The younger generation has to grow up listening to crappy music from Drake, Ariana grande, the star is born soundtrack, Taylor swift and Billie eilish.
1:36 Bobby is holding his own here but his brother, part of back up dancer group Heart and Soul new the steps and basically walked thru this routine with ease. I don't think they were out shined at all, in fact each dancer can be studied for staunch Impeccableness.
Bobby was never out of breath! All that dancing and could still sing without a bump in his vocals. He was really one of the greatest performers back then❤❤❤
I totally agree, those were the good old days, these shows nowadays can't compare to. the incredibly magical performances we've witnesed and enjoyed back then, no offense but I honestly don't watch any of the shows anymore, without a Bobby Brown, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson or Prince electrifying standing ovation show stopper for me it just doesn't hold my interest so I just bypass them altogether, not saying that the nowadays performers aren't good or talented and kudos to them all but well It's just best for me to leave well enough alone
I keep telling these young cats, there really was a time when Bobby was king of R&B. This is Exhibit A. That crowd was cheering before he even started performing.
Well, a lot of people knew LA/Babyface and Teddy did the tracks that made the hits. That one album gave him a good run. It came out in 1988, but the Grammy came in 1990. King of R&B???? Not really, that's just some shit Whitney started and people cling to. Stevie Wonder is the King of R&B. As far as new vocalists...Aaron Hall was the best. But after that album, it was all downhill. Great performer, but not the King (Smokey was still getting Grammy's, so was Aretha and Gladys and Anita.
You are exaggerating he was never the " King of R&B " as there were more successful artists even during his hottest period which cooled quickly as his greatest album contained most of his big hits. It's more accurate to say for a few short years he was the heartthrob of young girls and the most exciting dancer we have seen since James Brown. The songs were hot and so was Bobby and he blew it all. I can compare him with how hot Lauryn Hill became with " The Miseducation " only to fall from the top rather quickly. As for the crowd they appeared mostly white as they should have been jumping up and down and grooving with the energy instead of sitting largely still.
Youngsters out there, I'm 48 years old. I was 15 when Dont be cruel was released and you couldn't cut the radio on or the TV on without either listening watching a single from that album. It was truly a world wide phenomenon at that time. Had he stayed clean off the stage and truly put in that work like MJ, he could have truly taken it to that level. The prime Bobby's career only lasted 3 albums from 1986-1992. He still a R&B King to me. Even though he struggles to keep up on stage these days, I know what he used to do because I saw him at the end of his prime in 1997 during the home again tour. Much love and respect always to the King of Stage
I was 14 and it's cool to hear someone else experienced Bobby the same way I did back in 1988. There has been nothing like that "phenomenon" since. I remember going to a New Edition, Bobby Brown, Al B Sure, concert in 1989, and couldn't believe how much better his performance was than his former group, and New Edition always comes correct. Bobby was simply "the man"!
He might not have been on top for very long, but when he was, he was the best. No one could out perform him, including his ex-band mates New Edition. Even New Edition knew how great he was..... to this day, they still have mad respect for him and what he was able to accomplish on his own back in the late 80s early 90s. What's even crazier is that he was only 19-20 years old around the time of this video. #newjackswingking
Bobby Brown to me was underrated as a dancer this man has some of the coldest moves I ever seen. Michael Jackson and MC Hammer known for they dance moves but Bobby was right there with them.
Chasing Greatness I would chose Bobbi over any dancer. He is creative, sexy, style and down to earth. MJ did the same dance over and over, MC hammer one dance. Bobbi doing everything. A Real Black man, 🌺
@@jadelove1820 Michael did the same dance over and over? I'm sure you haven't seen many of his performances and tours. he had dance routines for every song. he of course had some moves that can be repetitive as his signature moves but he had many different dance routines and was so creative and his ability to dance was unbelievably smooth
This is exactly why he couldn’t be contained within New Edition. Be clear I LOVE them!! This was my era and I’m a SUPER fan STILL. However, there’s always that ONE breakout star in a group and that was BOBBY. And shit Johnny Gill is in a league of his own. He helped to turn them into grown ass men lol but yes Tyiana…Bobby was a mf BEAST.
Bluesugar58, Yesssss! The way he would engage the audience and then jump in and out of step with Heart & Soul with perfect timing. Fluid.... Smh. He was his own hype man, own background dancer , own MC, AND the main attraction all in one. Great performer!
He is a prime example of WHAT drugs, alcohol and undisciplined lifestyle does to a person. The devil willing to give you, just about, whatever you want IF he can have your soul...THAT IS ALWAYS THE BARGAIN. It is your soul ( your most valued possession) he wants...and he will NOT settle for less. Many have sold their souls for fame, fortune and power; they learn too late that ETERNITY IN HELL is not worth it. It is weird that he would try to tempt JESUS with the same foolishness. Thank GOD that JESUS held HIS ground and would not buckle. If JESUS had, HE could not have saved my soul. I love YOU, JESUS, and thank YOU for loving me. Thank YOU, thank YOU, thank YOU😭👍🏾🙏🏾. Maranatha. 9/26/2021.
