I did this, but when i finally downloaded the game into my external drive, the electronic arts folder with Mods, Tray, Saves folders in it kept downloading into my c drive. I don't understand how to make it stay in the external drive. What should i do? help T.T

Thank you! I did a couple things different. I copied my EA Folder to my External HD and did not delete the EA Folder from my C Drive. The reason was due to the Desktop application not launching without connection to the C Drive. When I downloaded the game directly to my External HD (per your instruction) it worked! To test, I disconnected my External HD Drive and tried to launch game but it refused due to game being disconnected. I did however start from scratch. I deleted Sims last summer after the broken high school pack release but wanted to give it a try again and it works. THANK YOU GIRLY!

literally and she’s not being helpful at all when replying to comments and talking about booking with her. i just want to play sims with no lag and everything to be smooth. no one has a solid answer to moving mods or EA to a flash drive and it’s irritating.

For anyone who still needs help all you have to do is delete the EA app then repair it. Before you do it make sure you already changed the folder you want your sims to download in to the external hard drive. Then when you repair the EA app your sims file should still be there once you log in you’ll just have to redownload. And all of you add ons will too. Hope this helps! Idk about CC and Mods tho.

this app is horrible; and it is massively inferior to origin. It can't even detect games on the drive like origin could. Also disk usage is so bad it sounds like dres are getting thrashed; so might be time to walk away from EA.

hello! just wanted to come on here and say thanks and also ask a lil question. it seems like a lot of people had issues doing these steps but it worked right away for me. i already had the ea app so all i did was change the install location to my external drive and it worked without any issues. it did uninstall my game but as soon as i started downloading it, it downloaded right into the external drive! my question now is; do i need to move my mods and cc to the external drive too or can i do the link junction thing? (still dont really know how that works lol)

So I followed most of the steps that you did. There was some little technicalities that were a bit different on my end, so I had to figure some stuff out on my own. The good news is that I was able to transfer the EA App + Sims onto my D Drive. The bad news is, no matter what I do, it is not picking up any of my saves + mods that I have copied and pasted over into the folders on the D drive... even stuff I made on the gallery is gone :/

So it didn’t work for me either ! I figured out that I was doing the tiniest thing wrong. When you’re in your c drive, instead of left clicking(regular click) and dragging it to your external drive, you need to right click it, so it will pop up an option to either move it or copy it, you need to move it, and then after I did that it automatically changed to my external drive in the EA app and now all my game add ons download to my sims in my external drive. Hope that helps !

It lets me customize the location where to download then still tries to download on my C drive and it doesnt have enough space so then it wont download. Help!

Hi kelsey stroud, Thanks for taking the time out to watch my video! If your mods are not showing up or when you open your game it creates a new folder, it's because they are not linked correctly. Keep in mind, The Sims 4 Game can only read from your C: Drive. You you would have to add mods/cc to your external hard drive and then link them to your C: Drive using the Link Shell extension. Here's the link for the link shell extension download: schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshellext/linkshellextension.html. Most people use this method when they are running out of storage space on their PC but they want to download more mods/cc. This method allows you to do so. Let me know if this helps!! 😊

I followed the steps and EA still is downloaded to my C drive but the sims 4 downloads onto my D drive and when i open sims I dont get a electronic arts folder but my mods work because they are on my C drive and are still taking up space

I followed the steps exactly as you said and I made sure the EA app was going to download into my external hard drive in the Electronic Arts folder but when it downloaded it’s going into my Program Files in my C drive when I said for it to go into the Hard Drive. I’ve uninstalled and tried again 3 times but it’s doing the same thing every time. I’m not sure what I’m going wrong?

Everytime i try to download my sims 4 to my hard drive it stays on the "preparing calculating time" screen I've done everything the site has told me to do and it still won't change. I'm to the point where I'm frustrated because I spent money on this game.

@@latenightcalIs Saves & CC/Mods can only be read from the C: drive on Windows for Sims 4. The junction link allows you to move your folders and make a link to trick your computer into believing that your folders are still there. 🙄 Your mods folder will always be in the EA folder.

I am in need of some help! I have had several errors the first one the game was already running after putting mods back in. I have repaired my game, logged off one drive, uninstalled all sims 4 and reinstalled it and I am now getting the first error stating the game is already running. It is not in the task manager. I am in need of help. When you go to “Properties” on the EA app and it said C:/ Program Files(x86) AFTER I copy paste all my games + add on to my external drive. This is where you lose me at…. I don’t have an option to find the correct folder it never pops up or give the message like you said… I don’t have ANY STORAGE on my computer so it won’t let me download the sims or anything. im in the same predicament here. Ive tried it the way everyone else has said to do it but it only downloads my basegame and not my dlc bc its accessed through steam. ive tried for the last week to find someone who has a tut on how to do it with steam so that it works with steam AND ea so i can use my mods but havent been able to. i think we're just kinda screwed lol

Hi THaefs Makeup, Thanks for taking the time out to watch my video! Yes, you can download the game directly to your external hard drive. Keep in mind, The Sims 4 Game can only read mods/cc from your C: Drive. You you would still have to add mods/cc to your external hard drive and then link them to your C: Drive using the Link Shell extension. Here's the link for the link shell extension download: schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshellext/linkshellextension.html. * FYI: If you decided to download your game directly to the external hard drive you will need to be plugged in every time you decide to play. If you want to unplug it, just be sure you exit your game first. Most people use this method when they are running out of storage space on their PC but they want to download more mods/cc. Hi! Just watched and completed all steps until the bit where it doesn’t allow you to change the file save location, in regards to needing to update the base game, does the same steps apply, cause nothing is working for me, I don’t have enough space on my C drive to update the game and can’t change the download location to my Harddrive 😭😅

If you have any mods/cc! And then once you’ve followed the video then just move the mods folder back into the sims 4 folder (if you took it out)! Hope this helps! :)

Hi! I'm not sure what I did wrong...I've set up the folders for the ea app and named them thusly inside my external hard drive. I downloaded the ea app, customized it to my external drive as you said. However, when I go to open my c drive, program files...there is an Electronic Arts folder but it's full. It has all the files followed by EA desktop folders and 325mb worth files pertaining to ea...not sure what else to do...I've tried twice. It's not installing on the external drive even though i've changed it to do that in the specific created folders that you said. It automatically installs inside my program files while my created folders remain empty....help please?

When you put the apps and game over on your external drive, does it still generate a folder in the C drive documents? Do we do the hard shell link from there? When I tried to do the junction link, it generated a new game folder separate from the link folder that loaded up a blank-ish copy of it. It wasn't linked and it ate up some space. Not as much but is that normal? Because then I had 2 EA folders in my c drive. And it didn't read the junction folder.

If your mods are not showing up or when you open your game it creates a new folder, it's because they are not linked correctly. Keep in mind, The Sims 4 Game can only read from your C: Drive. You you would have to add mods/cc to your external hard drive and then link them to your C: Drive using the Link Shell extension. Here's the link for the link shell extension download: schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshellext/linkshellextension.html. Most people use this method when they are running out of storage space on their PC but they want to download more mods/cc. This method allows you to do so. Let me know if this helps!! 😊

If you’re on windows, you have to search the ea app in the lower left corner and run the application as an administrator, happened to me for a bit
