@@SuperMarioAaron64 Actually, Jim was going to form a partnership with Disney regardless (although with Jim being alive at the time, I feel he would've had more creative control, with Disney needing his approval before they did anything with the Muppets.) In fact, Disney planned a "Muppets Takeover" event where for a whole year, the Muppets were to take over Disneyland and make it "MuppetLand" But Jim's death led to this publicity stunt being cancelled, and the Disney/Mupper merger being scrapped until Disney bought the Muppets years later.
The fact that Jim Henson only lived to be 53 baffles me. He did things that anyone else would’ve accomplished in twice his lifetime. I believe he is worthy of the Medal of Freedom for his contributions to America and entertainment
Jim Henson died 32 years ago today. He was only 53 years old. Imagine how different the world would be if he had kept making movies, TV shows, books and toys until he was 80 years old.
I remember his death and I still remember, and now Luis and bob and carol skinny have arrived at the pearly gates as well, its sad but its is the pattern of life to move on.@@maitefurtado2221
I was 10 when Henson died. I didn’t fully grasp the magnitude of his loss until I became a dad myself years later. There’s simply no one else like him. Nobody has ever been able to replace him…and never will. Thank you Jim for making my childhood so special. I was one of the lucky ones to experience his brilliance at its pinnacle.
The day that Jim Henson died my husband and I wept all day long. We were and still are huge Muppets fans. A world without Muppets is a world I don’t want to live in.
Pneumonia really is no joke, I had it for the very first time this past fall and I’m 31. At first they thought I just had bronchitis, but discovered it was actually pneumonia while listening to my chest. Luckily it was still in the very early stages so it was more or less like walking pneumonia I had, but I still felt really sick with it. So glad I got on the antibiotic when I did, felt a lot better within a day or two. Anytime myself or a loved one of mine gets sick like this, I always think of Jim Henson’s story which encourages me to seek medical care right away. Maybe Henson’s story was left as a little reminder to all of us to please remember to take care of ourselves when we fall ill, or it can have tragic consequences unfortunately. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I wasn't born yet at the time. But if I was around in 1990, I would've broken down in tears hearing that Jim Henson died. I am truly a Muppet fan since my childhood. I couldn't believe he passed away way too soon. RIP Mr. Jim Henson
OMG I was not born either!! I was born in 2007!! I'm visually impaired, and I would have broken down myself!! I'm a true fan too, and just hearing all this makes me deeply cry!! :(
It was a loss. Emmet otters jug band had me hooked when I was a kid. I'm 50 now and the kid comes out in me everytime I see Muppets. RIP. Mr. Henson. Thank you
I can't lie, i was getting through it pretty well until the interview with those kids at the end. That got some tears, I can't lie. He had an undeniable positive impact on all of pop-culture, and he's still missed 3 decades later, even by people like me who weren't even born during his life.
Reelz's Autopsy should do an episode on this! The sad irony is that Disney World special aired the day he died! Also Jim Henson dead, John Tesh still alive!
Wrong stuff here! Corrects errors: 1; The reporter are talking about Jim’s wife, but footage of Jim’s daugther is shown (at 1:43). And 2; The reporter mentions Miss Piggy as a Muppet cast of Sesame Street (at 2:46). That’s wrong, Miss Piggy was never on Sesame Street. That was The Muppet Show.
@@Mooms Correct, he was only the creator of the Muppet characters of Sesame Street, but Sesame Street itself was created by Joan Ganz Cooney and Lloyd Morrisett
I remember watching the 2011 Muppets movie in theaters and to this day I still remember how great it was. His vision lives on forever. His innocence and fantasy lives on in all of us. Rest in peace forever legend. The world misses you.
I didn't realize he made the "live" action Ninja Turtles also. He had the Muppets, Sesame Street, Labyrinth, the original Star Wars trilogy and several other projects. If only he had gotten to the hospital a day earlier. He might still be making magic
By 1990, before he died, had completed production on the television special The Muppets at Walt Disney World and the Disney-MGM Studios attraction Muppet*Vision 3D and he was developing film ideas and a television series entitled Muppet High.
I remember hearing this and being very upset. If it weren't for him, i would probably still be in kindergarten. He left behind a legacy that is quite u ique. And interesting. We share the same birthday. I loved sesame Street and the muppets. He will be remembered.
Why wouldn't he go to the hospital. It's sad that he would have lived if he was treated just a couple of hours earlier. I read that he suggested to his wife that he might be dying, but he did not want to take time off from his schedule to visit a hospital.
Jim unfortunately was a severe workaholic, a trait that many of his closest friends always were cautious of. Jim never looked like he took a break, even when he went on vacation. Jim always had his mind around him that he never once thought to think about himself. Wasn't the first time Jim felt heavily fatigued so he assume it was just another one of those. It really sad that Jim never once thought to put his own health first over his creative imagination but that usually is the consequence of many workaholics who have a vision.
@@tavvyprods1275 Steve was chosen to play Kermit by Jim’s family and then once Disney bought the rights to the Muppets they let him go in 2021 and that was wild to me.
I feel 50 is the bare minimum to have lived a full life. Henson achieved far more than most will accomplish in however long the might live. We had him for a good stretch of time, and Humanity is proven worthy with the likes of he.
As much as it sucks that Jim had to die so young, I think it stings even harder that these reports associated him predominantly with Sesame Street, knowing that he spent the last 20 years of his life trying to shake off the reputation as a children’s performer that the show gave him. Even when Kermit gets mentioned in them, it’s usually in some form of context regarding Sesame Street. And I like Sesame Street, don’t get me wrong, I respect the hell out of it. But it’s horrible to me that all his efforts that included The Muppet Show, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, etc became all for nothing in the long run - with a lot of the media continuing to hyperfocus on him supposedly being just “The Sesame Street guy” while paying only the briefest of lip service to literally anything else
I'm am horrified about hearing of the doctor who just gave him aspirin, and told him there was nothing to worry about, and to go about his life. If he went to a different doctor, he might've been saved.
If there were three people I could make get a full fulfilling life and not taken from us so soon, I'd choose George Carlin, Robin Williams and Jim Henson.
Shigeo Kageyama I’m not trying to be rude I’m giving out a fact, can you imagine if he never went through that Christian Science and how many more here’s he would of lived
In this video, there is a news report that states he had gone to a doctor a week prior to his death. The doctor did not find anything concerning. It also states he had been healthy prior to that. There is another report in this video that address the Christian Science rumor. I have not followed the story so I'm sure more information has come to light over the past 30 years that may dispute that but, in the end, all we know for sure is a creative talent left too soon.
dvdmc7 I heard people say due to his Christin Science he didn’t want to seek help, but when it was to late he decided to go to the doctors. The doctors couldn’t do anything to help it was too late, the pneumonia toxins spread through his body I believe. I’m not 100% sure if that’s right, but that’s what I’ve seen people saying.
Well, I'm sure you know many people who are reluctant to go to the doctor even when they're not feeling well. Men especially are raised in a belief that they should ignore pain which is why many more men die from cancer than women. Jim Henson never practised Christian Science even though his parents were of this faith. Perhaps he though he will recover from it himself. So many people died this year believing the same thing. Also, the incompetent GP cannot be ignored, not recognising the flu.
