Welcome to my Channel,
My name is James and I live full time in my tiny van, however this is not just a van life channel. I enjoy travel, food and drink and making videos 🙂
When I turned 50 I decided I’d had enough of the rat race and working long hours just to pay rent and bills, life was passing me by and I needed a drastic change.
FAQ
Where is Helen?
Helen has a responsible full time job and two children so unfortunately she can’t join me on every trip. I really wish she could.
What equipment do you use?
My vlogging camera is a GoPro Hero 9 but I also use my pixel 6a phone and Lumix G80 camera for other footage
For editing, I used Premiere Pro on an old laptop but I’m saving to buy a more powerful computer.
Do you have children?
Yes I have a 6yr old daughter who lives with her mum but I see her quite a lot. I don’t usually put her on the vlogs and if I do, I block out her face for privacy reasons. I also have a grown up son.
How do you fund your lifestyle?
I don’t need as much to live these days since going full time van life but I receive a small percentage of income from the ads that RU-vid put on the videos.
Why the sponsored videos?
I only accept sponsorship from companies I use and trust, this is my fulltime job and my income, it’s how I support my family. (I have Patreon if you prefer videos with no ads).
How do I contact you?
Please contact me here: james@bythecurb.co.uk

Brought back memories! I did my basic training at RAF Swinderby, just a few miles from there. When we got day passes, we had some great times there in 1964. Remember the great pubs. Thanks for that! Age 79 now!

I'm also 79, and was there in '69. Pretty gruelling drill programme because our intake was earmarked for route lining at Charly's investiture. Don't remember spending any time in Newark. I do recall a few days training in Sherwood forest at the end of which we had an assault course with a water filled tunnel. Which was OPTIONAL! 😂😂😂

Transatlantic crossings gave rise to POSH. Port (left) out because you were south facing and got the sun. Starboard home (back to UK) for the same reason.

+1 My addled memory is telling me it was the crossing to Imperial India and the idea was to be OUT of the sun ☀️😊. Wanting the sun is a very modern concept. The people who had tans were agricultural labourers and the POSH people didn't want to look like THOSE people. 😱

Port side out ( left ), Starboard home (right). This applied mainly to North Atlantic Cruises between Europe and North America. It allowed passengers an "equatorial view" which rendered the cabins to be much brighter in both directions of travel.

James, your face when Helen was telling you about Prince Rupert was a picture and when you fast forwarded her talking, I was killing myself laughing. What lovely people Unket Sorry if spelling is wrong) and Dev were. The name of the restaurant was The Everest Inn and it said on the menu Under new management and the name was changing to Baseri. Brought back bike memories as a child! I had a second hand Raleigh Chopper (oooh ahhhh). I customised it with a red fur seat and twin arials, all the power in the world with 3 speed sturmy archer gears! It used to hit a speed wobble at 20 miles an hour down hill where the whole bike would shake (not safe), those were the days! Used to thrash it down Dykes Hall road down into Hillsborough as a kid! The grifter was the one with the banana shaped seat, then the BMX's followed. We never had BMX's too much money with 3 kids in the family!