He pave the way for artists like Usher, Chris Brown, Neyo...I know of lot them like to compare themselves to MJ but there styles has Bobby Brown written all over...MJ was the King of Pop...Bobby was the King of R&B...
@@MsExcool He may very well be lip syncing, but he's definitely not just mouthing the words. There is air coming from his lungs. He's singing underneath the track.
He was so light on his feet, and what I like about him, he had his own dancing style, unlike other dancers who'd probably mimicked Michael Jackson at the time
Bobby Brown in his day was as good as Chris Brown is now. His voice was amazing, his dance moves were crazy, outrageous, he was good looking and sexy, and the ladies loved him
All that physical and precise dancing and still singing those notes, this guy was great. So much, that the most gorgeous gal in the world fell for him.
@@jamiepicketfenceteeth174 You are crazy! Whitney Houston was from East Orange, Newark NJ That "church" girl needed no introduction to hood life. She just another junky musician. An age old story. She just happened to make further in age than most.
lol these artists really have yall fooled haha... Its clear he is lip syncing lolll!! Impossible for him to sound that perfect singing live... When he sings and he is jumping up and down you dont hear no shifting in his voice or anything? Come on! lmaooo
@@lightbrown95 any of his other preformed and you can clearly tell he is singing live, he keeps that same balance. Personally i do think this is live. First its not the same pitch as the original songs. And he is speaking and changing tempo during mid song.
If Bobby would have sustained his talent over the years, he could arguably became one of the GREATS OF ALL TIME. BUT THE BOY WAS BAD AND U CAN'T TAKE NOTHING FROM HIM
Say what you want to about Bobby he was a damn good Dancer he made that shit look so easy nobody can ever take that from him much respect Bobby !🕺🔥🎧🎵🎤🔦💯
I don’t care how many times I hear these songs from Bobby , they feel like the first time of hearing it every time ! It’s so classic and refreshing 🔥🔥🔥🔥 they don’t have music like this now days 🥺
@@bobboberson2024 if you referring to the drug use..Whitney Houston's own bro admitted he got her started on the coco at an early age. The marriage was also arranged by the industry
Bobby was the fall guy for Whitney.... but what makes him a real man he never ever tried to defend himself or said anything to try to defame her in any kind away and for that he gets my total respect!!!
That one album Don't Be Cruel was like a greatest hits album for him. He had such great talent and charisma you would think he had a 20 year career of hits behind him out there preforming. You can't talk about R&B legends and not mention Bobby Brown.
James Brown brought the funk and the groove, Michael Jackson brought his electricfrying moonwalk and great vocals and then there is Bobby Brown swag, dance moves great vocals. Three incredible artist who all knew how to work the hell out of a stage floor. All three triple treats- can sing check, can dance oh yeah check, and last but not least mesmerising stage presence, yep check, check and check.
@Michael Davis it is well known in the black community that EVERYBODY in show busness stole their moves from James Brown and Jackie Wilson, mostly from the godfather of soul. Also from earlier black dance entertainers. Bill BoJangle Robinson, Mr. Moonwalk, back slide himself Bill Bailey from 1943. He was probably during that move in the 30's as well. Brothers was putting down some smooth steps for the other nations to steal when those other entertainers were slumming in the hood in the day.
All the black entertainer price, Michael, James brown and Bobby and others are the best ever every body copies us and love our talent and hate or skill level .. we are blessed and cursed at the same time. Look into it sons of slaves brought here on ships. Deut 28:68. Look at Sons of thunder or IUIC Israelites or my favorite HOI black Hebrew Israelites and learn more.
Bobby just could NOT contain all of his talent in a Group, He had to Break Out..."BOBBY WAS GOOD TO GO SOLO" hell yeah My man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I watch Bobby Brown, I get very teary eyed. He reminds me so much, even as a child, of my now deceased nephew. It's bittersweet when I watch his performances because I'm thinking of my nephew. Similar life paths; however, my nephew passed away at 41 because his drug, alcohol use and fighting landed him in a nursing home with a brain injury for the last 14 years of his life. The lesions on his brain took him off this heart. Thank God for sparing your life, Mr. Bobby Brown. You always have my support and encouragement.
The man can perform like nobody's business! He's a natural, with extreme confidence & dance ability. He's captivating. That move at 3:40 though...what! Who else replayed it over and over? Pretty awesome! So sorry he's had so much tragedy dealt to him, but I believe he's happily married now. God Bless him!
Well kids in my time, that's what we called a performance, you either had to sing the ish out of a song or rock the stage like a master, they were truly entertainers.
MC Hammer may have been regarded as the better dancer at the time but when you watch Bobby perform his music and dance just flowed as one that just put him at the top of his game. He had a excellent voice and his songs just kinda pulled you to the Dance floor, totally unique.
