For anyone thinking of upgrading or buying a PC please note that the Intel 14th Gen (which is likely to be predominately just a refresh) is due out in the next few months.

I ended up upgrading to a 13900k and a 4090...absolutely wonderful combo for MSFS. Huge bump in performance from my previous 10850k and 3080.

I was all ready to move up to completely new Socket AM5 system, but as it turns out my 4 yr old 3900 CPU will happily let my new 4090 run up to 99% utilisation on my Aero. I.e. it can be worth trying to update a single component before going all in. Maybe a super-complex airliner would slow me up, but I don’t fly those at the mo’

Great stuff as always Mark (and thanks to Dan). I have just ordered my new PC (from another supplier). I’ve made a big investment including the 4090. The only thing I haven’t done is include a separate SSD for MSFS. I have a 2TB SSD with a 4TB HD. I plan to only use the new PC for MSFS, my old one still runs well for all other stuff (Simbrief, Navigraph etc). So I’m sure all will go well. Looking forward to the next video to see the system in action. Keep up the good work!!

Updated recently to a 4090 64k of ram which I didnt need for msfs2020 but maybe it could help with the multi threading and fully 64bit msfs2024. 1000w power unit. Intel chip runs at 5.2ghz overclocked but Im concentraing on sorting out VR. I have the Oculus Pro and its taking a lot of brain power to get it going right - I'm a little old to sit and sort out. I'll get there eventually. Great vid again Mark.

Thanks, Mark, for another great video, and especially to Dan for sharing his knowledge. I wonder if the company ship free to Northern Ireland? I'm in the process of sweet talking my wife into buying herself some nice things at the moment, and she keeps saying why don't you go out and buy some nice cloths. I am not quite there yet, so I'll just keep encouraging to keep buying anything she would want. Then I'll slip in the old, "my computer is really annoying me and is no longer good for flight simming" ( even though its a 3 year old then high spec with a RTX 3090 card in it). Come on we've all done it. Give her another month then the sob story begins, and thank god she hasn't a clue about PC's and won't realise the very high spec I'll be going for. All being well the big heavy box with all it's goodies will be coming though the front door shortly, or I'll be going out that door with my suitcase.

Do NOT use this video's parts as a guide. It's a terrible selection of outdated, inferior, end-of-life equipment as far as CPU\Mobo are concerned. Any AMD X3D CPU is a far superior choice, especially 7000 series X3D chips.
@SimHangerFS
@SimHangerFS 11 месяцев назад
Please ignore the AMD fanboy comments, this video is designed exactly to help people avoid this sort of thing. As per my referenced videos at the beginning of this video we have already established the excellent performance of the 7800X3D chip (I recommend it fully for flightsim only use). The example used in this video was purely to offer a PC within a price point that would function well for both flightsim and productivity tasks. Also note AMD 5800X3D is now end of life.

I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, but I bought the 7800X3D and a 4090 NVIDIA card. During flight it starts with FPS in the 70s on VATSIM, but 30 mins or so into the flight the FPS starts dewindling to the 20s and sometimes below, with both CPU and GPU utilization in the 30% or lower!!!

Hey Sir. Thank you very much for your great Videos to Ryzen 7800X3D and 7950X3D. Now i canched the System from 13900K to 7950X3D and RogStrix X670E-F, with my 4090. WOW. After Hours of best Setup for the 7950X3D, it works so much better in VR. Realy Great. Xplan 11, 12, DCS and of course MSFS. Now my RTX 4090 can give the Performance it have. This CPU is Amazing. The best Result is to turn off the Hyperthreading too. For Simmer. And Cache Option in Bios. The Ram works perfect at 6000 cl30. Now VR Flightsim is so smooth und much more Power. Thank you very much for your Work and Tips. My 13900K give me 600Euros. The Change ist OK. 🙂 Now its Time, to let come Crystal :-) (HP Reverb)

Are NVidia cards that much better for MSFS than AMD particularly in VR. I was looking to build a dedicated flight sim rig with a 7800X3D and 6700XT but now I am considering an NVidia card but they are so much more expensive. What would you recommend?

After trying some other systems, I finally ended up with i7-13700, z790 plus mobo, 32gb ddr5, RTX 4070. This has allowed me to finally run the sim with high and ultra settings, virtually no stuttering etc. Have has on very rare occasions that a small stutter happens when in the Fenix a320 landing at a high resolution airport with traffic etc.

Your Windows key is tied to your motherboard but if you are repairing your PC you can reactivate the key but you will need to have a copy of it. MSFS is tied to your Microsoft account so wouldn’t be affected.

You can never keep up with pc hardware, it dont matter how much better it seems but each new upgrade is very mimimal. Its getting ridiculous and nothing but greed by these companies charging so much money for hardware. You need about $10K to build a system these days if you were to put all the lastest gadgets and within a couple of years its worth less than a third of it. It does in australia anyways. Its only been 5yrs or so where we only had 8th gen processors and we already up to 14th. Its as ridiculous as smartphones that come out every year with only mimimal improvements or none at all. I only rebuilt my system 3yrs ago to an 8700k and a 2060 rog strix and ppl claim that its old. Its just utter madness. My flight sim runs just fine even on high settings with my current setup. I dont understand why ppl have a need to upgrade every year to the newest hardware and the only reason why they are getting to ridiculous prices. As soon as they are only a few years old the hardware plummets and is basically worthless and just proves how overinflated pc hardware really is. The current world we live in is just looting the world of its wealth and all these corporations are just ripping everyone off, but in the end it is the consumer who are ripping themselves off by catering to these costs and buying these products. Not to mention the increase in power bills just to run these things. I only rebuild my system every 7yrs or so and I have no plans to buy new hardware for at least another 3-4yrs. By then I will need $20k to rebuild a system. Just crazy.

The old 5800x3D CPU beats this Intel for flight sims, this is a bad video that steers newbies in the wrong direction.... The 7800X3D is about 40% faster than this, will have 2-3 more generations of drop-in CPU upgrade options vs the Intel's 0, it's 5nm vs Intel's 10nm (literally twice as advanced), it uses less power, produces less heat, and offers more performance... At least change the title to something like "Intel fanboy recommends the wrong pc for flight sims".
@SimHangerFS
@SimHangerFS 11 месяцев назад
Perhaps if you had paid attention to the video you would have picked up on the recommendation that the 7800X3D was better at flight sim than the 13700KF, but the intel chip was selected on this occasion as it outperforms the Ryzen chip in productivity tasks, thus was a better all rounder. Secondly the 5800X3D again was highlighted as a good chip but not recommended as it's platform is no longer being developed. This video has been produced exactly to help newbies steer clear of the biased fanboy recommendations.
