Watch as one of our youngest patients receives her first chiropractic treatment! When most of our parents bring an infant in for their first exam and treatment they get SO NERVOUS about what an adjustment on their newborn will be like. They fear it will involve cracks and pops and strong, forceful maneuvers by the chiropractors. But guess what? After the appointment parents are generally SHOCKED by how gentle the appointment is. We usually hear a lot of comments like ‘that’s all they needed?’ Or ‘ that’s all you are going to do?’ The answer is YES!
Infants need a detailed spinal exam. It doesn’t matter if a birth is vaginal, unassisted, unmedicated, at home, a birth center or a hospital, or if it was cesarean or vacuum assisted - ALL INFANTS need a chiropractic exam. Birth is one of the most physically taxing journeys any of us will ever take. Stressful on the head, jaw, neck and spine - these tiny bodies may need some assistance to feel comfortable after they are born.
Pediatric chiropractors are licensed and skilled in performing spinal exams and when necessary treatment. While we call our treatment an adjustment, for most infants it resembles massage and stretching. We are applying specific and necessary adjustments to tiny spinal and extremity joints, but you’ll see no popping here. Because babies do not have decades of poor posture, multiple injuries, physical, chemical or emotional stress - adjustments work quickly and are extremely effective. Best of all, adjustments are SAFE.
While all NEWBORNS should receive chiropractic care. We strongly advise it if your baby is experiencing colic, torticollis (preferred head position), reflux, spitting up, nursing difficulties, sleep difficulties, jaw clicking, excessive crying or other symptoms.
