That ref is a disgrace, no excuses as you didn't need VAR to see that that Southampton player was playacting and went down with little to no contact. That clearly wasn't a headbutt. If you can't see that that's clear play acting then you shouldn't be reffing the game. I suggest that Ref will be straight down the bookies after the game to collect his winnings.
They don't book them for clear contact, they unfortunately book them for the action and the gesture of aggression which is trying to press their head into the opposing player. they know the player didn't really get hurt but it's accordance to the law in a sense
Agree with you entirely. If Chris Kavanagh on VAR and Craig Pawson did their jobs to the letter of the law, both players should have been sent off (Schar for the "headbutt" and Diaz fir the initial challenge and simulation). A pragmatic ref would have just booked them both to keep the game at 11 a side. Well done to Newcastle for their win. Hope they get that red card rescinded.

How Diaz is not retrospectively punished for blatant deception is beyond me . Should be at least a 5 match ban . That would cut out that kind of scummy behavior real fast

I like the radio commentary as a contrast to the official I often seek out both for cheap thrills. I hope they return to Radio commentary and this was just a blip.
Today the boys had to dig deep and fight for that win. Couldn’t be more proud. It’s always nervy playing newly promoted sides because you don’t know what to expect. Look at Ipswich today, they played Liverpool off the park in that first half. Proud of the squad, fought for eachother. Others on this thread have rightly asked "where are the Radio Newcastle Commentators?" They are always wonderfully genuine and enthusiastic and have made games like the Spurs annihilation even more fun. It would have been much more interesting to see what THEY made of the Diaz antics and Schar dismissal?
I wondered that too. Would love to hear John Anderson's reaction to the sending off and Matthew Raisbeck nearly smashing his vocal chords when Joelinton scored.
VAR looked at it too, Schar shouldn't have given the ref or VAR the opportunity to give him a red. Schar needs to take responsibility for his own actions, quit blaming everyone else.

But Diaz should have gone too, a yellow for the blatant shove on Schar, and another for the vile play acting pretending he'd been shot in the head. He shouldn't have squared up, asking for trouble, but the more I see the replays he didn't actually move his head, he just got in Diaz's face and the cheat moved towards him before the sniper got him. Hopefully downgraded to yellow after an appeal. And what about the fella who took out Bruno before it all? Took an age for Pawson to even blow for a foul (which gave Diaz the time for his cowardly cheap shot in the back) and should've been a yellow for him too.

The clubs have to come together to make sure that the standard of refereeing is much higher a standard than that. That ref should be fined for that, as it was clear playacting from that Southampton player who went down like a dreadful actor from a b - movie. Cut his wage for that game and even suspend him for two games for making such a foolish decision.
How is that a red? I could see two yellows for Ben Diaz, one for the initial push and the second for the simulation but red to Scharr for that is disgusting. Diving needs to be dealt with strongly.
That’s so embarrassing from Brereron Diaz. How can you push someone over from behind without them seeing you, then laugh in their face when they’re on the floor, then when they react you go crying and rolling on the floor.
Sometimes gamesmanship backfires. Diaz ruined the game and weakened his side, not to mention he couldn't hit a barn door. Occasionally, karma responds instantly. Hope Schar's suspension is rescinded after appeal. Pawson is utterly feckless - nowhere near standard of officiating for a top league, but as Keith Downie states in his video, VAR is there to correct bad decisions and didn't. Hats off to Isak for the superb assist and Joelinton for the world class finish. An agonising 3 points but Toon battled through it.

Pathetic reaction from BBD but that’s football today and Schar knows that. We done brilliantly to grind out the win now we have a tough game away next week without Schar
@@chrisoconnor8392 havent you seen the game.. newcastle played with 10 players early in the game .. the goal came before the end of first half... newcastle played very well in defense and had some chances in attack with 10 player.. so yes, this is the fighting spirit i want to see more from Newcastle

We were dreadful throughout. 3 shots to their 19....posession was all theirs, 1 shot on target...180 passes to their 650...yes of course we were great. Wake up. You obviously watching a different match, or one of clueless fans that wear rose coloured glasses and can't see what's infront of their nose, like most of our fans that need a reality check. Where did you watch it.....the highlights on you tube or match of the day. Dreadful display

The world isn't like that, be realistic...they played terrible, fan or no fan ya can't go thinking they're the best, reality had to kick in with a lot of our deluded fans...by the looks youre one of them deluded fans. There wasn't anything magnificent about the performance on Saturday...nothing at all.
