He was a genius. I worked for him for 2 summers in Martha's Vineyard with his boat 'Pat's'. Brilliant. A gentleman and a kind soul. RIP. May your beautiful designs with their speed, and graceful lines live forever. ♡

Built Ocean Surfer. At least in buildable boats without strain gauges and all that jazz, balsa core got you most of the way there.

Newik's CHEERS proa placed 3rd in the '68 OSTAR, and his trimarans, like MOXIE and ROGUE WAVE really set the standard for multihull designs. My personal favourite design remains the redoubtable VALs, which Newick described as being"...a Transatlantic daysailor"...
