24 hours in the life of a welsh town. /// NEW: the street 21 years on is on card link given in video you might want to see this short fiction film shot there that year 1993 too • Cashflow (fiction)
Spark _ mostly Welsh people. There was a period in the late 00’s where there was quite a large influx of Polish people... but that quelled. Many people have moved away from Newport because of the economy, but it’s still largely welsh, despite what the older generation might tell you
Better days gone by! Never thought I'd be 50 yrs old and sitting in saudi arabia watching a video of newport 🤣. Such a shame, poor old port, time are a changing hey. Its a shadow of its former self 😔
I was born and raised in Newport... Haven't been there for nearly 7 years, going back next week, and everyone's been saying it's a ghost town and not like I left it... It hurts :( Big big shame.
@@jamesdavies4378 Yes indeed! Since this comment I've been back home several times and due to go again in a couple of weeks. As pretty as Friar's Walk looks I miss the old town tbh. Everything seems blocked off and lonely. Especially where the old entrance to the in-shops is opposite the leisure centre. Absolute ghost town.
I've been returning regularly for many years visiting my folks. It's given a steady portrayal of the decline of the place. I don't even venture into town any more unless I have to, it's just a glum place. The missus description after her first visit about 8 years ago: "It's on its arse a bit isn't it. Everything looks so down and out."
Left Newport, 1978,,,lived down Pill.. 'fond' memories. A close community of people. All our family have moved now. I was Rodney Parade when Newport beat the All Blacks ! 14 years old,,Had to leave right after the game to get down to Browns Newspaper shop to deliver the ARGUS !!
Wow amazing to see Newport a busy place the city is so very different now with so many of the shops pubs gone worked in Newport over 30 years just good to see how once how busy it was so many years ago 🏴
Great video. I used to love going to Town but I hate it now. Council have done there best to kill the place, it might look nice now but the atmosphere has gone. Hate the place.
thanks for the comment. Unfortunately, I had only one day to shoot this and not much time to think things through.. However, we shot a short fiction film called CASHFLOW later on that was sett around Newport town too and that has some shops that may or may not exist anymore. It is on my channel in my Newport Film School playlist if you want to watch it. cheers.
Hi barry and everyone I ve returned to Newport this month and had a walk in town with a little camera. the video is called 'The street 20 years on (Newport; gwent)' and is on-line on this LAsuper8 channel. hope you like it.
No need for the racism. I'm a Muslim, I was born and raised in Newport, and surprise surprise I'm actually Welsh aswell believe it or not!! My name's MORGAN!! My grandfathers were born in Newport too. I'm sorry that my religion has, according to you ''filthied'' your town, which is also my town if you don't mind. Religion doesn't count. You may as well say it's full of Christians or Jehovahs!! You don't see me complaining! Everyone has a right to live for goodness sake.
newportdragon19mufc always thought the Muslim community integrated quite effortlessly with everyone else in Newport. I was born in ‘95 and particularly the Pakistani community was always just part and parcel of being in Newport... Don’t let a few racist fucktards speak for the majority
4:08 judging by this poster, this movie came out 1992, So I would imagine this video is from mid/late 1992 as the movie was released in August of that year.
yes please, go ahead.post your video as a video response when you re done. I loved living in this town as a student but i haven't been back for years. Newport was gritty with a cerrtain je ne sais quoi charm.
This is brilliant, I only wish you had walked around focusing more on the buildings and pubs because most have now gone! :( The curly haired guy in glasses was my old history teacher, ant head!! Lol
Hey there. Working on my final major project in college all to do with Newport Town and it’s history, it will be exhibited on the 16th of June at the riverfront accompanied by both audio I have recorded myself, and second-hand audio from other people on RU-vid. I loved the clips of people saying where they’re going as it offers a lovely glimpse into the town back then, would I be allowed to use the audio from this video in my final piece? Thank you in advance :)
I was from Newport. I went back after 10 years to visit. After another 10 years I went back again. Just to visit. All the people from school still live their mainly. So does my mum.
The parochialism never leaves them. Born there, die there, like its a badge of honour. 199 other countries yo live in, nope, staying in the rain. I got out at 22.
@@meisterlymanu5214 I agree hardly anyone left All my school friends from St Julians still go out drinking together - one girl Christine went to Italy... everyone else lives the same lives Queensland is fantastic 🙋♀️🙏🤗
It was wimpy, and a bank before that. If you are talking about the one on the corner, used to have to toilets underground just outside it. There were about 4 wimpy in newport at one point, and a great British burger. Wimpy half pounder, ooosh.
It's to be a city of culture and will need a tune, sang by a crackpot. How about "Twelve blokes for every girl".You know, a take on the old beach boy's number?
