Don't miss the 1.50 min mark, sorry about the bad Flip-Cam video. Newport Beach - Balboa Pier Flooded by High Tide 08-31-2011 11am. Photos at www.PatmanFilms.com
I mean Spain has gotten Tsunami's a bunch of times l'd haul too The worst one was on: 11/01/1755 Deaths: 2,214 Wave height: max. 18.30 m Caused by Earthquake in Portugal (Lisbon) with a magnitude of 8.5. The tsunami caused damages in 12 further countries. A total of 50,000 humans died. Water can beautiful yet terrifying.
Omg I jog on this stretch from 36th to the pier pretty often now in 2023 and it’s so interesting to see 1. The water reach where I would be swept away and 2. How the skyline has changed. I had no idea there were apartments there! Now where those apartments were is probably the road. Or the bars. Crazy how times change. This is a really cool time capsule for a lot of things
+hebneh I was on Catalina that day and my car was parked there, but it was parked a few rows back so it only a little bit of water on it, but we were scared when we got back as we were the only ones still left in the lot.
Brings back memories. I think it was 1980, and a photo was in the newspaper showing a guy paddling his kayak in front of my parents beach house on Balboa Boulevard.
This is a straight up tidal wave people!! I cannot believe i live in newport beach, and i didnt even here about this-until i randomly found this clip on RU-vid. I swear-California is goin dooown in the ocean!!
I remember this day, I was working in one of the houses my company van makes an cameo @ 3:31. Out of no where I heard the waves get loud and people screaming, but the craziest thing was seeing those cement fire pits and trash cans getting tossed around by the water like they were leaves.
Wow. I live for stuff like this ( displaced New Englander) Once upon a time I was driving 1A north in Hampton Beach NH, awesome late fall nor'easter blowing, lunar high tide, there was a traffic jam at the north end of the sea wall of crazies like me lining up for waves, I mean green water, coming up over the wall and over your car. It was wild, literally a ton of sea water hitting your car, the smell of salt water coming thru the car vents. Yeah I made three runs thru that with Aine Minogue on WGBH radio with Brian O'Donovan talking about Samhain and the return of the light in December. Or Provincetown harbor with the waves stopping 6 feet from George's Pizza back door.
Thanks for Replying. I have heard of how when the moon and our Sun are lined up the tide is higher. But I am a real Novice when it comes to these kind of things.
Oh geez! I don't remember this day--but it looks like it was memorable to those there--especially for the people who got the lot around their cars flooded. That stinks!
This happens in Boston harbor too during a certain ride and time of yr without a nor Easter off the coast, that's happening more and more along the coasts around the world due to global warming and melting polar and Antarctic sea ice.
i have never ever seen it get like that before, was it happening like that all the way up to Huntington or Seal? and does that happen often? like once every 10 years or was that like once in a lifetime?
Haven’t seen a high Tide like that its like 20% Considered Tsunami and 85% NOT considered tsunami. But i guess that the wind makes the high tide stronger and stronger but i dont really know the facts of low tide and high tide, And it’s kinda dangerous cuz it might damage the safe guard house thingy specially if there’s people on it. but the more important is they’re safe.... But for me the percent of dangerous is like 30% to 34% or less than, but the percent of the NOT dangerous is kinda like 70% above or 70% low, But i dont know..
yooooo somewhere in the vid you can prob see my fam’s beach house. It’s like less than a mile from there. Can’t believe I didn’t hear of this happening!
No do move the cars. Don't worry. That salt water is great for your vehicles. And the the rest of us certainly don't mind insurance premiums going up for stupid people if they were to get damaged.
