I cherished every minute of this video... Such craftsmanship... WOW... I want to go to one of these one of these day... I wished I still had my 1959 Spartan... 41' she was so perfect when I got her, I didn't have to do anything.
Exactly. That's what I like about them. The cars of yesteryear are the same way. More stylish than the cookie cutter vehicles of today. I can't tell one car from another.
Thank you for the nice tour. And thanks very much for the tutorial on gimp, as well as that regarding a capricious cover-up when the interior has been painted over. I'd exercise extreme caution, or even better to forego the sanding any vintage floor tiles or linoleum type floor coverings. The reason is that many, if not all, contained asbestos. Asbestos turns up in many unexpected places and products, and particularly so in vintage things having been built or made prior to regulations of asbestos. Bear in mind that asbestos wasn't outlawed until about 1972.
Nice collection of vintage trailers in this video. I see all the nice paint jobs and was wondering, how do we find out what colors were on our trailer. I have a trailblazer that I want to restore. Also, what kind of paint to use, and where to get it, many thanks
*I wonder if my '59 "Comet" still exists, and if it's still as 'pretty' as it was when I sold it in Houston in 1980* *I had it painted 'Bear Brown' & 'Navajo White' with a rear window-box A/C installed w/a custom frame welded to the trailer's under-frame, and it still had all original appliances in it, w/a 'slider-door' wet-bath!* *Forty-years is a lifetime ago, and I still miss it*
Go to the Vintage Trailer Talk Forum and someone there can most likely help you out. Yes I have heard of them. Don't know much about them though. Never seen one up close. vintagetrailertalk.freeforums.net/
Gimp is the round plastic you see where the ceiling meets the wall. When the trailer was made they put it in there to finish off the seam and prevent squeaks.
That's so cool. I'd like to get me a smaller trailer so I can come to those. I guess I could bring a fishing pole so I can catch me a husband so I wouldn't be as worried about a breakdown or if something went wrong hahha
Ask to see photos of the build or it didn't happen properly. Restored means they replaced all of the rotted wood and you can't do that without removing the metal skin. Pictures or it's just lipstick on a pig. Lots of people are selling rolling pieces of rotted junk all painted and puttied up. That will be a dangerous trailer on the road. Buyer beware.
mobiltec Thank you so much your opinion and knowledge on this subject are invaluable 😊 I would be interested in what you think of the listing. Its ebay seller azprettythings goggle will take you straight to listing. 1962 Frolic bidding right now is at $9300. I really just like the room and layout & feel of the vintage trailers they are simply wonderful. We have enjoyed learning from your videos.
@@leslieweiser5455 I don't even have to look. The very first rule that I teach in my class is NEVER buy a trailer that you can not go physically look at first. And take an ice pick with you so you can poke at the framing underneath looking for rot. So Ebay is pretty much out of the question of you can't go look at it and touch it first. You should watch my video "The Successful Failure" about a poor woman who bought a trailer off of ebay without going to look at it first. Craig's List is your best bet. Local areas you can get to.
@@mobiltec Awwww Thank YOU so much... I'm refurbishing a 1972 Aristocrat Travel Trailer... I need this.. Where can I buy a Awning Rail? Thank you for your help.
@@judichristopher4604 My website has a lot of great links on it to people who supply much of our needs. Welcome to the biggest scavenger hunt of your life. Do a search for RV awning rail to find it in your area and you won't have to pay shipping.
@@mobiltec Ohhhhh Thank you so much... I have a 1985 Pace Arrow Class A I'm redoing too... This will be my 25th and 26th RV I have redone... BUT... This will be the first time I paint with Pearl paints and Metal Flake.... and do Glitter in the bottom of the shower/bath tubs. and epoxy countertops... I'm 64 years old, and I'm going BLING one of these puppies out... So excited... I hand paint the outside, yes it takes time, but I paint it as if it was a boat. This will be my first time to do fiberglass on the Class A... The tiny 1972 Aristocrat is metal... that is easy to hand paint.. Thank you for your help...
@@572318a Mercury is a great trailer. A few of my students have built them. I have video of one that one of my students built here. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mpYpLDlxIXg.html
@@572318a No I don't show anything about how the appliances work. Liability reasons. Check with your local gas man for the stove. If the metal fridge doesn't work you should check with a refrigerator guy. Sometimes they can be repaired...
@@mobiltec you can barely see it in the thumbnail and in the video a good shot is at 10:09 when this lady walks towards you, it's on the right...silver
@@randomvintagefilm273 Oh yes I see it now. I never noticed it before because of the lady walking towards me. I fell in love with her at first sight and never saw her again.
I just bought a 1963 beemer trailer and I’m looking for information on it and haven’t been able to fond anything. Could you point me in a direction to find something?
Canned Ham is the name given to trailers of the late 40s, all of the 50s and early 60s that are shaped somewhat like a CANNED HAM. Like in my logo. Just means the profile is rounded really. Not square looking like the TOASTER models we have today.
Many people are into "patina" for paint jobs these days. I don't get it but then again I don't understand a lot of things today. Also many people bring their vintage trailers to rallies before they are completed. I've done that many times. But thanks for watching.
This is the way PUBLIC rallies work. On Saturday you open your trailer up to the public so that they may view and inspect your trailer. That's also what I DON'T like about public rallies which are really SHOWS. Not rallies. As far as BARGING IN and DISTURBING A MEAL is concerned that is not supposed to happen during the PUBLIC part of said SHOW... not rally a rally...
Love the chicken! At about 9 minutes in, please surreptitiously abscond with that heater, take it out into a field and shoot it! There are certain things that start out as bad ideas and only get worse with age. I worry, it would take just one old timer attempting to fire one up in a crowd like this to spell disaster.
interesting film and subject but terrible filming.wasted footage on dogs and people, more time needed on the vans .got sick trying to keep up with the camera
I enjoyed everything about your video. I thought you were exceptionally polite and kind with folks. I kinda enjoy the casual filming, dogs, grammas , kids. The sterile videos that get a million views don't appeal to me much. I have never been afraid of a little camera shake. Keep up the good work!
