Today's UK travel video comes from Newbury in Berkshire. Following a recommendation from a subscriber I headed north to check out this town that lies 60 miles west of London.
I managed to park for free and explore a really impressive town centre. Lots of old buildings, a fantastic selection of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants.
No pasty shop unfortunately !
Then there's the river/canal with all its canal boats and Victoria park to relax in. There's a museum and The Corn Exchange which is a theatre, cinema and concert venue. There's public toilets opposite the museum in the car park for those that are thinking of wild camping/stealth camping.
Other than that, a quick look on Google brings up a few campsites a short drive away.
I was really impressed with Newbury and will be coming back here again.

The Kennet centre isn't new. It was built in the 70s/80s. Back in the 90s, it was a decent place to shop in. Now, half the units are empty and people seem to cut through it to get somewhere else. Currently, the centre owners are trying to get planning permission to redevelopment the whole Kennet centre except the cinema

I worked in Newbury in the 80's/90's for Vodafone who utilized various buildings around the town for their offices and Switching. Their HQ is now in one main, new build on the A34 driving into Newbury from the M4. Many people working for the company live in and around Newbury. Bayer the Pharmaceutical company were also a big employer based in Newbury at the same time. A very affluent town.

Also Catherine, Princess of Wales was brought up in Bucklebury, a small village just outside Newbury, 4 / 5 miles to the North East. Highclere Castle (Downton Abbey) is just a couple of miles South of the Market Town, as is Watership Down and Greenham Common.

The other shopping area, Parkway, used to house Debenhams which went bust, and John Lewis, who pulled out. Big stores, so now closed.

That whole new bit(2011 lol) you went into was Parkway shopping centre, the big empty building was Debenhams and is becoming a Primark. Served Cheggers multiple times when he came in shopping, nice guy!

Also there used to be a pasty shop next to the bridge which closed, I know Griffins do sausage rolls not sure about pasties.

The Kennet centre was the original shopping centre, parkway opened and quite a few shops moved down. It’s up for redevelopment, want to build hundreds of flats.
