Just got a new SSD because I have like 10 GB left on my C drive (rip) and redownloaded sims to it. Followed the tutorial and downloaded a couple of CAS mods to see really quick if it worked and it did! Working like a charm! Thank you so much for the tutorial, now I can download mods and CC to my heart's content lol

Thank you soooo much! The first time I did it wrong and it did not work, It restarted my game and none of my mods were showing up. Since I had the EA backup like you said I tried over again the second time and it all worked perfectly! I can now play sims and go crazy with cc without worrying about running out of space on my computer!

I did this and used it to move my Sims 2 CC and everything to an external harddrive, it worked perfectly! If people are doing it as you explained, they shouldn't have any issues.

@@cherrycake7739hey so I just did it. There really is no difference, our laptops will have the same options it’ll just be under “Show more options” when you left click the folders. It was a lil confusing at first but it’s the exact same way :)

YEY. After a couple attempts and tantrums it finally works!! Make sure your Mods are updated and it seems that the game couldn‘t load my Mods folder because it was deep diving in so many subfolders. I have it right onto my external hard drive (no subfolders) and it works now I AM SO HAPPY. Thank you girl :33

@@diamondkennedy2364 the “real” mods folder needs to be on your external hard drive. The junction link, as she showed in the video, is in the EA Sims 4 Subfolder (the “real” mods folder would usually sit there, but if you link it as a junction, your computer will recognize it as the “real” one - even though it’s on your external hard drive. I also had try it out a couple of times until it finally worked, but if you follow the video step by step it’ll finally work

So.. just in case anyone else had this issue.. for me I found I had waaayyy to many mods/cc 😂.. I ended up creating a new folder for those mods... Just so I will be able to copy and paste everything needed... Once I did that it was smooth sailing.. watched what to do to add them back in the game and boom good... I did run into the problem with it being a little slow taking a little time but once it gets started it's all good to go!! I'm just sooo thankful and happy I didn't waste money on a 4tb hard drive 😂😂 thank you so much ❤❤❤❤

been struggling with this for hours and finally got it to work! each time I deleted the old sims 4 folders and opened the game all my mods and saves were gone and it would add a new sims 4 folder.. make sure you DELETE it from your computer entirely... i didn't think to delete mines from the RECYCLE BIN, so do that if u have the same issue with the game creating a new folder instead of using your junction one.

HATS OFF TO YOU! I'm a gaming channel and have been looking to move my mods folder as it prohibited me from actually having all of the cc that I needed downloaded. I constantly had to switch out mods because I kept running out of space on my internal hard drive. I'm going to make some Sims CAS videos, TUHDAY!!

Just a quick note: it works with symbolic link too, not only with junction. with that, it targets the external/new drive location as a pointer from the EA folder.

Ok that way works but I found a easier way. 1 The same thing back up everything 2 Right click on Documents then “Properties” 3 Click “Location” Tab 4 Click “Move” tab 5 Create a “Documents” folder on your drive that you want to move on but don’t name it as something else 6 Click “Select Folder” button then click “Yes” on the pop up message then you are set ❤

SOLVED! 1. Install Shell Link Extension. 2. Copy and Paste the Electric Arts folder from your main drive to the external drive. --> Create a Backup Copy for Electric Art ( Electric Art - Back up) 3. Copy and Paste Electric Arts onto your external drive. --> Create an Electric Art Folder 4. Delete Electric Arts from your main drive. 5. Right-click on Electric Arts on your external drive and hit " Pick Link Source". --> Right Click and hit " Pick Link Source" 6. Go back to your main drive where you want to place Electric Arts and right-click on "Drop As", then hit " Symbolic Link". --> Right Click and hit "Drop As" and click "Symbolic Link" 7. Start your game up and see if it works. Let me know if you need any help!!!!

