nothing for sure.

So here the deal on RV AC units. You can set the temperature to whatever you want but a 13,500 BTU AC unit will only keep the RV 20 cooler than the out side temp. So if it's huny outside the best you could hope for inside is 80. One solution would be to install two 13500 or 15000 BTU AC units. But then you would need 50 amp service. That portable AC unit will work at your homestead but may not at a RV park. Could blow the parks circuit breakers, then nobody would have power. Love the channel, keep up the good work. D.T
