So Creative Assembly posted the map for Total War Pharaoh's coming update and it is MASSIVE, double the size of the old one including Troy, Greece and Mesopotamia. Let's discuss! Feels like this might be the Immortal Empires scale map for the Bronze Age.

If you look at the region borders on the sea-lane map you can see that the original areas haven’t been downscaled. It’s purely additive.

The Bronze Age Collapse is probably my favorite part of our history so this is super exciting. And I might be one of the few here but I really hope they keep it somewhat based in reality. We have an amazing fantasy Total War game already, lets keep this one more grounded

i think the only reason its underrated because the bulk of westerns dont feel concerned by it . like reason medieval is most popular is because they can play with their Polands , Russias , france , England , vikings . they are represented . but this era pretty much only represent middle easterns and the greeks who werent even that european especially when we realise that minoans for example were more of middle eastern , trojans too , lydians aswell . in fact the only to represent the europeans truly in this era are the sea peoples. so peoples dont feel interested even though its more epic and chaotic than the crusades by a long shot

Sorry, but I have no idea why you or anyone else expected a "historical" TW game from Troy, the conflict that exists entirely in mythology and has no basis in reality other than some archeological findings that may vaguely point to a war in the area at around the time the Illiad is describing. Same goes for Three Kingdoms, which is also purely mythology and not at all rooted in history.

@@Shredow2 Bro, Three Kingdoms is 100% rooted in history. The book, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, is the one that made it less historical but the fact of the matter is that most of those historical figures and Wei, Wu + Shu all actually existed.

This is exactly what I wanted from a Bronze Age Total War. And there is still room for more! Medians, Elam and Indus River Valley Civilization on the East, Kerma (basically Kush) on the South, Minoans on Crete (if they actually want to put them in the game) and Thracians in, well, Thrace

Medians, Indus River Valley Civ, and Minoans would be a-historical. Kerma is in the south of the map already. Elam also looks its going to be in the map expansion (at least part of it), its the realm called Haltamti.

i feel this update shouldnt be free its unfair for them they are probably taking huge losses now making these things for free . i never wanted them to refund me nearly 50 dollars i was fine if they kept it under condition they make it better but thats my opinion . i wish it was at least 10 dollars just so i dont feel the guilt . we dont want Sega to do them like they did to company of heroes they do deserve some gains too

I am soooooooo happy! Personally, I wish the Hedjaz and Punt (Memnon's Ethiopia) were added, but honestly I'm just glad we're getting a little of Elam along with the Zagros mountains that surround Mesopotamia's east and north so we can play as the Aramaeans that were Mesopotamia's equivalent of the Sea People's! It's nice to see a little more of Libya was added along the coast!

I wonder if they're using lessons learned from this map expansion for Pharaoh to experiment with what is possible and possible hidden pitfalls in case they want to try and expand the Immortal Empires map. Using Pharaoh as a testing ground for implementation and roll out strategies with it's smaller player base before trying a larger scale rollout on their premium product may signal possible things to come, or they're trying to rehabilitate Pharaoh to being a break even venture, or both!

Hearing about this update completely changed my opinion on this game. I got it and opened it up to get familiar and...you guys, it's a gorgeous game. A LOT is different from TWWH3, but I like a lot of the UI things they do in it. Really feels like a great product. I'm looking forward to playing and learning about it :)

Im happy with this update. My brother koves this time period amd ancient Egypt as a whole. He and I have been playing and the game is beautiful and runs well! Definitely give the game a go if you like the time period, especially with the upcoming update.

This has gained my attention as I definitely prefer Historical Total War to Fantasy ones. As good as Warhammer is, I do still dip back into historical titles when I miss them. DEI Rome especially with the different fighting styles of various factions always pulls me back in.

This expansion has made me actually consider the game *on sale* If they were to add fantasy elements to ANOTHER Historical title, It'll basically kill the series for me as a whole. Because it makes me feel like when, if, Med 3 comes out, people will go "OKAY BUT WHERE'S THE DRAGONS GUYS" No, I'm sorry, but with all due respect, fuck off. I expected it would be the Immortal Empires deal with Pharaoh and I got Troy on Epic for free. I was interested in the game, especially after the Sea Peoples expansion, but wanted to buy it on the same platform I have Troy on - and it still isn't there. Now I am quite confused. They have so many players there - why not put Pharaoh in the same store where they made a promotion for the previous Bronze Age game? I would like to buy Pharaoh, but only once. They say that we don't need Troy for the map expansion, but I am still not so sure about the factions/lords. And there is still no Pharaoh on Epic Game Store - at least in my region.