Should I delete the files from my C-drives since everything is moved to my hard drive? Is it running off of my hard drive only? Im just a lil confused because now it’s COPY on my hard drive and a copy on my C drive. I also wanted to add more mods and stuff should I add that to my hard drive or the EA folder in my C drive?

ANSWER : Under documents, if there is no EA folder - make one. I created it , went to my External HD, right clicked my sims 4, "pick link source" then I went into the EMPTY EA folder I just created under documents on my C drive - clicked "drop as...junction" - my game is working w/ my mods. You end up taking the sims 4 out of the EA folder anyways & relacing it in your EHD so creating the folder manually will still work.

I saw some people asking if this work with Steam. The answer is yes, it does works with Steam doing the same process. This may not be the same to everyone but my game takes longer to boot up when doing this and it looks like is crashing but I gave it time and after that runs normal.

Hi so i followed everything correctly but the electronic arts folder was still on the c drive even tho i put it on my external harddrive, so i went back and deleted that one and now my game is acting like i dont have any saves or sims. Edit: I'm moving all mods, tray folder and Saves folder back over to my c drive where everything originally was and ima start over the junction part. Hopefully this works! If not I just screwed myself big time!

hi! for the most part this worked but when i open my game a good handfull of my mods arent in the game. It says either some files are mising or something to do w ea accounting not owning the files. im really confused as to why most cc work but a lot dont despite being in the mods folder,, does anyone else have this problem??

I got lost around 5:52. You say open your external hard drive where we want to save our mods folder to. But then say copy and paste to your external drive anywhere. Meaning I’m cut then pasting and I can put it outside of the sims 4 folder since that’s anywhere.?

So the way she did it in the video did not work for me however i did it the opposite way and saved my whole mods folder to an external hard drive and then went into my c drive deleted the mods out of that folder and then junctioned the mods folder from my external drive over to the mods folder on my c drive and it works all you have to do is open the mods folder on your c drive and then junction it inside for it to work you cant just create a new mods folder it has to go into the actual mods folder. Hope this helps you just helped me a ton.

So, I had to start all over again cause I accidentally yanked out my external hard drive and I corrupted my hard drive. Now that I’m starting fresh, on EA settings and downloads, I see on your screen it’s says “program files\ea games\ “ when mine is saying “electronic arts\the sims 4” but when I restore default is shows “program files\ea games”. It’s showing that setting for my c drive and not my external drive. Can you help me please.?

When you move the mods from the cc folder does it make them not work anymore? Because don’t they have to be in a certain folder to work?

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! everything works!! i recently got a external drive and was able to play the sims on that drive! Its a little laggy tho but that might be because one im playing on a surface go and two the drive isnt being directly plugged into the laptop/tablet so i bought a usb c out to usb in. im hoping it will work better once i get the converter if not another reason to invest in a new laptop🥰🫶🏽

This isn’t your fault but I’m so confused. Why can’t I just drag and drop the files to the harddrive? What does the software you showed in the beginning do?

Hii, I recently uninstalled the sims 4 and my game recognizes my mods, saves and everything else on my hard drive, it currently not working, is there a way to undo everything and start over?

My electronic arts refuse to copy to my external hard drive it saying "there is not enough space on this pc" and my external drive is new with 2TB but the moving of the Sims 4 folder as a junction to my external hard drive work but I am too scare to delete anything in risk of losing everything any suggestions??

Move them little by little to your drive and delete the one you already put on there

I made a comment, but I don't see it.....ugh.....I did all this and my mods are not showing in the game. I did double check the mods show up in the junction folder and I did make sure script mods are enabled in the game settings. I've followed all the steps. Any other suggestions? When I load the game, it creates a The Sims 4 folder in my documents on the C drive.

I have the same problem, when you move the folder to the new hard drive it's not working, maybe we should leave it on the C, i don't know if this works

Thanks! However even though my saves and mods are working, i tried downloading new mods and CC and they aren't showing up. Is there a reason for this? The rest of the game is working just fine. I swear I've tried everything 😢
