Set a realistic goal to stock your pantry with the foods that your family likes to eat. Our goal is to have a continuous 3-month supply of food. You set the goal that makes the most sense for your family. You do not have to get it all today. Develop a plan and make steady progress.

Sometimes when I make spaghetti, I put a can of carrots in with the sauce. They are so mushy it’s easy to mash into the sauce and kids never know.

Our little tip is a slogan we say to each other if they are going to the store for anything... "Remember the pantry. " Every trip to the store grab something. Normally it is something on sale to replace something we know we have used. Also, on the rare occasion that we have to make an emergency run to the store for something, we will grab about a years worth because we apparently should have had it in stock to begin with.

I'm so grateful I found your channel a few years ago. When the pandemic hit last year, I didn't need to run out and panic shop, I had toilet paper, and my children suddenly thought I was a genius for being a prepper. Prepping has become a way of life and I have sucked my husband in.... a little bit. Thanks for the continued great content!

For our short term storage, I include cooked/dehydrated beans, rice, and pasta. If there’s an emergency and water is gone, it requires little fuel to heat, or water to rehydrate.

The method we use for our 2 person food storage is we restock in 4s for example this week we added 4 cans of cannellini beans last week we stocked 4 extra cans of black beans this makes it easy to restock on a budget... My husband is allergic to peanuts and Im allergic to snap peas we only stock food for us because we are the only ones in our household because of that we also make sure to donate to the local food pantry and it helps us keep things rotating.... I have a pantry and freezer video if you would like to see stocking pantry and freezer for 2. I hope this is helpful for a smaller family.

I love how you said, "Do you have teenagers that are starving".it puts into perspective that Children and pets begin starving when their eyes open every day, in IDEAL conditions, not to mention SHTF..I don't have kids but I remember easily outeating my 6' 200lb stepdad by near twice... then for Some people whose families have more of an addictive personality than others...(ie kids that throw tantrums when games/toys/devices are removed from them) may want to consider having snacks or hard candy to give their kids mouth something to do as well as filling those pleasure sensors! God Bless Y'all!

👍🏻❤️. One thing I started to do to help me track how quickly we consumed each product is I date the container when I open it. Example... I dated my avocado oil Jan 10th, I finished it off March 3rd. This way I can judge how much I need to have for my set storage goals. I used 10 lbs of flour in 2 months.... you get the idea. I used too write lists but we have a list thief and I can never keep track! I found labeled cartons a good record keeping tool for me👍🏻 than I can write on a list in a dedicated notepad in my cellar how long items typically last. I have 4 jars of avocado oil, check our usage rate in the book, >2 months , that will last 7-8 months, next trip I will pick up 3 more bottles.

We are having a huge garage sale this summer. My husband and I will split the profit. I will spend mine on refilling our pantry to get to one year of food. My husband will use his half on storage of gasoline, some ammo, and a new bicycle. I also sell jams at the farmer's market. The money from this summer will go toward purchasing a freeze dryer. Thanks for all your good ideas.

@@TheProvidentPrepper you have to check the cottage laws for your state. In Idaho we can sell, baked goods, produce ,jam, honey, eggs and some other items. The license is our business license which is basically for paying sales tax. Most of the craft fairs here will let you sell as well and some don't ask for a license.

Where we have been lacking is developing a menu plan to insure we have all the ingredients we need, and also we need to make a solid effort to keep our inventory up-to-date. I think this video and others in this series will help us be better prepared. Thanks for sharing your ideas with all of us!

My companion said at the beginning of winter:"We'll NEVER eat those 12 big jars of garnished sauerkraut". Winter's over and guss what? All gone, and I stock up for the next winter now. Same for canned duck and beans casserole, we eat that about every 2 weeks, too, easy for busy days. The style of ready to eat canned goods vary and depend on the different cultures, but wether you're in US, France or somewhere else, you'll find your favorite and stock up.

@TheRickie41 3 года назад
@@KMF3 yes, here in France we call it canard confit, it's boiled slowly in duck fat, for some hours, until cooked, and canned. We eat it with mogettes, a sort of white beans, in a casserole that goes into the oven. Hearty and VERY nourrishing on cold winter days. Google or search for cassoulet de canard and you'll find it.

Wonderful video! Happy 115th anniversary (last Sunday! Of the Great 1906 San Francisco Earthquake (& Fire) when the earth shook, & shook & shook, & the sky burned! This is why we use April in Northern California as one of our 6th month check your emergency supplies times (other is Oct because of the 1989 quake). I love the idea of getting folks to think of a 2 week menu as a starting place! Very doable when getting the neighborhood on board. @JonathanBJones
@JonathanBJones 3 года назад
So much depends on your climate and your home. I am guessing you live in an area that gets quite cold for an extended amount of time? If you have a basement, that will tend to stay a bit warmer due to the ground insulation. If not, you will want to choose an area of your home to stay warm in...likely an interior area or an area that gets some strong sun coming in and can then be insulated. You may need to move the cans to that area and will be using some of them. If you have dry goods in cans, they will be fine. Only the cans with liquids will be a problem. If you want to explore this further, connect with us on our contact page. These are tough challenges, and I am excited that you are thinking things through...well done! Thanks for being part of the solution!!