The situation with it not being purchasable on Epic Game Store (at least in my region) makes it tricky. Patch might be free or not - if I don't own the game it has no impact on me.

Ild love “Stone Age total war” on one big Europe, North Africa, Arabia map. Then “Bronze Age total war” but same big map. Then “Iron Age total war” same map Then “medieval total war” same map Then “renaissance total war” same map Then maybe “1700 total war” then “1800 total war” then “WW1 total war” then “WW2 total war” all with the same map, updated for new cities in said era!

I was completely ok with passing on Pharoah (as i did with Troy) but think this would be enough to pursued me to buy. I just want variety and options. Small maps and limited number of factions let alone faction diversity is just a bit too dull. Absolutely I've been spoiled by Warhammer but even Rome 2 having Greeks, Romans, Gaul's etc just gives you variety and options.

@@resileaf9501 I've no doubt you're right. But from what I saw of it at release there wasn't enough for me to justify buying it. I've got a pretty basic level of history, show me a picture of a Germanic tribesman and a Roman legionnaire and I could tell you which one is which. Show me pictures of 2x spearmen from different parts of Egypt and I wouldn't have a clue. 😄 I'm not saying Pharoah is a bad game because of this, and nothing against the folks enjoying pharaoh since release, this is just the reason it didn't appeal to me.

@@SqueakyBe Sure, I might have trouble telling you what the difference is between a unit from Upper and Lower Egypt, but put some distance and you'll quickly find different unit types. Egyptian native units look nothing like Libyan or Kushite tribal warriors. And that's not even counting that every faction leader has different factional units as well. Where Tausret has high quality chariots and infantry units, Seti has low-quality but numerous chaff infantry and Amenmesse has powerful and long-ranged archers.

@@SqueakyBe Also, of course if you compare units that are close by geographically you're going to see less differences than units from far away. You bring up a German tribesman to a Roman soldier. But how about comparing Gallic tribesmen to German ones? Take the Arverni and Suebi elite units, the Oathsworn and Swordmasters, and compare them to each other. They are extremely similar to each other, the most obvious difference the shape of their shields, but otherwise they could easily be mistaken for one another. If you're going to compare a tribal warrior from Germania to a Roman legionnaire for Rome, you should compare an Egyptian spearman to a Hittite warrior.

Honestly, I don't know. I think it is a great improvement.....but I fear that it is basically flogging a dead horse. Troy and Pharaoh have been off a horrible start (although not all of that was its fault) and therefore it has it reputation against it. Just as important, it has very little to extend the life of the game since the modding community has hardly touched the game thusfar. That said, there have been questionable decisions made about certain key concepts in the game for example the fast paced combat (Admittedly I am far more fond of the slower, more grinding confrontations of the earlier games [or mods which made it even slower] so I admit I might be somewhat biased. ) It is is most definitely an improvement though, a brilliant improvement even (and this addition would have removed a lot of critique if it had been added earlier) but it will need a lot more improvements and even then I don't know if there can come enough improvements for the community to give it another chance. It still doesn't address its biggest flaw, namely that it might try to be a historical total war but it still feels like a fantasy total war. That said, it is a start and it most definitely has just extended its life....but I can't say that it will be enough to give it a second wind although I hope it will.

I have Troy on epic i get it for free, i didn like it, so now i must buy it on steam if i decide to buy pharaon to have full map 😢. Again CA got their win win game.

You'll have access to the map update, you don't need TROY to have the rest of map and TROY factions added to it.

@@liito4074 right now we don't know which factions will be added to Pharaoh update. But don't expect Amazons for example, the Illiad was mostly a fantastic vision of the Trojan War so don't expect characthers like Hector or Achilles.

Oversized chariots the size of a bus is a major no from me. The platform should be much smaller and the crew should act in harmony as a single entity instead of being individuals.
