I hope that this comment was intended facetiously. Anyone who knows this piece realizes that this band plays the sh-- out of it. My compliments to director Julius Tolentino and his student band. Bill Kirchner, instructor, "Music of Duke Ellington" course (2004-present), Manhattan School of Music

You’re completely right what I meant to say was…. This band so completely amazing it out does duke ellingtons own band. The calibre of music here are so incredibly high they definitely the leading music on the states without a shadow of a doubt. I can think is I’m getting rid of all my duke Ellington recordings and just listening to this band exclusively. That better?

@@jonburton1935 Well, yes and no. To be sure, this is a superb student band--one of the best I've ever heard. But to compare it to one of the greatest ensembles in jazz history (hear the 1937 and 1956 Ellington recordings of "D & C in Blue") is pointless. We can--and should-- give credit where it's due without indulging in hyperbole.
