Thanks for this. My mum was born in Newport and my grandparents lived there when I was a child so we often used to visit. I always enjoyed going to Newport and still have a soft spot for the place.

Great to see old Newport, before moving to Swansea i lived in the ridgeway (1973-1977) and went to Glasllwch Primary School. Newport was a fantastic place to grow up in, i understand like me you have an interest in urban exploring? so can i pick your brains about a couple of old Newport structures you may know?. As a lad in the 70s my friends and i used to visit a run-down abandoned mansion, i recall it to be under the ridgeway green slope. It had an open pool full of green slime and it gave me nightmares!. (too much dr who!) also, a little further on down the ridgeway in the lanes there used to be a creepy isolation hospital. What has become of stow hill baths, its a crying shame about the baths i learned to swim in maindee pool. Kind regards.
Hi, do you know where the image at 2.35 of Market Arcade is from or what sort of year it was taken and do you have any other pictures of the arcade through the years? It's proving very difficult to find anything on it! This is a great video all round. I really enjoyed it!
Thank you very much for enjoying the video. I thought there was a clear picture of the newport arcade in the video but i can't find it myself, perhaps I've overlooked it. If you tap in newport past and present and go to images or tap in newport arcade and click images it brings up and old range of pictures of the arcade. Think the picture that you saw at 2.35 was a picture of King George when he visited in 1937. I hope this helps. Once again, thank you for watching. Any more questions please feel free to ask, I'm always happy to help.
It really does, thank you. We're looking to get Market Arcade renovated at the moment, much like Newport arcade was a few years back. I did see the picture of Newport Arcade and we can find a load of those in different places online, but trying to find anything of Market Arcade is proving extremely difficult!
